You know how I know that the "algorithm" isn't some mystical, super powered evil corporate machine designed to pump you with wasteful junk and propaganda? Because all the reels I get of that "wear your most expensive clothes" meme are all of cool women wearing chain mail armors. If your feed and suggestions aren't full of good and nice things that you love, then honey, I have some news to you about your online behavior, habits and choices. I, unlike you, make good decisions in life. Except for the fact that I don't own chain mail armor. That's on me, though.

A while ago, I saw this post about some guys on reddit or something asking for recommendations for long-form scripted single host podcasts about specific subjects (that is, the entire podcast is about a certain subject in general, not that they were looking for a specific subject in particular). And all the comments were just so mean. They were all like Silicon Valley men are reinventing audio-books, lol. And I'm just like. No. They didn't. These are just guys asking for recommendations for things that absolutely do exist that are most certainly not audio-books!? There are plenty of scripted podcasts out there! Also, most video essayists these days publish their content in audio form as well! Also, lectures! So many universities release academic lectures, single or semester long, as well as special made content for the public in both video and audio forms these days. And yes, there are also non-fiction audio-books! All you had to say is there's this option and this option and if you want you can always try non-fic audio-books (or even fiction ones or fiction podcasts as well!), here are a some recommendations about so and so! That's it. That's all you had to do. Or - you could have said nothing at all! It costs nothing! And yet, every single comment was cruel and ridiculing for no reason at all. You preach kindness and patience, but when people and, god forbid, men in particular ask for your help, you choose to be mean. How could you demand them to be kind when you give them nothing to emulate?

I remember reading years ago that one post about how ancient Greeks never bothered to climb the extremely climbable Mount Olympus and just like check if the gods are there, which is hilarious but also absolutely not true. They very much did climb it, quite often even, as part of their religious pilgrimage and for other reasons, they just had no expectations to actually see the gods just chilling there, because that's not how divinity works. But that actually makes it that much funnier when considering the myth of Icarus. They knew! They had to have known that the higher you go the colder it gets! And yet... Anyway, I thought it was funny when I believed they didn't climb mountains and so didn't know what the temperature was at that height, but now I think it's even funnier somehow. I mean, decisions were made here, and I'm genuinely curious to know why...
#technically speaking a more accurate version of the myth would be that his wings froze the closer he flew to the sun#and like lost their flexibility and movement or something and so he fell#you know#like in the first iron man#a hundred percent respectful and appropriate comparison#greek myth#greek mythology#ancient greeks#icarus#icarus and the sun

Westerners not shutting up about an imaginary impending WW3 is at best giving "I don't give a shit about Middle Easterners dying if it's not about me" and at worst giving "I really want mass scale deaths around the world because I think I'm the main character and suffering is the only virtue in life because underneath my fake wokeness I am a hundred percent culturally puritanical Christian". Neither of these groups are as humanitarian as they think they are.

now say it with me: authors/artists dont owe you moral purity. an author/artist job is not to hold you by the hand & tell you exactly what is Good™ & what is Bad™. you should be able to think for yourself

found an image from the movie Painted Skin on pinterest and Immediately thought of Zuko in his Firelord era, so I drew it bcs why not and damn it fits so much jsjs
I tried to play a with a little bit of a meaning to the piece, attempting to make zuko look fierce and stuff while his reflection has more of an insecure and scared expression. Y'know, typical Zuko shit.

“Covid game me narcolepsy” no you fucking pervert it didn’t. You’re just a weirdo with a gross fetish. Covid didn’t make you suddenly want to fuck dead people. Keep that shit to yourself you gods damned weirdo
I have type 2 Narcolepsy. Studies have shown that serious viral infections can cause people to develop Narcolepsy if they are already genetically susceptible to having it. This includes covid. That is what happened to me.
You on the other hand might want to google the difference between Narcolepsy and Necrophilia….

ideal ways for me to die
1. old age, peacefully in my sleep
2. after a long and illustrious career i am at a rooftop gala hosted in my honor. i am wearing a beautiful gown, holding a glass of red wine, standing by the railing. a scorned lover approaches and, after a passionate spat, they push me over the edge of the building. the wine glass goes flying, splattering their outfit in red as a visual metaphor for the blood on their hands. as i descend my gown flies around me like two beautiful wings, a bird in flight. a photographer on the street manages to take a photo before i hit the ground and that photo wins the pulitzer. a new york times think piece is released regarding whether or not it's moral to profit off a photo of someone's death. the think piece also wins a pulitzer.
3. sex accident.

@firelxdykatara said something important in my opinion:
#i tend to feel this way about adaptations more than retellings#an adaptation is generally at least attempting to be another rendition of the same story#a retelling is generally operating on a different framework especially if something key like the era it takes place in is changed#if someone wants to do a modern retelling of romeo and juliet where they live and have a happy ending then that's like fine imo#it may 'miss the point' of the original but there are a million adaptations of the original play#including current productions of the source! so maybe someone wants to do something different with an old familiar story
I absolutely agree with this, though I will say that some adaptations are in themselves retellings, which is not a bad thing per se, it just needs to be very clearly stated. I do have a different problem with retellings though.
I believe that retellings, unlike (ideally loyal) adaptations, are basically a free play in a sandbox. You have plots, characters, themes and whatnot, and you can do whatever you want with them, and that's a-okay! They are essentially fanfiction, a love/hate letter of inspiration, jumping out of a well known starting point and creating something completely new, that could maintain or break the origin as it wishes - as long as it's intentional. It's frustrating when you can see that the author really doesn't get the point of the original story, whether through the writing itself or through stated comments. It's particularly problematic when such retellings purports themselves as a "true-er" version of the original story, or, god forbid, a feminist version (they never are).
You are writing fanfiction. Own up to it. Understand where you come from and where you're going and the difference between the two and have fun. Just don't be a dick about it.
"Modern retelling" and it's a blatant misinterpretation of the original text
