Uranus 2324 (2024) - an in depth overview and analysis
Tumblr media
Love is bigger than the universe and deeper than the ocean.
If you are a fan of both sci-fi and FreenBecky, this is an absolute must watch.
https://m4uhd.page/watch-movie-uranus-2324-2024-290683.html
(^ here's a link to the video, not sure if it is region locked but it works in the US, it is also supposedly available on Thai Netflix)
Now be warned, this film has a very deep plot that might not make sense if you're only taking it at face value. It requires you to think. A LOT. But I promise, it is one of the most beautiful stories you will ever experience if you take the time to fully ruminate over what it is trying to say.
So a quick synopsis
The ocean and space. Star-crossed lovers. Parallel universes. Across dimensions. Angst.
It has everything and will emotionally devastate you.
An in depth analysis:
SPOILERS BELOW
First I want to say, yes I know a lot of people seemed to dislike this movie. And sure, there were some issues in the acting (that "American" astronaut guy did not feel natural at all lmao) and the wigs in the 2004 timelines were.. a choice..
But honestly, I think the reason that some people didn't like it is because they didn't fully understand the complexity of this story.
And a lot of that is because of the way that it was all edited together. The story is very jumbled and told in a non-linear fashion going back and forth between realities in a way that could be very disorienting to people who aren't paying enough attention or don't like sci-fi themes as much and/or are simply watching it for FreenBecky. Hence why I think this is definitely a movie for those who are fans of both primarily. At minimum you should probably at least like sci-fi themes.
But at its heart, this is a story about the love between two souls who are drawn together in every version of themselves.
Every single universe felt new and real, all while being able to portray different emotions and experiences while maintaining a continuous deeply intertwined connection between these two souls who fall for each other in every single life but never get to stay together.
It is both deeply beautiful and deeply tragic.
However, it goes even deeper than that.
So let's start at the beginning.
(okay seriously now, if you haven't watched this and are still reading but don't want to be spoiled about literally the whole plot, do not read past this point, go watch the movie already smh - you have been warned)
Part 1: 2024
Tumblr media
The film starts with Kath (Becky) in New York with her mom, who we learn moved there after Kath's father passed away 15 years prior, when he was lost at sea. She goes back to Thailand to sell their old house and participate in a free diving competition.
Through flashbacks, we see that before they moved to New York, Kath was in a relationship with Lin (Freen). But through the circumstances, they were forced apart from each other's lives, unable to stay in touch.
Both are living separately in the present, following each of their dreams - Kath's being diving and going to space being Lin's.
Tumblr media
The same day that Kath is participating in the diving competition, Lin is achieving her dream of going to space on a mission to study a comet as it is passing by Earth and work on a program to help develop a food production system on the moon.
However, both of these momentous occasions in each of their lives is turned upside down when a coronal mass ejection (CME) is suddenly launched from the Sun straight towards Earth, and directly in the path of the spaceship, causing imminent danger to the astronauts aboard the spaceship who have to quickly navigate the shuttle around the moon to avoid the radiation affects from the flare.
Now, I have no idea how scientifically sound this is irl. From what I can tell, most of the research on this is theoretical so it's possibly accurate? But assuming believability, this of course is incredibly tense and breaking news.
And of course Kath sees the news coverage of this right before she is set to dive.
Imagine knowing that the person you love in spite of all the distance between you is very possibly about to die right before you enter the similar cold abyss of the ocean.
Tumblr media
The crew of the shuttle thankfully makes it around the moon in time to avoid the solar flare effects, but not without one of them getting severely injured. Additionally, some batteries were damaged and Lin has to go outside the ship to replace them so that they can get their crew member back to Earth to save his life.
Lin is able to change out one of the batteries before communications come back, warning that the comet was approaching the moon and could have effects from the CME.
The comet begins to tear apart and knocks Lin away from the ship, just before a piece snaps the tether and she begins to drift in space.
At the same time, Kath is diving and begins to feel something within her as a light grows from the depths of the ocean, sending them both spiraling into memories and creating what can only be described as a portal that bridges the two together.
Tumblr media
"The only thing that can break every rule of physics in this universe is love. Love will make two people, no matter how many light years apart, love will shorten the distance between the two hearts to keep them close, always."
As they both reach out for one another, Kath is transported back to a memory into various alternate realities before landing into an alternate version of 2004.
(enter some very interesting wigs)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(side note, they had an oversight with costuming here because the shirt Becky is wearing says 2017 on it but a calendar shows it is supposed to be 2004)
Part 2: 2004
Kath is suddenly in an alternate version of herself with Lin standing in front of her. But she's the only one who has any memories of them. On top of that, Kath's father is still alive here.
