as much as i appreciate the way the "only one son per generation" curse underlines how vulnerable odysseus' family is, i'm increasingly enjoying the idea that telemachus just made that up on the spot

like he COULD have answered "well stranger, the reason i have no siblings is that my father went to war while i was still an infant and he hasn't returned" and left it at that, but i like to imagine telemachus pausing for a second like hmmm now what would be the wildest reason to be an only child... "oh, you haven't heard about our 𝕔𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖𝕕 𝕓𝕝𝕠𝕠𝕕𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕖?"

and odysseus in disguise has to blink back tears like "incredible lie. that's my boy"

Haha so uhmmm remember how I said Narinder fell first and harder? It doesn't go well for him for a while lmao.

He confessed with full confidence that they would accept him over everyone else cause of course. Why wouldn't they? Oh? They said no! Well actually, they said they're gonna pretend that they didn't hear that haha whoops. Lamb fumbled for another 200 years.

Its fiiiine this opened them both up to talk about it later and they'll test the waters soon.... In another few years. Boy gotta yearn for this lamb. It's what they deserve.

yo chat thoughts on pre-sheep extermination!lamb running away from home a lot to go hang out at old ruins that used to be places of worship towards death?

like lamb just feels drawn to these places even though they don’t know what the ruins’ purposes used to be?

or maybe they do know that these used to be shrines and altars for the one who waits, and they talk to the old statues and leave little offerings. Cookies they baked, crude drawings on parchment, a pretty flower they saw, a flower crown made from those pretty flowers. Already romanticizing and obsessed with a god they don’t even realize they are fated to become a vassal for.

Little lamb, who runs to the ruins in tears because they just don’t feel understood or seen by anyone around them. Little lamb, who sobs and rants at the feet of a broken and lichen-covered statue until they look up at the eroded face of their fate and speaks in a broken and dead voice, “I wish I was with you.”
