Baird seguiu esse caminho ao deixar o Acampamento Meio-Sangue, após anos servindo como campista e heroi, e estabeleceu residência no Reino Unido, onde estudou para se tornar médico, manter vivo o legado da família e continuar seu trabalho como seguidor de Asclépio. Durante esse período, conheceu Ceres e, após dois anos de relacionamento, nasceu a pequena Bonnie. O motivo para esse romance era simples: Ceres havia se interessado pela forma como Baird dedicava sua vida a proteger os inocentes. Fossem semideuses, mortais, animais ou plantas, ele estava sempre colocando a própria segurança em risco, sem esperar nada em troca. Nem mesmo dinheiro, algo surpreendente vindo de um membro da família Littleton.

Logo após o nascimento da pequena semideusa, Ceres conjurou um jardim encantado em forma de labirinto ao redor da Mansão Bloomwood, residência ancestral dos Littleton nos Estados Unidos, como proteção contra os monstros que buscariam o cheiro da garota. Bonnie cresceu isolada do mundo, sob os cuidados atentos de Baird, que assumiu os papéis de tutor, guardião e único elo com o exterior. Era um pai atencioso, divertido e muito carinhoso, mas, por ser um semideus e um curandeiro, conhecia demais os perigos que a vida de heroi trazia. Por isso, se tornou extremamente superprotetor e nunca revelou à filha sua origem divina. Os anos formativos de Bonnie se desenrolaram em câmera lenta, pois tudo ao seu redor era cercado por muros floridos e antigos encantamentos, fazendo com que ela crescesse sem contato com o mundo mortal ou com outros semideuses.

Isso fez com que Bonnie crescesse imersa em um mar de tédio, e ela logo descobriu que não havia nada que detestasse mais. Por isso, para evitar ficar entediada, a garota mergulhava de cabeça em livros, séries, documentários, filmes e uma quantidade quase caótica de hobbies. Se interessava por um pouco de tudo: da jardinagem à moda, da culinária à escrita, passando pela botânica, o estudo de insetos, mitologia celta e cultura pop. Como não podia viver fora da mansão, encontrava refúgio assistindo a seriados sobre jovens, como Skins, One Tree Hill e outras séries teens. Esses universos se tornaram seu abrigo, e também sua forma de expressão, pois permitia que ela pudesse escrever fanfics e imaginar personagens, histórias e vidas completamente diferentes da sua. Porém, tudo mudou com a chegada de Constance Riddell, uma cantora famosa que se casou com Baird e trouxe um sopro de liberdade para dentro da mansão. Foi ela quem convenceu o marido a permitir que Bonnie estudasse em uma escola e começou a influenciar a mais nova a ser um pouco mais desobediente. Assim, a garota finalmente ingressou na Catherine Elliott School, uma das escolas mais prestigiadas do país.

No ambiente competitivo e monitorado da Catherine Elliott, Bonnie brilhou desde o primeiro instante. Sua confiança, o jeito elegante e refinado, a inteligência impressionante e o charme irresistível logo a tornaram uma das garotas mais populares da escola. Como era de se esperar, com seu ímpeto de fazer mil coisas ao mesmo tempo, ela ocupou todos os cargos possíveis: capitã das líderes de torcida, presidente do grêmio estudantil, representante em clubes acadêmicos e culturais, tudo isso enquanto mantinha um desempenho escolar impecável. Ganhou o apelido de Queen B por conta disso, além de despertar tanto admiração quanto inveja entre os colegas.

Foi numa noite de fuga, incentivada por sua mãe adotiva, que Bonnie decidiu que era hora de dar seu primeiro beijo. Tinha dezesseis anos e escolheu o garoto mais popular da escola para essa estreia. É claro que o encontro deu completamente errado,  o que ela já esperava, mas o que não imaginava era que a culpa seria dela. Algo despertou dentro de si no exato momento em que tentou beijá-lo, e o garoto acabou hospitalizado com sinais de hipotermia severa. Desesperada, Bonnie foi resgatada por seu pai, que então revelou a verdade: ela era filha da deusa das estações e havia herdado o poder do inverno. A revelação a aterrorizou. Descobrir que era capaz de congelar alguém com um simples toque a fez entrar em pânico. Desde então, passou a usar luvas e a evitar qualquer contato físico.

