Clyde's eulogy
My husband was such a wonderful man. I’m not sure I can really express just how much I will miss him. Not only was he a wonderful husband, but a wonderful father, son and so much more…
Though there were so many versions of the same man, I feel in love with the version that I knew. Not only was he Le Chiffre, a world renowned banker, but he was also Clyde Brant from Denmark, who had a great love for chess and poker.
I remember the first time I saw him - I looked across the room at the casino on a Saturday night and saw this handsome man. I was never too shy to make eye contact, but when he came over and started flirting with me, I was surprised. Eventually after he introduced himself to me; we danced, we laughed and we fell in love.
Clyde was always such a gentleman – well-mannered and polite, but always quick with a witty remark. His joviality and good nature attracted me the moment he walked in the room, and I will never forget his raucous and contagious laugh.
Born and bred in Denmark, Clyde always had a passion for chess, books, and all things intellectual. I remember some of our first weekends together. He tried so hard to teach me how to play chess, but I used to get frustrated, flip the board and sulk. But he was always so patient… He never gave up on me, and I will continue on, trying to master the art of that bloody checkered board.
When we had our son, Ethan, he was delighted. Clyde was a wonderful father to him and I would watch him try and teach him to talk, sit up, and even walk. I’m so glad that Clyde got to hear his little boy say ‘dada’, even only once. Ethan much prefers ‘baba’, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to hear that without think of Clyde again.
Clyde was a hardworking and giving man. Not only was he committed to his job – working long hours that would drive me insane – he was also committed to me, and Ethan. When Clyde wasn’t at work , he would be doing everything he could to make sure that Ethan and I were happy and healthy. I wish he could have always been by my side; he bought out the best in me. He would always say, ‘You’re the strength of this family, Doe, and don’t you forget it for one second.’
He was my soul mate and my inspiration – my steadfast rock that helped me through thick and thin. Clyde supported and loved us, Ethan and I, and was always there to help navigate through life’s challenges.
Clyde may be gone, but he will always be alive in my memory, and my heart. I know he’s up there somewhere singing, “I’ll be seeing you.”
Goodbye, my dear, sweet husband.
I love you. I’ll wait for you. Come back. Come back to me.

I’m not letting this go. This is a major weakness, and I live for these.
It’s is either a Benzedrine or Salbutamol inhaler, which are both used to widen nasal and bronchial passages. Basically the branches of his lungs were permanently contracted which probably caused inflammation and shortness of breath, and would be really painful.
He doesn’t smoke, he’d be a fool to, so it’s something he was born with; or something he developed at a young age. Environmental contamination in his home town, perhaps. Do we know much about Le Chiffre’s past aside from his transgressions?
Either way, he’d have to be very careful of his surroundings at all times due to his bronchial tubes being hyper-responsive. Many people with asthma can go through long periods of time without any problems, but the slightest trigger can cause major deficiencies. Recovering from such a trigger can take from hours to days, causing him to be inactive, and vulnerable to his opposition.
His line of work is probably riddled with this triggers so, in many situations, that little asthma pump is the only thing keeping him from being hospitalised or worse. But by openly using his pump, he is consciously making himself a target of weakness, something which more often than not comes to his advantage.
Okay, I’m gonna’ stop now. But you see why this is an important factor in his character development now, right?
