Wanted to drop some good news here; super excited to announce that Ava's Demon Book Two special edition is now at a Barnes and Noble near you!! I got to draw a magical looking Odin cover for this next one and I hope you like it. You can order it online here if you are not able to pick it up in stores.

The regular edition is also probably in a comic shop near you and on Amazon!! Yippee!!

for the last asker (about Odin's fairy tale)- well sidenote first, Erios is definitely Peter Pan considering the bratty personality, chipi as Tinkerbell, and the primates likely a stand-in for the lost boys to an extent- but my best guess for Odin would potentially be the Nutcracker (if that counts). Titan is the rat king, magpie as the one to be saved, and Odin as of course the nutcracker soldier. how Olai would presumably fit into that I'm not sure, I'm not well versed in nutcracker characters enough (though I suppose there is that whole jack & Jill connection considering Odin's scar on his head but that's more of a nursery rhyme isn't it)

Just here to pick your brain abt something

Okay, so, all of the Ava’s demon main characters are supposed to be associated with some kind of fairy tale.

Ava is meant to allude to Alice In Wonderland (I had to read the wiki to see it)

Maggie is for Beauty And The Beast

Gil is obvi The Little Mermaid

And, following this trend, my definatly-not-canon-in-the-slightest girlie Sylvia alludes to Rapunzel, what with her wanting freedom, an overbearing and transphobic mother, being kinda sheltered, growing up surrounded by art, etc

But it’s not really clear to me what Odin alludes to. Time will tell what Erios might allude to, I feel like we don’t know enough about them, but Odin? Odin’s been here since, like, the start. The connection to Norse Odin seems too…boring? Obvious? Not really a fairy tale? Idk how to put it. I checked the wiki and it gave me nada

Thoughts?

after giving it some thought and digging through old art, I'm not familiar with anything save for the Norse Myths that could relate to him.

The giants (Titan) that destroyed (Ragnarok) his home. Yet, he is still alive and looking for hosts (the living gods) to restore it to it's former glory. Many gods survived Ragnarok (not including Odin, ironically), which echoes the ghosts living on in hosts. His home planet being ice-cold also relates to the north, his sisters all being named after corvids, as the god Odin had two crows to help him keep watch over the realms.

Today I got not-that-mildly obsessed with the comic @avasdemon so here’s my interpretation of the potential host for the demon of sloth and the demon themself.

This will likely end up basically an AU

The Demon: Thsol Thargy

Name Meaning: “Thsol” is obviously an anagram of “Sloth”, but it’s pronounced “Thistle”, which in flower language can represent tenacity. They were known as the warrior who was “too lazy to give up.” As for Thargy, it’s derived from lethargy, which means a lack of energy and enthusiasm

Gender: Gender-fluid, neutral-leaning, any pronouns really if they’re being honest

Species: Somnobelle

Appearance: Very moth-like, big & completely black eyes, gold & pink antennae. Their skin, neck & wrist floof, hair, and most of their wings are pure white, with black dots along the edge of their wings. Hair is extremely short. Real size was about a head shorter than Wrathia, but that’s still saying something…

Relationships:

Wrathia: Helped her through some rough moments, is one of two people (the other being Pedri) to have seen her vulnerable. Wrathia views them to be the weakest of her warriors, despite their abilities being strong in their own right, just not physically so.

Pedri: Amicable enough; he definitely looks down on them in terms of strength but not to the extent of Wrathia

Nevy: They tried to be friends, she was too jealous of their relationship with Wrathia and Pedri

Tuls: Didn’t talk much, but they were nice to each other

Tylotung: The weirdo buddies :)

The mystery greed demon: TBD

Sylvia: Probably the most amicable of the host-demon relationships, maybe contested by Gil and Nevy. She appreciates that he waited until she would understand what making a pact would mean before approaching her with the offer. Prior to that, they acted as her secret comfort when things got hard back home, as Sylvia learned pretty quickly that everyone else thought she was talking to herself. Possessions were rare

Personality: Subdued, doesn’t say much and is to the point with what she does say. Friendly as it “takes more effort to be mean”, avoidant when problems arise until it’s unavoidable

Powers: Sleep induction, wind manipulation, hypnotic voice, flight, dream manipulation

Likes: Warmth, light, sweet things, Sylvia, Wrathia being okay, Ava being okay

Dislikes: TITAN, being alone

What he got from the pact: Sylvia swearing to assist the host of Wrathia in their pact. Basically, if Ava fails, so do Sylvia and Thsol.

