Monday Night Watercolor Workshop Recap

Look at the gorgeous paintings that participants in the Monday Night Muse Watercolor Workshop created during our time together a few evenings ago. As always, it was a superb group of wonderfully friendly and joyful folks that joined in the painting. We had a fabulous time chatting, laughing, nibbling on cookies and painting our whimsical cityscapes. The interpretations of each cityscape was just remarkable and I love seeing how each artist created their own piece, using exquisite colors and design choices as we painted.

Acrylic Painted Tote

Painting a canvas tote bag with a whimsical and colorful city scape was our mixed media project for July, and I’ll tell you this: I already used this bag over the weekend as a transport for my art supplies when we were away in New Hampshire.

Doodle Mania

Over in the Creative Art Village, we work on a watercolor journal every month, adding gorgeous color and doodles to our pages. And it’s always so exciting to see just how each member interprets the project.

For the July project, we focused on “Abstract Circles,” and our journal pages were bursting with lovely and intricate doodles! This project in our watercolor journals in The Creative Art Village turned out to be such a breath of fresh air! No stress, no pressure—just free-flowing creativity as circles tumbled across the page. It was amazing how each person’s page looked completely unique, even though we all started with the same playful prompt. Some people went wild with vibrant, overlapping splashes, while others filled their circles with delicate patterns or quirky colors, letting their imaginations guide them.

That’s what I enjoy most about our projects here: There’s never a “right” or “wrong” way to paint. Every creative project feels open and welcoming, with an emphasis on having fun and exploring what inspires you in the moment. It’s really about celebrating individuality and sharing ideas, and I always come away inspired by the inventive mixes of color, pattern, and design that everyone brings to the table.

Creative Art Village member Melissa went all out with her doodles for July’s project! Look at the gorgeous colors and designs in her two pieces. Always one to “walk on the wild side” with her art, Melissa’s use of color, pattern and doodles are both inspiring and innovative! She has discovered such a unique and personal style with her art since I met her a few years ago, and I am so proud of how far she has come as a creative and vibrant visual artist. Bravo, Melissa!

Watercolor Bird Flocks of Fabulousness!

Last night’s Monday Night Muse Watercolor Workshop was an absolute delight. The studio buzzed with warm conversation as we set out to paint quirky, colorful, and whimsical birds, letting our imaginations lead the way. A few participants shared that it was their first time trying watercolors and, naturally, there were a few nerves at the start. But gentle encouragement and a supportive atmosphere quickly made everyone feel at home.

As our brushes met the paper, laughter and stories flowed freely, and it was wonderful to see everyone brighten up as their birds took shape, each one uniquely vibrant and full of character. Even our beginner artists soon relaxed, finding joy in playing with color and letting their creativity shine. By the end of the evening, the tables were filled with wonderful, expressive artwork—and an unmistakable sense of contentment and camaraderie lingered in the room. It truly felt like the perfect way to unwind, explore something new, and enjoy each other's company.

Monday Night Muse Watercolor Workshop: Funky Faces

There’s nothing quite like a Monday night filled with laughter, creativity, and a splash of color! This week’s Monday Night Muse Watercolor Workshop was all about letting go of expectations and embracing the fun side of art. Our studio buzzed with excitement as we gathered to paint funky faces—each one inspired by an uplifting, positive quote.

Kicking Off with Inspiration

We began the night by reading and sharing interesting, empowering quotes. These words became our creative spark, guiding the direction of our watercolor portraits. Instead of aiming for realism, we let the quotes shape our faces—sometimes literally!—and encouraged everyone to interpret them in their own unique way.

Breaking the Mold: Color & Technique

To break down the barriers of drawing and painting faces, we tossed aside the traditional skin tones and facial proportions. Here’s how we made it happen:

Inventive Color Schemes: Faces in teal, magenta, lime green, and even rainbow stripes! Each artist chose colors that felt bold, expressive, and true to their chosen quote.

Playful Techniques: We experimented with wet-on-wet blending, salt textures, splatter effects, and unexpected linework. Some faces had exaggerated features, while others were whimsical abstractions.

No Rules, Just Fun: The only requirement? Have fun and let go! Laughter filled the room as we cheered each other on and marveled at the wild, wonderful faces taking shape.

Why Funky Faces?

Painting faces can feel intimidating, but by steering away from the typical color schemes and structures, we discovered how freeing and joyful it can be. Each funky face became a celebration of individuality and positivity—a reminder that art is about expression, not perfection.

A Night to Remember

By the end of the night, our tables were covered in vibrant, unconventional portraits, each one paired with a quote that brought it to life. We left with new techniques, fresh inspiration, and a renewed sense of creative confidence.

Monday Night Watercolor Workshop

Hooooo boy! It’s a hot one out there today… and yesterday. We were lucky to be in a chilly studio with some nice cold air conditioning, fans and cold lemonade to help us stay cool!

It was a wonderfully enjoyable class last night with several newbies to my studio. It was great to meet new creative people and paint alongside each other as we chatted and shared book recommendations, stories and laughs.

Our class last night was working in warm colored circles, cool colored squares with a black and white focal image. It was a project I saw on Pinterest quite some time ago that I thought would be a great introduction for these lovely ladies to break open their watercolor skill set. And they did not disappoint! I am so proud of all of their hard work and their visions, and how each painting was a unique and gorgeous interpretation of their painting process. Very impressed!

Our Monday Night Muse Watercolor Workshop meets twice a month in my studio to work on a different project. Some finish their projects in the workshop, others take theirs home to finish up. Firework Flowers in Our New Watercolor Workshop

Good morning!

I’m so excited to share with you all the beautiful works of watercolor art that the ladies in our Monday Night Muse Watercolor Workshop completed during our first meeting yesterday evening. I am blown away by their creativity and color! Each of our artists really has such an individual style and interpretation of the project. It’s so inspiring to watch them work!

We enjoyed nibbling on some appetizers and sipping some drinks while we worked, laughed, shared stories and just had a plain ol’ great time together! What a great group! I can’t wait to see them again!
