Mumford and Sons-Wilder Mind
Mumford and Sons released their new album on May 4th and has so far done well on the charts topping at number two on iTunes.
While the “New York Times” says that they may have lost their “twang” they did not mean it in a bad way.
Mumford and Sons have chosen to use electric instruments in their music as opposed to the acoustic sound that their fans accustomed to however this was not surprising considering that at the very core they are a rock band with elements of folk and alternative.
The fans have not been left disappointed however despite the lack of banjos. The earthy harmonies still exist as well as extremely strong vocals, which they have always had.

“I’m in Love With The Coco” does not sound like a song Ed Sheeran would sing on his next album but he did a cover on it recently crossing over genres and pushing the boundaries of the industry.
When artists cover songs outside of their own genre it always creates for a interesting listen because it could have either gone horribly bad or surprisingly well.
In this instance I think the cover went well because Ed as an artist likes to change styles. He goes from acoustic love songs to rap and while the content of this song does not relate to his usual style it was a fun cover.
The themes of the song are not to hard to decipher. It’s controversial title implies that the song is about the love that O.T. Genasis has for cocaine. Some or perhaps most might consider this to be inappropriate however music pushes limits.
Ed, while perhaps not a cocaine enthusiast, thought the song was fun and wanted to put his own twist on it.

Popular Cover artist Jasmine Thompson has the most views out of any other cover for Vance Joy’s song “Riptide.” While she doesn’t change the melody much she makes the song her own by slowing it down a bit and adding her own flair. Her voice is very melancholy and soothing to listen to.
Joy took four years to write the album that this song came off of and based on its chart success it seemed to be worth it. Joy knows that the good ones take a while.

The pop hook is what catches everyone. A collision of genres Sheppard can be labeled as Indie Pop, a popular genre toping the charts these days. Sheppard started off as a brother and two sisters making music together and now consists of six people from Brisbane.
The lyrics are exciting talking about taking a plunge together, taking risks in hopes for something great to happen. “Through the curtain of a waterfall” is what the first verse ends in saying you don’t know what’s going to happen, or what lies ahead but to just rely on a feeling. The chorus says the phrase “Say Geronimo” repeatedly, a word used when doing something new or daring and taking a risk. With a positive message and repeating chorus it makes for the perfect combination of radio success.

Climbing all the way up to number one on the iTunes charts this week Andy Grammer is having massive success with his single “Honey I’m Good” off of his album Magazines or Novels which was released almost a year ago back in August of 2014.
The song is a feel good pop/ country-ish tune that literally talks about passing up the chance with someone because he is married hence the title. At first listen the song might be taken as slightly offensive but when paired when the video Grammer gets his message across. The word “Honey” is usually taken offensively, which created some hesitation at first however he’s talking about relationships, and features real couples in his video. With the whole thing being a little sappy, the song is undeniably super catchy and whether you like it or not it’s bound to get stuck in your head. With this happy beat and a catchy hook it’s no wonder the song is escalating the way it is.

Someone You Might Not Have Heard Of-Oh Wonder
Here’s someone you might not have heard of yet. Hailing from South-east London the duo Oh Wonder, consisting of member Anthony and Josephine have just begun to make a name a for themselves in the United States. Something different about these two you ask? The take this genre of electronic music and flip it on its head. Electronic music has blown up around this idea that you can dance to it. However Oh Wonder has chosen to slow it down and create these ballad-esque songs within the genre of electronic music creating a new element for their listeners and maybe something you’ve never heard of.
While they have yet to hit the mainstream, their fan base is steadily growing and to keep people interested they have chosen to release a single a month which is rarely done. People are into instant gratification these days and so the norm is to release an album in it’s entirety but one song a month allows for a total different type of appreciation. People have time to digest each song as they come. While the arguments have both favored this method and gone against it, it seems to be working just fine for them.
Each song on the album follows a similar tempo being either slow or mid-tempo, but the highlight for them is the vocals, which come across very soft. The quality is something to be noticed and allows the listener to try and take in the sometimes-strange lyrics.
Each single is released on SoundCloud and will be compiled together to create an album in September of this year. The genre, being so different, requires a particular taste however they are worth the listen.

With Taylor Swift having such a wide fan base her songs are often covered and while many go unnoticed this mash up by Louisa Wendorff has over 23 million views on Youtube. This might be because Swift herself posted the link to her social media sites including Twitter and Facebook when she came across the find. Taylor found the cover to noteworthy and for good reason. Wendorff takes two tracks Swift’s new album 1989 and mashes them up to create one completely new song, slowing it down and changing the upbeat pop beat to a slow acoustic love song that sounds great.