A lot of emotions occur all at the same time and this is where the movie really starts to show us what it's all about.
Lin is moving to Phuket with her family in this reality, leaving Kath with all her memories and a chance to make new memories with her father.
Kath is still endlessly drawn to Lin's old house and the memories. Somehow they find a way to reconnect when they run into one another while diving when Lin comes back to work at the diving competition that Kath planned to compete in. They begin to develop a friendship all over again in this reality.
At the same time, both Lin and her father begin to instill confidence in Kath to fight for her dreams.
She doesn't see Lin before diving at the competition which also happens to be the time that she starts to drown. And Lin is the one who saved her.
This makes them even closer and Kath returns the confidence in Lin to follow her dreams to go to space in this reality.
"When you reach Uranus, find a way to send a signal to me, telling me which planet it is."
[Enter falling in love sequence]
Except, immediately after, when they had plans to meet each other at the beach, the waves start to recede as Lin is on the beach and once again they are torn apart.
And she wakes back up in the 2024 reality, surviving from drowning and asking where Lin is.
She comes back to the next competition where they won't let her compete again after almost dying. But she knows what awaits her below the waters and she goes out on her own anyways.
"What if there's a real parallel world, and it makes me see Lin again? Whatever world you're in, I will go there. I just need to be in the world where we are together again."
Part 3: 1945
Kath is transported into an alternate historical reality during World War II in which the US never bombed Hiroshima, Japan is occupying Thailand, and New York City was nuked twice instead. Kath is an operative sent to locate allied forces in the country in this reality, and suddenly we're transported into an action movie.
Tumblr media
She gets shot and seeks help at a performance hall where surprise, Lin works there and is one of the operatives that she was sent to assist.
As Kath is dazed from being shot, the realities begin to blur in her mind again as she sees them together in what appears to be Times Square. It is here that we are made aware that she doesn't know what is a dream and what is real anymore.
When she awakes, she finds that in this reality her father is not her father and is the owner of the opera troupe and one of the rebels fighting for a free Thailand alongside Lin.
Both the Japanese and Thai forces are looking for Kath and Lin says that in order to survive she must escape with the prisoners on a boat, once again creating a reality in which it appears impossible for them to stay together.
And while only Kath knows all of the realities, she never once stops loving Lin, even in the short time they have in this reality. And Lin is drawn to her as well. An endless attraction towards one another but never able to come together for long.
Kath begs Lin to run away with her, but Lin refuses for her duty to stand up for her people.
When the Japanese army gets word of where they are, they flee, but not before her (not) father gets killed in front of her, adding even more trauma.
Kath begs Lin to leave with her again, telling her about all of the worlds she has experienced with her, loving and losing her over and over again. Even in this world, all she wants is to be with Lin. Even if this Lin doesn't know what she is talking about, she never loses her
They get attacked again while trying to escape. Lin tells Kath to go ahead, but instead she returns and helps to save Lin's life. They get vengeance by killing the commander in return and escape together, but in the process, Kath gets shot herself.
And here is the first reality in which we see Lin survives instead of Kath. And as Kath's body sinks into the ocean, we jump back to 2024 Lin who is running of of oxygen as Kath runs out of life. And they finally reach one another in space and we see that all this time, Lin was also going through the same experience, cycling through realities trying to find a Kath that they could stay together with as well. Continuously loving and losing Kath in every reality as well.
"I myself don't know in which world you are currently in, but there's never been a day that I haven't missed you."
And as Lin holds Kath in space, an older version of Lin appears and tells her to go back and live. We see a version of Lin in the future who has survived to see her dream of going to Uranus and once again seeing the comet as it was set to be vaporized.
And as Lin holds Kath and tells her to return to her body, Lin also gets saved in space. And the team is able to return to Earth.
And it is because of the older Lin that any of this is possible.
And we go back to the quote:
"The only thing that can break every rule of physics in this universe is love. Love will make two people, no matter how many light years apart, love will shorten the distance between the two hearts to keep them close, always."
As this Lin, who has spent decades in a reality without Kath, collides with the vaporizing comet, I think this is implying that this is what finally breaks the cycle.
"Most of the time, I want to end everything in this multiverse. But every time I think of Lin, it always makes me happy. And if this world can make the two of us stay together, I will wait for you."
As we see all the different realities in which Lin experienced them apart, they finally found a way to one another.
And I understand that the ending may appear very ambiguous because it's not directly spelled out or spoon fed to the viewer, but my theory is that the reality in which they finally are together is the same one that we started in. Thus breaking the cycle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And sure maybe that's just wishful thinking, but the styling and makeup of the characters matches if you pay attention. So I do believe that was the intention.
