Headcanons for FTM Dave Strider (with hints of Davekat)

the first time he decided to cut his hair short he got impatient and just tried chopping it off with his sword. it was horrible and uneven but he was very proud

since cutting one's own hair is common practice on alternia, karkat is happy to lend a hand helping dave keep his hair the way he likes it for maximum gender euphoria

despite dave being a time player and therefore presumably being perfectly aware of how long he's been wearing his binder, karkat can and will still badger him about making sure to take breaks for his health (karkat vantas: professional worrywort)

on that note, dave is actually really good at remembering to wash his binder(s), despite being not so great at remembering to take it off. he likes it to smell nice

kanaya is more than happy to help dave make binders with fun colors or patterns or even to tailor him suits or other clothing to help suit him and bring some affirmation in the form of fashion as well as assist him with some light makeup if he's in the mood for it to help contour his face to look more masculine

rose knitted him a packer! (several actually but he most likes the ones that are red, rainbow, and pink-blue-white in color)

when his voice started changing on T he was really embarrassed by the voice cracks and didnt talk for like a month (at least until karkat convinced him he sounds very handsome)

embraces the masculine urge to wear shorts in weather below freezing

his first pride was very memorable and he's got as many photos as he can tacked up on a corkboard, and he's got his first pride flag he bought there hung up too (karkat went too and got complimented on his costume)

he's got one of those shirts that say like "GENDER" but with "end" in a different color

Headcanons for Karkat Vantas

pressure seeking sensory needs. it’s part of why he wears sweaters 24/7 despite running hot as most lowbloods do. he just likes the feeling of the heavier fabric (and it helps prevent accidental bloodcolor reveals). if you’re his quadrantmate he wants you to use him as a pillow. please lay on him it is very comforting

related- when he’s stressed, he has a habit of pressing his thumb against his throat or wrist. it not only helps alleviate tension through immediate pointed (but not painful) pressure but also allows him to monitor his heartrate. feeling or hearing a pulse, even his own, is something he finds grounding when he feels out of control

he loves comfort food. simple, filling food that might be kind of bland but it’s warm and hearty and just feels like getting a hug when you eat it. it helps that the recipes are usually pretty simple and he isn’t super talented in terms of using a stove (not a disaster but he’s not dishing out anything fancy)

because he couldn’t exactly trust anyone on alternia due to his mutant status, he’s actually very skilled at first aid from having to patch up himself and his lusus. he’s absolutely got gauze and bandaids squirreled away somewhere at all times

suffers from frequent migraines. usually caused by stress by definitely exasperated by his habit of constant yelling. on the meteor he usually dealt with this by just finding a quiet hallways to lay on the cold floor for a while

match 3 puzzle games are this boys absolute shit, he’s addicted

has a habit of chewing on things, especially his shirt collars, when he’s bored (never got out of his teething phase)

has an insane reading speed. dude could read War & Peace Unabridged Directors Cut in like an hour. (also, turns out he’s good at reading upside down and backwards)

whenever he’s trying to think something through or looking for something, he just… starts tapping his fingers against his thumb. like. Crab Pinchers of Deep Thought (please don’t point it out, he will get embarassed)

he has an intense fear of blood. initially he thought it was just his own, but turns out he got used to that, past the ever present fear of being found out as a mutant. but he’s still got an incredibly weak stomach about anyone else’s blood, usually feeling physically ill upon seeing it, sometimes to the point it can be hard for him to stand, especially if he isn’t directly involved in the situation/fight. being a bystander doesn’t sit well with him
