hi my name’s caspian (they/she) and this is my book blog soo.. hello!!

my favourite books are the picture of dorian gray, a dark and drowning tide, if we were villains, no longer human, any of sapphos poems, heartstopper vol 4, and the iliad!!

my favourite authors are shakespeare, oscar wilde, sappho, shannon messenger, rick riordan and alice oseman!

i just started reading de profundis and why do you guys like alfred douglas so much like bro i saw a review that was like “the greatest and longest love letter of all time 🩷🩷” on the front of the book but this is basically what i write in my notes app about your toxic ex except your ex got you imprisoned and put you in debt. also wilde tried to end it many times but he would always beg him to be his friend again, and one time when he was almost able to get rid of him for a while he threatened to let’s say get rid of himself and wilde literally begged his mother to send him away from london so douglas would leave him alone. wilde did become friends again with douglas when his brother died though. now i’m gonna talk about when douglas got sick with the flu and wilde took care of him got him books, stayed with him, got him grapes from london because he didn’t like the ones at the hotel they were at, etc etc and then wilde got the flu so he’d be given the same courtesy right? right..? WRONG. he was left alone for days at a time and douglas wouldn’t even get him a singular book so he was just left staring at the ceiling. so he got really thirsty one night and went to get milk but douglas was in the sitting room and douglas started yelling and wilde got legitimately scared. so anyway now it’s wildes bday yippee!! and he got a letter from douglas!! booo!! and it was not a pleasant letter, he did not send a lot of pleasant letters, anyway i’m just gonna put a small quote here regarding the letter “You concluded your letter by saying: ‘When you are not on your pedestal you are not interesting. The next time you are ill I will go away at once’ […] How often have those words come back to me in the wretched solitary cell of the various prisons I have been sent to. I have said them to myself over and over again, and seen in them, I hope unjustly, some of the secret of your strange silence.” so ermm not very cutesie in my opinion! also he sold his library for a “pretty little present” for douglas. yeahh…. ok well that’s all for now i WILL continue when i finish reading :)