They finally found a world where they never have to be apart. And it was their own.
Anyways, if you read all this damn wtf thank you. Hope you enjoyed it. I just decided to watch this movie and it emotionally wrecked me in the best way and I hope more people find and enjoy this movie because it was way more than I was ever expecting.

So here's what happened on Reddit:
A transmasc posted about how transmascs and trans men are often invisible, how our issues are dismissed, and how resources, especially medical ones, are almost always written with non transmascs in mind. They posted this both to r/Trans and r/lgbt.
A moderator of r/Trans responded by telling them to “stop bitching.” That’s the word they used. That’s the level of respect trans men get. Transandrophobic by the way, don't call trans men bitches.
The comment was deleted, quietly, after backlash. Then the entire post was removed. When asked why, a mod responded that the post was “playing oppression olympics,” and took the time to go through and dismiss each of the original poster’s points, including saying that trans men being sexually assaulted isn’t “unique to transmascs” and therefore not an issue, and claiming that access to testosterone isn’t any more restricted than access to estrogen, which is a straight-up lie, because T is a tightly controlled substance in most places and E is not.
The original poster was banned for three days.
Then a separate mod made a post saying, “nobody asked us our side of the story,” which is wild because people absolutely did, publicly and repeatedly. Users also started reporting that they’d had supportive comments removed or had been banned after disagreeing with the mods, some of those claims are still unconfirmed, but given the general behavior, it wouldn’t be surprising.
Then r/Trans locked down entirely. No new posts. The conversation was forcibly ended.
Some people posted about it on r/FTM, many of those posts were mass-reported, automatically removed by Reddit’s automod, or quietly buried. Meanwhile, r/lgbt also removed the original post, with no explanation.
One of the r/Trans mods eventually posted an “apology,” which was really just a soft-scrubbed PR post full of noncommittal language and distancing. They said they didn’t mean to call a trans man “a bitch,” they just used it synonymously with “complaining,” and they didn’t think about the implications until later even though the first post was about microaggressions just like the mod committed. They did not apologize for anything else, not for wrongfully banning people, not for accusing a transmasc venting like any other user of playing oppression olympics, nothing at all. They said they’re on break and can’t do anything about it. They said, and I quote, “please don’t be mad at the rest of the team.” even though the rest of the team are just as culpable for not stopping their behavior.
They also added that trans men are “a welcome part of the community” and tried to point at moderation history as proof. Because apparently we should be grateful that people occasionally get banned, every so often, for implying trans men aren't oppressed at all, wow, thanks, that is like below the bare minimum, cool.
The current state of things is: r/Trans has over 600,000 members, and trans men and transmascs were silenced, banned, and told to shut up for bringing up their own oppression. And the subreddit is locked down. There’s a mass exodus happening to the new sub, r/trans4every1, but let’s be real, the damage has already been done.
Now let’s talk about what this actually means.
This is not “just more Tumblr discourse.” This isn’t some random blog saying they don’t like transmascs. This isn’t a Twitter reply guy. This isn’t a niche zine or a spicy personal take. This is a massive trans-focused subreddit with over half a million users. It's easily one of the largest public facing trans community online, maybe even the largest, I've certainly never found a bigger one myself. And the moderation team made it crystal clear: they do not want transmascs to feel safe or welcome there.
This is what transandrophobia looks like on a slightly larger internet scale. When it’s in the hands of people who get to decide who gets heard and who gets deleted.
And for anyone who’s still stuck on “well they apologized” listen: trans men are told all the time that we’re being too loud, too angry, too entitled, too manly, too feminine, too confusing, too “binary,” too "Nonbinary", too much. We’re told that we’re “oppression olympics-ing” just for talking about our lives. And now we're getting banned and locked out of the spaces that claim to represent a huge portion of online trans people.
This isn't just online drama. This is a bellwether. And if it isn’t setting off alarms in your head, it should be.
The way transandrophobia manifests in online spaces absolutely bleeds into real life, into medical gatekeeping, into poor data collection, into the erasure of sexual violence against transmascs, into advocacy groups that write us out of the picture, into educational materials that treat us like footnotes, if they include us at all.
And if you’re sitting there thinking, “well it’s not that deep,” you’re part of the problem.
We need to start being more honest about this: Transandrophobia is real, it is widespread, and it is growing. We need to stop giving people the benefit of the doubt when they’ve shown us they don’t want us in the room.
And frankly?
