Bittersweet Farewell

He had had enough.

Wonshik loved Jaehwan, but he couldn’t keep doing this to his beloved boyfriend. Every day after he came home from a busy day at work he’d notice Jaehwan cooking at the kitchen smiling to himself. He might have been overthinking, but he couldn’t erase the image of Jaehwan wiping a tear from his cheek when he thought Wonshik wasn’t looking at him.

Wonshik was happy, he was. But, was Jaehwan as satisfied as him?

Jaehwan gave up everything, followed Wonshik to Busan where the position of head surgeon awaited. He did it out of love because his boyfriend was making history. Jaehwan had put his life on hold for Wonshik to achieve his well-earned dream.

It wasn’t because they needed money. Hell, Wonshik could probably support a big family and all of their expenses. It was unfair to Jaehwan. In Seoul, he was developing an entertainment company with bigshot guys he had met at the musicals he had been at. He had quit it all for Wonshik. Jaehwan had a chance to do something good, something that would make him happy.

”Dr. Kim?”

Wonshik turned away from the MRI scans, meeting the nurse’s frown. He had to do something about it. But, most definitely, he shouldn’t be distracted about it at work.

When he got home after a thirty-six-hour shift at the hospital, he found Jaehwan munching on chocolate Lucky Charms while watching The Simpsons. Wonshik couldn’t help but smile fondly at the childish grin Jaehwan gave him. After washing up, he exhaustedly threw himself next to Jaehwan.

”You know that I love you, right?”

”You’ve proved it over a million times.”

”And I want you to be happy.”

”I am happy, babe. What’s wrong?”

”Are you pleased?”

Jaehwan put the bowl on the coffee table and pulled Wonshik into a sitting position so that they could face each other.

”Yes, I am. I have you; we love each other and share this beautiful home.”

”But you could do so much more.”

”I am satisfied, Wonshik. I don’t need anything else. Maybe kids—in the future—and we should get married eventually.”

Wonshik took a deep breath; he wanted to be part of that plan too. It just—it didn’t feel right. That bigger picture painted Wonshik as the breadwinner, the head of the family and Jaehwan as the stay-at-home husband taking care of their place and the kids. No, Jaehwan had so much potential to do as he pleases and he had to use it now. Otherwise, it would be too damn late to enter the entertainment industry.

”I am letting you go, ” Wonshik whispered.

Jaehwan flinched as if Wonshik had raised his voice at him. ”What do you mean?” he squeaked, voice breaking and eyes welling up with tears.

”I’ve been a selfish bastard, dragging you all the way from Seoul to Busan for my career. You should have a job too; you are so talented, yet you’re trapped here with me.”

”Wonshik—why…”

”In the long run, you’ll thank me, you’ll see.”

Numb, that’s how he spent the next days, on autopilot forcing himself to smile now and then. Wonshik adopted the facade of acting normal until it felt like it over the years. He fell in love again, although those feelings were numb.

Wonshik found himself at the theater thanks to his fiancee. She had to drag him out of the car when he realized where they were and the show they were going to see. As the cast bowed down while the audience clapped excitedly, he couldn’t pry his eyes away from the gorgeous man smiling proudly and acting cute as fan service. Some things never change. Lee Jaehwan. He was the founder of the company, directed the musical and played the leading role. Wonshik ducked his head when Jaehwan waved at his way, thinking that he might recognize him, which was impossible, there were hundreds of people here.

He chuckled to himself. He had done the right thing, yet fucking again. It still pained him like a wound that hadn’t healed properly. The outcome was positive, and all he had to do was walk away.

Hello there ^^ I think that all of their interactions are pretty much real? Raken are generally fooling around and always cracking jokes left and right. Reading their convos in SNS (Insta, Twitter) are always nice to read. And the way that they gaze/stare at each other is something else >///<
