Queerness and gender/sexual nonconformity are often targeted during crackdowns on lewd or obscene behavior. Your nonsexual queer art is not exempt from right wing censorship simply because it is nonsexual. To the right, deviation from cishet society is inherently sexual.

“You’re responsible for managing your own triggers” is completely true but also it’s just kind and polite to be mindful of disabled people’s needs
Like I was never demanding the internet cater to my needs. I just appreciate a trigger tag when I see them. And it’s straight up ableist to shame someone for the world’s most harmless and basic accommodation.
Once I made a 0 notes post about how warnings on tics and stims are helpful for me, a person with a tic disorder. And some asshole found it and told me they were offended by trigger warnings for tics.
And so I was like okay too bad my tics can be painful and it’s helpful to not have to be exposed to triggers randomly. (For reference tics can often be triggered by seeing someone else ticcing)
And then they told me that maybe I just shouldn’t be on the Internet.
And like if your response to a disabled person asking for accommodations is to tell them to leave… I think you’re just an asshole lmao

It’s so wildly ableist that I’m honestly shocked it came from a fellow tic haver

Wrote some more postcards today btw. Calling today too. And hopefully organizing a new meetup soon.
My key takeaways from organizing small “write your reps” meetups:
Many people are hungry for political action but feel lost and overwhelmed. Small, casual, low risk meetups give people the opportunity to start their activism journeys.
A lot of cities are desperately lacking in leftist spaces/events/meet ups. If you can host something small at your local library or park or even backyard, do it!! You’ll be making a world of difference in community members lives.
Many people use these casual leftist spaces to exchange recipes, phone numbers, book recommendations, resources, mutual aid, and share food and their life stories. This is beautiful to watch and I feel honored to facilitate spaces where connections are formed.
Getting butts in seats is vastly more important than a thousand reblogs. People who are willing to show up and physically organize are invaluable. It carries ten times more weight when I look one person in the eyes and explain my experience with food not bombs and why they should definitely join, than it does to share a post to my 20 distant tumblr mutuals.
Do postcards do much to change legislation? Not really. I’m not naive. I know it’s a very small tool in the activist toolbox.
But I’ve seen incredible value from the community we’ve formed around this small action.
So stop telling me not to bother. Stop telling me it “won’t work”. Because I’m watching it work. Just not in ways you’ve bothered to see.

By the way, see resources for other countries at the links at the bottom! This image is US centric but this is an international effort

And if you want, help us out 🧡
We’re two disabled queers seeking more stable work. And in the meantime financial support has been life changing so far!
Layoffs and reduced hours have left us pinching pennies for food and bills. And we’re in a bit of debt as we try to pay off bills for kitty medical emergencies.
$20 from 5 people would make a huge difference

Please feel free to share your reasoning for using your label in the tags!
For me: I used to have shame about the term bisexual so I used to use pansexual and lesbian on and off. When it finally cracked for me that it was okay to be bisexual I started using the term proudly.