Entretanto, em vez de se afastar do mundo sobrenatural, aquilo apenas a empurrou ainda mais para dentro dele. Descobriu que seu pai também era filho de uma deusa e, além disso, ajudava outros semideuses feridos como curandeiro. É claro que logo passou a auxiliá-lo, combinando seus dons mágicos com o vasto conhecimento que vinha acumulando desde pequena. Ficou ainda mais obcecada por mitologia, monstros, feitiçaria e, principalmente, por fadas, já que desde criança tinha uma fixação por borboletas e agora sabia que vinha de sua conexão com sua avó, Psiquê. Desejava com todas as forças ir para o Acampamento Júpiter, onde poderia treinar, lutar e descobrir quem realmente era. Mas é claro que Baird sempre recusava seus pedidos, pois tinha medo do que poderia acontecer com sua filha preciosa. 

Com o passar do tempo, Bonnie passou a viver duas vidas. Pela manhã, era a estrela da escola,  envolvida com tudo e todos, admirada e invejada como a rainha da Catherine Elliott. À noite, se transformava em curandeira, aprendiz de magia e estudiosa dos horrores mitológicos, cada vez mais dedicada a desvendar os mistérios do oculto. Ao concluir o ensino médio, foi aceita por todas as universidades para as quais se inscreveu, incluindo três da Ivy League e o seu maior sonho, Oxford. Para comemorar, saiu com os amigos para uma festa na praia. Durante a celebração, dois monstros emergiram do mar e atacaram todos ali, incluindo seus amigos. Bonnie os enfrentou sozinha, seu instinto semideus assumindo o controle. E, por algum milagre divino, conseguiu matar um deles, congelando a criatura com seu poder antes que ela pudesse atacar novamente. Mas, antes que pudesse fazer o mesmo com o segundo, ele recuou, mergulhando de volta nas profundezas. Antes de desaparecer completamente, jurou vingança contra a garota.

Aquilo mudou tudo. Se sentindo como uma ameaça ambulante, Bonnie recusou a vaga em Oxford e passou um ano inteiro isolada na Mansão Bloomwood. Acreditava que ali, no coração do labirinto encantado, ninguém mais sairia ferido por sua causa. E, por um tempo, a paz realmente reinou. Mas o monstro voltou. Estava diferente, corrompido, mutado, forte o bastante para atravessar as barreiras mágicas e seguir seu rastro. Baird enfrentou a criatura para proteger a família, e ao presenciar a cena, Bonnie tomou a decisão de fugir. O monstro a queria, disso não havia dúvida, então faria com que ele a seguisse e deixasse seus pais em segurança. Com um mapa roubado do escritório do pai, Bonnie partiu sozinha rumo ao Acampamento Júpiter.

Chegar lá foi como cair em outro mundo. Era mais velha do que todos os outros novatos e não tinha nenhuma experiência real de combate, a não ser a que a deixou traumatizada. Os líderes e centuriões queriam jogá-la para a Quinta Coorte, como faziam com quem não se encaixava em lugar nenhum. Mas a Quarta Coorte demonstrou interesse nela, talvez por verem algo além do medo e da inexperiência, talvez por terem a intuição o que ela ainda poderia se tornar. Assim, Bonnie Littleton, que já havia sido muitas coisas, finalmente recebeu sua nova identidade: legionária.

Week 11: Digital Citizenship and Conflict: Social Media Governance

Digital citizenship is more than using technology responsibly. It includes active, informed participation in digital society and the negotiation of power and identity online. While it’s often portrayed as empowering and inclusive, it can also reflect existing inequalities and exclusions (Mossberger et al., 2008).

Governance in the Digital Age

Social media governance operates on multiple levels. At the macro level, national laws (like Australia's Online Safety Act 2021) and international regulations shape digital environments. At the micro level, moderators of Facebook Groups or subreddits set rules for their communities. These governance structures are often fragmented, with competing interests from governments, corporations, and users (Crowther & Rayman-Bacchus, 2016).

It critiques societal victim-blaming and the normalization of abusive male behavior online. “Jaga la diri… kau tu perempuan!” (“Take care of yourself… you’re a woman!”), while another says, “Biasa la, lelaki memang macam ni…” (“It’s normal, men are just like that…”).

Online Harassment: Forms and Impact

Online harassment includes name-calling, threats, doxing, and image-based abuse. It is often coordinated and systemic, especially against women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people of colour (Marwick & Caplan, 2018). Research shows that more than half of girls worldwide have faced abuse online , and that cyberhate mirrors offline prejudices (Gardiner et al., 2016).

The Power Dynamics Behind Conflict

Digital conflict isn't just about individual bad actors, it reflects broader struggles over speech, identity, and control. Campaigns like Gamergate exemplify how online abuse is weaponized for political and ideological purposes, reinforcing the need to address power structures within digital platforms (Marwick & Caplan, 2018).

