Crossing things off of my bucket list in the UK

my memory is terrible and I'm forgetting a lot of things, so I decided to chronicle my life somewhere. however, my carpal tunnel and short attention span restrict me from physical journaling. so here we are!
my boyfriend and I visited europe last year, and I got to check off a lot from my bucket list (in no particular order):
see "sunflowers" by vincent van gogh (british museum, london) - van gogh is my favorite artist because he was believed to have bipolar disorder (like me!). I have a print of a different sunflowers painting, so I was in awe to see this one in person at the british museum. i've seen "the starry night" in nyc twice - once at the museum of modern art and again at the metropolitan museum of art (as part of a larger van gogh exhibit in 2023). I wasn't able to get tickets to the van gogh museum when we visited amsterdam, but I was more than content to have seen this painting as well as others before!
seeing big ben (london) - as soon as big ben was within my horizon, I felt the "holy shit, I made it here" moment. I never thought I'd able to visit europe! we definitely started our trip out strong by visiting the westminster area and taking it all in.
taking the train to paddington station (london) - in this house, we love paddington. we took the tube from our airbnb to paddington station, and it was a major highlight for us. i bought a little paddington plush keychain, and we had an orange marmalade sandwich. we also had english breakfasts at a cafe nearby! can't wait for paddington 3!
take the harry potter studio tour (warner bros. leavesden studios, watford) - harry potter was a MAJOR part of my childhood, and I had always DREAMED of taking this tour. I was on this site making harry potter gifs and photo sets like nobody's business as a teenager. when we knew we were going to europe, we found that getting tickets was a little difficult, but we were able to book for our visit. I used to shamelessly read dramione fan fiction, so when a video of tom felton greeted everyone on this bus, I was hyped! I bought a ravenclaw robe, we had butterbeer, and we were quoting our favorite scenes as we saw the sets in front of us. don't remember it clearly, but I remember the pure joy I felt reliving the good parts of my childhood that the story was a huge part of.
visit sites significant to the beatles (london, liverpool) - the beatles were also imperative in the development of my adolescent music taste. "blackbird" was one of the first songs I really knew how to play on the guitar. we took the "magical mystery tour" bus in liverpool and got to see penny lane, strawberry fields, and the cavern club to name a few. in london, we were able to buy things at the abbey road shop and take photos at the famous crosswalk.
visiting the uk didn't feel real then, and it is still surreal looking back. anyways, I'm starting these lil blog posts to honor my younger self and to help my current self remember things.
