I accidentally just read the AI after a Google search and it told me a food was safe for me when it wasn't. I'm now stuck in bed and in pain.
being so staunchly anti generative ai while everyone around you is "i used chatgpt" and "i asked grok" and google search is useless and every company is implementing ai and every single celeb is taking ai money and partnering with ai is like... it's so jarring. why can't you see the harm like i can? why are you so lazy? why are we making society this stupid? can we please stop? it's killing people does that not matter to you?

I love this! There's something fun about playing with your shape!
I wouldn't be as much bothered by the "how to dress right for your body type! :)" guides if they didn't presume to know what people want to look like. Ok you've got a guide on how to minimise one's most distinct features, one for every body type. But what if someone who's naturally long and gangly wants to emphasise how much they look like several David Bowies stacked on top of each other, or someone who's short and round wants to make sure that everyone is aware that she's as wide as she is tall with tits to match?

Excluded everything that definitely wasn't in it on AO3 and looked through all the results 100 to 3000 words and still nothing...
I've been trying to find a specific Star Trek DS9 fanfiction for a while now, and none of my searching is working.
Basically, Garak drugs Bashir over dinner and sneaks him into a crio pod and sends him off with some tellarites.

There's this interesting phenomenon where when you're a child, or some other vulnerable minority dependent on a job for shelter, you are actually under duress almost constantly. You can't say "I don't want to work today," you cannot say "I don't want to do the dishes, actually," you cannot choose not to participate. In a lot of cases, the punishment is explicit. Your parents might yell at you. Your boss might fire you. But in other cases, it's implicit. The mood will sour. You lose leeway. People get mad at you. And that creates a really shitty environment where you're constantly being coerced to do things!
And here's the kicker; you're not allowed to acknowledge that. You cannot acknowledge that you are being coerced, you cannot acknowledge that your free will is not being respected, because that's punished too. Your boss insists that you act excited. Your parents punish you for acting surly. You are forced to fake enthusiastic consent, constantly. It's a fucking nightmare. Your hand is being forced, you do not have the option to say "no," and if you ever, for a second, try to acknowledge that, everyone acts like you're the aggressor.

If you are a British/UK citizen, there is currently a petition running (with only 125 signatures) that ends in June 2025. The petition calls for the government to make it so that you do not need a diagnosis of gender dysphoria to change your gender.
If you are a British/UK citizen, and would like to sign:
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/701159
If you're not a British/ UK citizen it'd be much appreciated if you could share this post !! :)

Someone at an old job asked why I wanted to write up the meeting minutes for our team and I said 'i wanna control the narrative' and they were like 'what' and I pointed out that no one was gonna remember what we said in six months and so my interpretation of the meeting would dictate the assumed reality of what happened
"none of you ever send corrections when I offer the draft so y'all have consented to my version"
"we don't read that shit"
"you must trust me implicitly to create our shared reality that's so sweet"
That's how several coworkers decided I was a supervillain and how I learned several coworkers didn't understand record keeping as like a CONCEPT

what do you mean elon musk did a nazi salute on live tv at the united states presidential inauguration twice and is now erasing the evidence off the internet by replacing the footage with the crowd cheering instead?

there's a file called whatever_YYYYMMDD.csv with data generated every day
every day, we process the day's data and also reprocess a few days back
the way this is done involves copying over the various whatever_YYYYMMDD.csv files for the last few days from one folder to another
the way this is implemented is via a script that takes the earliest date and latest date we're processing today, converts them to a number in YYYYMMDD format, and loops between them
not a date. a number.
if one of those numbers is 20240612 and the other is 20240615, this is fine. it just hits every number in between them, which matches up to every existing whatever_YYYYMMDD.csv file in between those dates
if one of those numbers is 20240630 and the other is 20240703, this is slightly less fine. It's going to check a bunch of numbers that do not correspond to any dates, like 20240646. so it runs dozens more times than necessary, trying to move files that don't exist. fortunately computers are pretty fast and this adds very little time.
if one of those numbers is 20241230 and the other is 20250102, then instead of checking for seventy or so nonexistent files it checks for some nine thousand or so. each one of those is pretty fast. less than a second. but not, like, much less than a second.
several hours worth of delay in a process that should take seconds, which has been happening longer than i've been working here, every year, for a few days around new year's. which it seems nobody noticed for a number of reasons mostly adding up to 'several hours worth of delay are invisible unless you're specifically looking for it and nobody had a reason to look for it until now'

Okay, it was an 'absence episode' but probably not a seizure. They're planning to do a 24 hour EKG and see if that turns up anything.
I felt cold before Sunday dinner at my parents, and Mum took my blood pressure on Dad's machine. 99 over 72 and a pulse of 44. Whelp...
Managed to have a seizure during Christmas dinner, landed in the gravy and all, so I've got my brother driving all around to health centres and hospitals...

Listening to an audio book about queer history and heard about Elagabalus. All I could think was: Ella Gobbles would be a great drag name.
