I recently interviewed Rebecca Uliasz and Quran Karriem of GOVERNANCE for Vol 5, No 2 (2019) issue of the Studies in Arts & Humanities Journal (SAH). They spoke to me about their innovative transdisciplinary research and resulting collaborative process as they presently pursue PhD’s in Computational Arts at the John Hope Franklin Humanities Center PhD Lab in Digital Knowledge at Duke University, USA. 

Thank you again to the artists for giving up their time so generously to speak to me. I loved hearing about their practices and gaining their unique perspectives on the challenges that exist around practice based research, live performance and the institutional model.

Final critique today for Multi-Sensory Interactive Experience Design (I don’t make the titles!) at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, China. The BA in Digital Media Arts students created and curated their own online digital art exhibition (for which the entire content is made up of their own original digital art and design). The general theme was “media, mind and multiverses”. Students were asked to explore concepts surrounding the use of the internet: identity, virtual identity, social media and the digital age. Some excellent work was produced 🤘🏼

Delighted to announce my on-going site-specific performance-based video art project Feeling Comfortable in Unfamiliar Places, will be shown at CICA Museum, Korea in March, 2020. More to follow....

The students and I took a walk about the campus at Luxun Academy of Fine Arts this week to sketch architectural abstractions and anything else that struck our fancy. These sketches will form the basis for ideation and concept development in a design assignment they will shortly undertake.

Had a wonderful time exploring Lapua’s forests with artists from Vanha Paukku art residency. Beautiful flora and glacial deposits everywhere.

Loving some of the animated posters my students at Luxun Academy of Fine Arts have produced for the motion graphics module 👏👏👏👏👏 These are by 2nd year Digital Media student Wang Whanchen.

Final crits were held today for Digital Space Design module at Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in Dalian, China. Student groups created physical prototypes and 3D digital models for a range of branded exhibitions. The work was varied and interesting. These students work hard and are a pleasure to teach and mentor :) 

 As part of my role as Academic Fellow in Digital Media at the University of Salford, I teach in China as part of an international academic exchange. I'm here until June and will teach two more modules in Motion Graphics and Interdisciplinary Multi-Sensory Design.

I have just updated my website with the latest on my educational role with the University of Salford and its international partner in China, Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. I’m particularly proud of the amazing work my students produced! Looking forward to returning for another semester soon.....
