The Sega Digitizer System, a tool used by graphic designers in late 80s/early 90s. According to former Sega graphic designer @AGE43, it was attached to a NEC PC-98 with an HDD. Since the Mega Drive was based on the System 16 arcade board, the Digitizer System could be used with both hardwares. An earlier version was used to develop System 1 games (Pitfall II). At least 3 versions were made: Digitizer System I, II and III. Some of the games featured above: 1) Pitfall II (Arcade/System 1 - 1985) 2) Fantasy Zone (Arcade/System 16 - 1986) 4-6) Golden Axe II (Mega Drive - 1992) Sources: Beep! - April 1985 Arcades 7 - April 1988 Mega Force 4 - January 1992 https://twitter.com/Tonya_Plan/status/765978896768442368 http://p.twipple.jp/zegSe http://p.twipple.jp/mQpJT http://www.smspower.org/forums/15288-SegaDigitizerSystemGameDevelopmentIn1986NHKTVProgram

A career as prolific as Yukihiro Takahashi’s greatly exceeds what can be described in few words. His influence on video game music, alone, would merit a musicology thesis. His dexterous and contagiously energetic drumming set something of an impossible standard for music in 1980′s japan.
Takahashi was, himself, an occasional game music composer. His debut in the medium dates from 1987 with Ginga No Sannin, the Pax Softonica Famicom adaptation of an early Enix sci-fi RPG Chikyū Senshi Rayieza. The Battle Theme playing in the video is an arrangement of what is perhaps his most iconic and revered composition, Rydeen.
In the day we mourn his passing, I will be exploring the depths of the game’s cheerfully colorful galaxy at the beat of his legendary drum.