The Host: Sylvia Indolante

Name meaning: Sylvia is derived from “Sylph” which is a wind spirit in the works of Paracelsus, who also came up with the idea of the philosophers stone and a whole bunch of other ideas. Indolante is a twist on the word “indolent”, which is a synonym for slothful

Gender: Trans woman

Age: 16

Home Planet: Paracelsus, semi-famous for its three moons, each a primary color of paint

Home Planet Culture: Paracelsus is all about color and creativity. White is seen as…wrong to them. It’s absence, sickness, apathy. It’s a good thing Paracelsus is hidden, it would’ve been destroyed by TITAN by now if not, as it would be a fool’s errand to try and assimilate them into the TITAN cult. Paracelsian’s hair comes in all colors you can imagine including black, but excluding white. When Paracelsian are sick, a lock of their hair turns white, and if dead, all of their hair turns white as well as their skin. For a living, healthy Paracelsian to have white hair, it is considered an extremely bad omen…Like a piece of you is missing. When you’re sick, your health is missing; when dead, your life. They’d think you somehow lost your soul…

Appearance: White hair as a result of the pact (formerly bright pink), golden heart-shaped pupils with fuchsia irises (normal white sclera), extremely pale yellow skin. Average height. Hair is shoulder length but was once much longer.

Flower Association: Dandelions, in both stages

Relationships:

Ava: Already very close, Ava has trouble believing sometimes that Via is just that nice, Sylvia wants her to be happy and thinks she’s cute and pretty and highkey badass and also-

Odin: He isn’t used to the compliments she gives him, but she’s so desperate for companionship at this point that she just says what she thinks about the people she likes and it overwhelms him a tad

Gil: *Awkward silence intensifies*

Maggie: The mutual hatred of a thousand burning suns

Erios: They match each other’s energy

Thsol: Comfort each other when they need it

Personality: Was always a people person, but this got an uptick when she became ostracized back home…Cheerful, optimistic, sometimes high-energy but knows when to calm down

Powers: Wind manipulation, shapeshifting into wind, unlocking anything with a lock, levitation, flight, sleep induction (post-potion), dream manipulation (potion), hypnotic voice (potion)

Likes: Fruit, freedom, Ava, Odin, Thsol, games

Dislikes: Being trapped or controlled, Maggie’s treatment of Ava, hurting people, TITAN

What she got from the pact: True, unadulterated freedom. No chain nor cage nor door can hold her, she moves as freely as the wind, traveling the cosmos as she wants (well, once Ava is finished with her pact that is). And yet, there’s one place she can’t return to, her home planet, all because what her hair means…

After the potion: Gains black sclera as well as neck + wrist floof & becoming more drawn to warmth and light, which Ava is happy to give. Gets tired more easily now, but that’s okay.

What happened/would happen upon drinking the potion: First, the wind picked up. Sylvia’s current outfit turned into a pale pink dress. Small pink astral moths started appearing. Her neck started itching, as well as her wrists (that’s the floof growing in), and she shut her eyes tight. All non-hosts around her started falling asleep. The floof finished growing in. She starts looking for a spot to sleep, humming to herself as she goes. And when she finds somewhere suitable she shoots out some kind of weird silk and weaves a hammock in seconds. Lies down in the hammock, closes it up. Ava had to remove her (still sleeping) and get her somewhere more safe. Then she woke.
