I just saw an advertisement for “spring black Friday” and uh. I need to know what that is. What is the significant Friday in spring. Is it Good Friday. Are there going to be amazing doorbusters on the day of the crucifixion. Are we commemorating the death of Jesus with the hottest deals in town

"the chosen" season 5, episodes 1-2 commentary + overall review
so i went to go see the release of episodes 1-2 in theaters today and ohhhhhhh my god
i was dumb lmao it was 2 episodes and just about 2 hours not 3
a full spoiler review will be below the cut, but without spoilers:
hands down the BEST season opener that the chosen has done
i love how fully fleshed-out the characters are at this point, because this season is obviously the catalyst as everything is happening
absolute BANGER apostle-bros content, they are a family now my beloveds
jesus :( he's so sad :( but oh my god jonathan roumie the man that you are
i can already tell this will be my favorite season
below the cut is literally all spoilers for the first two episodes so read at your own risk!!
general comments:
PETER <33333 MY LOVE <333333 he's so silly and goofy and his moments with andrew and matthew are my FAVORITES
oh john <3 he really is the beloved apostle i love him so so very much
absolutely adore how both episodes open with moments from the last supper + i hope they continue that for all the episodes
episode 1:
OKAY WOW
first off the last supper opening killed me, the close-ups of each apostle, judas being so noticeably absent from the table, everyone being on the verge of tears??
yussif :( tamar holding out her hand to him so he joins them on entering jerusalem and he shakes his head, ohhhhh
the apostles + disciples being SO excited and singing "hosanna", and jesus just smiling as he listens to them??? i was so giddy during this moment
mary mags and mama mary holding onto each other???? favs
ZEE AND JESSE REUNION AND VERONICA HUGGING EDEN OHHH BELOVEDS
I RECEIVED A SINGLE SHOT OF ZEE AND JESSE AND VERONICA STANDING TOGETHER THEY ARE SIBLINGS YOUR HONOR
joanna!!!!!!!! love her sweet friendship with tamar
yussif changing clothes so that he could still listen to jesus, oh i love him
mary mags and john being the only two who fully understand what is going to happen to jesus my heart hurts for them
just in general john being so attuned to jesus' struggle and realizing his pain
OKAY SO THERE WAS A GUY IN BLUE THAT HAD A HUGE FOCUS FOR PART OF THE EPISODE AND HE WAS VERY NOTICEABLY WRITING THINGS DOWN SO MY GUT TELLS ME IT'S EITHER MARK OR LUKE I'M PRAYING I'M RIGHT
atticus >:(
shmuel >:(
kafni >:(
jesus making part of his bridle a section of the whip???? amazing
episode 2:
last supper opening had jesus calling peter "simon" right before the line about him denying him and both andrew and peter looking SO hurt and shocked by this oh my jonah boys
peter wanting to preach and being so worried and andrew and zee and phillip being there for him and giving him hints oh they are the brothers ever!!!!!
MALCUS THE SERVANT WHO GETS HIS EAR CUT OFF ARE YOU KIDDING ME I LOVE THAT HE'S CONNECTING WITH JOHN IT'S GONNA MAKE HIS CONVERSION SO SO GOOD
AND LEANDER MY BELOVED DARLING HE'S BACK
tamar's connection with the shopkeeper had me genuinely thinking it was going to be revealed that it was her brother esp because he said she reminded him of his sister
THE RAMAH FLASHBACK WHAT IF I DIE WHAT IF I THROW MYSELF OUT THE WINDOW WHAT THE HECK
SCREAMING CRYING ON THE GROUND THAT'S NOT ALLOWED I MISS HER SO MUCH
but also ohhhh thomas getting a full moment for his grief with ramah's mom, and him saying specifically that he does NOT blame jesus for her death, and though he does not understand everything he believes in jesus???
THE TEMPLE SCENE WAS SO GOOD I LOVE ANGRY JESUS
they did NOT hold back and it was perfection, jesus was PISSED and absolutely losing it
the last shot was of him staring down caiaphas and shmuel and it was SO good and SO powerful
judas >:(
overall this was an insane start to season 5, and i am so ready to see the next three episodes next week! i'm looking forward to seeing judas actually fall and betray jesus, because it's hinted at in the trailer for part 2
i'm also looking forward to seeing if we get more flashbacks or flash-forwards (BEGGING for a flash-forward to john alone on the island)

