My opinion of "White Privilege"

People can get pissed at me all they want, unfollow me, swear at me, I don't care. But here is my opinion of "White Privilege". A girl just told me to "check my privilege" because of my stance on this pointless VOTY situation and it not being racist. The truth is though, I take that offensively. When someone says I have "white privilege" you're telling me I got to where I am because of my skin color. Not because of my drive, my intelligence, my personality, my work ethic, or anything that I have acquired in my 19 years on this planet. You're telling me I got into college because I'm white, not because I worked hard and got the grades and applied and wrote the essays. I don't get pulled over because I'm white, not because I am a safe driver and I follow the laws of the road. I don't get arrested because I'm white, not because I've never had confrontation with an officer because I don't break the law. I have a job because I'm white, not because I annoyed the hell out of the manager of my first job until they hired me and I became experienced. I grew up in the slums of Worcester with a parent that provided nothing for me, luckily I had an amazing father who loved me and gave me all he could while teaching me how to be the intelligent and successful young lady I am today. That was the only privilege I had. That and hard work. I'm sorry but I will not let anyone tell me everything I worked for was handed to me and not earned because I am white.
