Big ups to the exec producer of Odd Thomas for that one. Time to take my foot off the slack pedal and gun it up to 88. Work’s done and I can prove it to you, the royal we, by posting tons more of possibly meaningless material from my life and abroad. You may feel different after seeing my pictures...

Odd Thomas officially done filming.
As of August 13, 2011.
Though how ironic would it be if they took two more days?

I was just an extra in this movie today.
I was there for 14 1/2 hours, since 5:30 this morning. It was a long day.
This is their last week of filming, so they’re sort of cramming to get everything done.
It seems like an interesting story, and I have to give mad props to Addison Timlin, who is playing Stormy.  I wouldn’t be able to run in 4 inch pink stilettos while screaming at the top of my lungs.

Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz
“The dead don’t talk. I don’t know why.” But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Odd Thomas thinks of himself as an ordinary guy, if possessed of a certain measure of talent at the Pico Mundo Grill and rapturously in love with the most beautiful girl in the world, Stormy Llewellyn. Maybe he has a gift, maybe it?s a curse, Odd has never been sure, but he tries to do his best by the silent souls who seek him out. Sometimes they want justice, and Odd?s otherworldly tips to Pico Mundo’s sympathetic police chief, Wyatt Porter, can solve a crime. Occasionally they can prevent one. But this time it’s different.
A mysterious man comes to town with a voracious appetite, a filing cabinet stuffed with information on the world’s worst killers, and a pack of hyena-like shades following him wherever he goes. Who the man is and what he wants, not even Odd?s deceased informants can tell him. His most ominous clue is a page ripped from a day-by-day calendar for August 15.
Today is August 14.
In less than twenty-four hours, Pico Mundo will awaken to a day of catastrophe. As evil coils under the searing desert sun, Odd travels through the shifting prisms of his world, struggling to avert a looming cataclysm with the aid of his soul mate and an unlikely community of allies that includes the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. His account of two shattering days when past and present, fate and destiny converge is the stuff of our worst nightmares — and a testament by which to live: sanely if not safely, with courage, humor, and a full heart that even in the darkness must persevere.
Can't wait for the movie?  Check out the book!

Dean Speaks About the Odd Thomas Movie
Hey, everyone. I generally don’t weigh in on film adaptations in progress. I’m usually full of fear that they’ll go badly wrong. Not this time. Here’s part of what I sent to Steve Sommers, last fall, when I first read his screenplay:
“The script is a spot-on, blow-out-the-walls, edge-of-your-chair, emotionally moving, thrill-packed, dazzlingly fresh, in-your-face, stunningly structured, absolute masterpiece that reinvents the tentpole picture by giving it meaning beyond spectacle and heart that should make it the biggest damn date movie ever.”
I babbled on at greater length, and my enthusiasm is not in the least diminished now that the casting is underway. Steve is going for superb actors who might not be quite how you pictured some of the characters, but there is so much talent in the cast that they are going to add tremendous weight to the picture. I couldn’t be more pleased.
There have been some changes, as there always are, but none of them gave me a moment’s pause. He has condensed the book in as smart a way as it is possible to condense it, combined some characters, and stayed true to the essence of the story. He understands the novel on all levels and knows these characters nearly as well as I know them. I trust him as I never thought I would trust a filmmaker.  Not many A-list directors can also write great screenplays, and of those who can, I’m not aware of any who, as director, has screwed up his own wonderful script. If Steve manages to do that, I promise you I will beat him senseless. He’s bigger than me, and I’ll have to sneak up on him, and I might need chloroform, but I will be relentless.
So if you like Odd, if he’s special to you as he is to me, let’s be happy. He–and his first film–is in extremely good hands.

Odd Thomas Interview
During our recent Fright Night 3D edit bay visit, Dread Central was able to check in with actor Anton Yelchin about his recently announced participation in the feature-film adaptation of prolific writer Dean Koontz’s 2003 New York Times bestseller Odd Thomas.
For those who may not have read the book (do yourselves a favor, pick it up if you haven’t read it), Odd Thomas is centered around a mysterious short-order cook named Odd (Yelchin will be playing the titular character) with supernatural abilities who uses them to prevent terrible events from unfolding around him- sometimes through the aid of supernatural entities including none other than Elvis Presley.
And now that Fright Night 3D is getting ready to hit theaters in a few months, Yelchin is already in preparation mode for Odd Thomas, which is set to start shooting very soon in New Mexico.
The actor discussed his initial reactions to the script and how he’s prepping himself both mentally and physically for the role. “I actually read the script before the book and just found it very moving so I knew I really wanted to play Odd,” said Yelchin.
“But now that I’ve been able to read both versions of Odd’s story, I’ve been going through the book to see what I can try and get back into the script version because there’s just a lot in the book that you can’t get into the script. But in terms of capturing the essential nature of who Odd is and his relationship with Stormy, his relationship with The Chief, and this sort of fear that builds in him that something terrible is coming that he can’t completely see, it captures all of that really well. And the love story really works, I think. I know Dean Koontz is very happy with the script and thinks it works. I think my goal is going to be to try and bring little things back from the book that maybe dialogue-wise I really liked that aren’t in the script. You know, make him as utilitarian as possible because in the book it’s very clear- despite his abilities, his biggest dream is to work at a tire shop.”
“I also have to grow out my hair for Odd Thomas, but we might actually cut it, and because this is my first week with long hair I don’t know how I feel about it yet honestly. But I’ve been working out too because I’m usually really small. It’s funny, I did this one movie where I just put on a lot of weight and I was really chubby in it and then I lost it all for Fright Night and now I’m putting it all on again. So I guess it’s just fun to change things around, but I still don’t know about the hair. Feels like I have a Steven Seagal thing going on,” added Yelchin.
Look for more on Odd Thomas soon!