the chosen season 5 episodes 3-5: review/favorite moments
this is going to be quick bc i don't want to forget anything BUT i'm also so very sleepy <3
spoiler free review:
i fully thought it couldn't get better and then it DID and the end of episode 5 had me screaming and ohhhh this was the first batch that made me fully cry i can't handle this anymore
and there's full spoilers below the cut!
ohhhhhh shmuel looking so pained and worried part of me feels bad for him but that part gets squished
judas when i catch you... when i catch you judas...
thaddeus confirmed as knowing jesus the longest they are THE big bro/little bro duo ever
andrew ia a theater kid confirmed he is SO silly i love him
just the apostles got into jesus' parable so much and they actually got to be silly for a while they're such brothers it hurts
JESSE AND VERONICA SCENE YEAHHHHHHHH MY FAVS
the way i sobbed when the thunder brothers and sons of jonah sat together with jesus on the mount of olives????? and jesus just completely opened up to them???
JOHN KISSING JESUS' HEAD AND SAYING HE LOVED HIM AND JESUS SAYING HE LOVED JOHN OHHHHHHHH MY HEART CAN'T TAKE THIS YOUR HONOR
jesus?????? seeing david???? and david singing to him and consoling him???? holy shit?????
the dayenu scene at the start of episode 4????? john starting it off and then big james coming in at the end and adding "if he hadn't brought us the messiah" and just breaking down at the table????? my poor thunder brothers????
AND THEN JOHN LEANING INTO JESUS LIKE IT SAYS IN THE GOSPEL AND JESUS HINTING TO WHO WILL BETRAY HIM
AND JOHN'S FACE WHEN HE REALIZES THAT JUDAS IS THE BETRAYER AGHHHHHH
jesus having a special meal with the women and calling them his sisters and mama mary sharing embarrassing stories about little baby jesus and ohhhh i want to stay in that moment forever
EDEN MY LOVE GETTING ATTENTION
just... jesus looking to each woman and highlighting what they've done for him and his ministry and him loving his sisters and his mom so so very much and the women loving him so deeply and john listening from the outside oh god kill me
AND THE WOMEN'S DAYENU ALL ABOUT JESUS AND HOW HE HELPED THEM OH MY GOD MAMA MARY IMMEDIATELY HAD ME SOBBING BUT THEN THEY ALL ADDED ONTO IT
john and jesus' conversation actually made me cry, john being so emotional but also the fact that he is the one to bring up the guilt and the blame because the apostles will be the ones who leave jesus and john himself is the only apostle to not abandon jesus at the cross????
episode 5 starting with all of them speculating about who will betray jesus and thomas immediately going to jesus and jesus reassuring him that even though he's been angry his faith has never left him??????
JUDAS IMPLICATING THOMAS I WILL LOSE MY MIND
yussif trying to stand up for jesus and just being shot down and trying to do the right thing :(
ohhh when the apostles all go back to the house, and little james started crying, and then andrew, phillip, and nathaniel are hugging, and MATTHEW HUGGING PETER???? HELP ME IMMEDIATELY????
i'm still SO convinced the writing guy is either luke or mark there's no way he's not one of them
i was so scared for mary but then NICODEMUS MY FAVORITE GUY HE'S BACK HE'S BACK HE'S BACK I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR HIM YEAHHHHHHHH
judas >:(
overall still absolutely insane and the best few episodes, i'm not ready to finish the season next week oh my god

Rewatched Season 2 of the Chosen! I know some people had a problem with Jesus rehearsing the Sermon on the Mount, but I honestly do not. And if you pay close attention, Matthew didn't actually find any flaws in the sermon, I am convinced the show is saying Jesus let him be there primarily to record the words (and as an audience expy, of course). He didn't actually get to change a word of it.

5 reasons you should see the chosen season 5...from someone who didn't like season 4
no spoilers ahead but feel free to private message me to chat about details!
ok...i did not enjoy season 4. well, there were great moments i loved, but in general the writing direction and the focus on boring, alternate tangents really made me fall off so much that i couldn't motivate myself to post about it. i just didn't get excited about some of their choices, both as a lover of good tv or a lover of scripture. least favorite season so far. but if you, like me, were concerned about the direction of the chosen after s4, not to worry, because season 5 parts 1 and 2 (have not seen part 3 yet) are some of the best episodes of the chosen we have had so far.
5. Return to scripture as a main focus. This was probably out of necessity since there are SO MANY things that happen during holy week, so the show really hits those big moments (and those moments in scripture that don't usually get much attention). they didn't shy away from "controversial" parts of the Bible here - they leaned in more and it pays off. At the same time, the background context elevates and makes sense of the biblical events rather than replacing them - classic Chosen goodness
4. The acting really delivers. Certain characters who haven't gotten to shine in s4 finally come back into the spotlight. the emotions are so raw this season, and actors really put their all into this, no softening blows. also, you can tell that the writers have added details to the characters that highlight the actor's personalities and talents and it is delightful.
3. The writing is better than ever. Not going to lie, in my opinion last season had a lot of long awkward scenes with unnatural dialogue that went on and on...the pacing is better this season, AND the structure of this season is ingenious once you catch on to what's happening. the only words i can use for the way they approached this is that it is just heartbreaking while also so, so ... satisfying.
2. No ridiculous cliffhangers. like, don't get me wrong, they leave you wanting more and wondering what's next, but in a much less painful and annoying way. I think ending part 1 of s4 on a cliffhanger after ramah's death was a mistake, especially since the rest of the season was soo delayed (by unforeseen circumstances with Angel Studios, I know). each part of S5 feels not like incomplete parts of story, but a independent journey worth seeing on its own… with an intriguing material left for a sequel (part 2, part 3).
It really does belong in theaters. Like, i am disappointed that it is going to take so long to get the free online version, and it is wayy too expensive to see everything in theaters nowadays, but if you have the time and the means to see any of these parts in theaters, i recommend it. this is not just a tv show on a bigger screen, the structure is more grand and cinematic while still keeping the heart of why we love the chosen.

Considering that The Chosen re-casted the actors of Apostle Philip and Big James, which actors will the animated versions of these characters resemble?
Almost certain they would use the most recent actors.
