One thing that's worth pointing out about the Weird Route bathroom cutscene in ch4 is that Kris isn't even hurting the player. They may deal damage to the red soul, but that doesn't actually have any effect on us. We're watching from behind the screen, completely unharmed. Meanwhile Kris is the one who gets hurt by it. They're the one who's left at half their health.

Because the red soul isn't the one in control, it's more like a representation of the strings that we (the player) are pulling. And as we've learned in chapter 2 from Spamton, cutting a puppet's strings will only ever hurt the puppet.

Imagine what kind of week Kris is having though, like, they woke up posessed, their older brother is visiting from uni, bringing up all the pushed down feelings abt their parent's messy divorce, they find out not only is their religion's biblical apocalypse is real, but they are Jesus, AND Sans Undertale is fucking their mom