We need to start making TRFs [Trans Radfems & transmasc-exclusionary feminists alike] deeply uncomfortable being open about their beliefs. We need to make them afraid to be TRFs, the way they’re trying to make us afraid to exist.
The same way we don’t coddle fascists. The same way we don’t tolerate TERFs. We need to stop tiptoeing around transandrophobia.
Because this growing wave of transandrophobia is going to kill people. Full stop.
Protect trans men. Protect transmascs. Protect your siblings; all of them!

A friend of mine from around here who is Very Christian and has never had a Jewish friend before was asking me some stuff about antisemitism today, and it made me realize that the ways people talk about various types of bigotry and racism are so designed to stump people about the nature and purpose of systems of oppression. "Why do people hate the jews so much?" is such a common refrain and while there have been many books and articles written pulling apart all the important contextual and historical things that can help people understand antisemitism SPECIFICALLY, what I ended up saying to my friend was this:
"Something to understand about antisemitism is it isnt just ideological. The expulsion of jews from various countries was very often a method of "legally" seizing their wealth when the church needed money. It has been historically an incredibly convenient source of both a group of people to blame and also an easy way to just... Be able to steal from people, lmao. It has served very concrete material purposes for churches and governments throughout history. Sometimes you have to approach asking those questions from a different angle because it often isnt about the hatred so much as it is about ... Redirecting energy and attention, right, like upholding structures that benefit those in power. The hatred is convenient because it allows those in power to take actions that would not be tolerated if the group in question were not considered to be Exceptional in their inhumanity. Like the undocumented immigrants now, asking "why do they hate the immigrants so much" isnt always a productive avenue of thought because the hatred is usually just... Useful. Rather it is more helpful to ask "Who does it benefit for these people to be treated this way" -> "what do they need to make the general public believe about that group of people in order to justify this treatment". I think sometimes we are made to think hatred of jews is special and rooted in something different than other hatred... It's not. I mean all types of racism etc are unique. But it very much is about justifying actions that benefit a ruling class in all instances, imo."
And she like totally got it!!! She was like "OH I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT LIKE THAT BUT THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE THANK YOU" I am very proud of myself lol :')

you, artist online. somebody has referenced you in conversation irl by your online handle and somebody else knew who you were talking about. somebody has kept up closely with your posts for a period of time like their morning paper. somebody found a music artist because of you, thinks of you when they hear them on the radio. somebody followed you years ago and remembers you randomly even though they can't find you. somebody has screenshotted and saved your posts and sent them in discord servers. somebody has made your drawings their lockscreen, added them to their favorites folder and looked at them when they're going through some shit, has sent them to their best friend and sparked conversation in private chats. your art in particular could be the source of a keen sense of nostalgia for someone. maybe they've even printed out your images using their home printer and taped them to their bedroom wall and they look at it every day and they never even told you. isn't that scary? isn't that awesome? remember this well.
submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known so that you may turn around and see the impact you leave and the light you cast on others.

Something that I get chills about is the fact that the oldest story told made by the oldest civilization opens with "In those days, in those distant days, in those ancient nights."
This confirms that there is a civilization older than the Sumerians that we have yet to find
Some people get existential dread from this
Me? I think it's fucking awesome it shows just how much of this world we have yet to discover and that is just fascinating

THE ENTIRE WEST IS BEING PUT UP FOR SALE AND I AM BEGGING YOU TO CALL YOUR SENATORS
Tumblr media
Trump’s budget bill has many, many things in it, but buried amongst it is the MILLIONS OF ACRES OF PUBLIC LAND FOR SALE.
This is the entirety of the Arizona state forests, the entire Cascades mountain range. Swathes of pristine desert around the national parks in Utah. On the doorstep of Jackson Hole.
THIS BILL IS BIG, BUT IT CAN BE AMENDED AND ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT PASS AS IS please.
If you have ever enjoyed the wilderness, we stand to lose it all forever.
CALLING your senators - NOT JUST IN THE WEST. ALL SENATORS, is CRUCIAL.
Outdoor alliance has a great resource for reaching out.
I don’t have a huge following but please, everywhere I have ever loved, the forests I grew up playing in, the land I got married on, is all at risk and I am begging.

in a world where a prominent branch of anti-trans activism focuses on fearmongering about "parents' rights," trans rights and youth rights become inextricable.
trans kids deserve to be called the right pronouns and the right name by schools and doctor's offices, regardless of "parental consent." trans kids deserve to undergo the right puberty at the same time as their cis peers, regardless of "parental consent."
the very concept of "parents' rights" is a smokescreen that enables the abuse and dehumanization of children by adults. this is bad for cis kids, too.