Responses to Online Harassment

Legal: The Online Safety Act 2021 mandates takedowns of harmful content within 24 hours.

Social & Cultural: Humour and satire, such as the work of Hannah Gadsby, can resist abuse.

Advocacy: Organisations like the eSafety Commissioner offer reporting tools and guidance.

Corporate Pressure: Public criticism has pushed platforms to improve moderation. A 2021 Pew study found that 79% of users felt social media companies were failing to address harassment.

Corporate Social Responsibility and Influencer Support

Brands are increasingly expected to protect influencers and users from abuse. CSR in the digital age means standing up for creators, offering support, and promoting positive community standards (Littleton, 2021). Companies must recognize their role in enabling or mitigating digital harm.

CAMBRIDGE, MA—The desensitization of U.S. citizens to acts of brutal violence—an ongoing process by which Americans become increasingly inured to savagery and mayhem—is nearly complete, sociologists at Harvard’s Media Research Laboratory reported Monday. 

According to a study by the prestigious think tank, less than 3 percent of Americans retain a capacity for shock, revulsion and dismay when faced with violent dismemberment, beheadings, or other displays of sadistic, inhuman cruelty. The human mind’s ability to be disturbed by such atrocities, the study found, will most likely vanish from the American psyche by the summer of 2001, if not sooner.

“Within a short time, the sight of a blood-soaked man fleeing in terror, a hysterical woman begging for her life as she is beaten by attackers, or even a tight close-up of a shotgun-blasted, sucking chest wound on the evening news will no longer provoke any response beyond a dismissive yawn,” said Media Research Laboratory director Dr. E. Phillip Kindler. “What we had long considered a normal reaction of panic, fear or sorrow—the negative emotions traditionally elicited by such horrific displays—is very nearly a thing of the past.”

Kindler then illustrated his point by showing an audience a video clip of a man’s head exploding from the 1980 David Cronenberg film Scanners. Though the footage was considered deeply disturbing at the time of the film’s release, it evoked little more than derisive mutters of “boring” and “totally fake-looking” from the assembled crowd. One audience member was so unmoved, he consumed an entire chili dog during the once-gruesome scene.

The phenomenon of brutality-desensitization, Kindler said, was once exclusively the domain of soldiers who experienced such horrors firsthand. In recent years, however, it has spread to all sectors of society, causing a paradigmatic shift in the way Americans absorb and process images of violence.

This numbing effect, which began with the ascent of mass media around the turn of the century, has been accelerating exponentially in recent decades, aided by such genocidal atrocities as Cambodia, Rwanda and Bosnia, as well as skyrocketing crime rates at home. These factors, combined with the continued merging of entertainment and violence, from the still-popular Faces Of Death videotape series to action figures with lifelike spilling viscera, have altered public perception to the point where, in a recent study, 17 percent of participating 9-year-olds fell asleep when shown footage of Iraqi soldiers shooting Kurds in the head.

“When I was 11, I saw the famous chest-bursting sequence from Alien on HBO during a slumber party at a friend’s house,” the study quoted one 30-year-old test subject as saying. “At the time, it totally freaked me out. But today, even a kids’ videogame like Mortal Kombat makes that scene look tame by comparison.”

“In early-stage desensitization, we see a regression to ape-like responses of adrenaline and aggression, in which the violence becomes thrilling instead of horrifying,” Alland said. “But this is not what we’re finding in our research. Instead we’re finding a lot of late-stage desensitization, with Americans, unlike apes, exhibiting no emotional reactions at all.”

“Far from a nation of bloodthirsty beasts,” Alland said, “I foresee the America of the future as a society of emotionless, robotic drones incapable of empathic response. The bad news is, these drones will regularly go haywire and blow each other away with automatic weapons. But, on the positive side, nobody will really mind all that much when they do.”

Oque a faloplastia faz e não faz?

A faloplastia tem algumas opções que pode pedir para o cirurgião.

Pode extender seu trato urinario para poder realizar micção pelo falo

Pode realizar um "enterramento" da área do falo criado por testosterona ou também sem esse falo, sem retirar apenas essa parte mas fechando a genital feminina, para manter algum nível de sensação sexual na base. Melhora com o tempo.

Pode também ter ligamento de nervos com do clitóris ao invés de enterramento, mas isso apenas é realizado no estrangeiro.

Você tem a escolha, de acordo com a técnica do cirurgião, de onde vai ser que vai tirar o tecido. Opções mais comuns: acima da virilha, braço, perna, interior da coxa. Alguns desses causam uma pequena diminuição de força permanente no membro com tecido retirado, a exemplo do braço e perna.

Além das opções, tem umas coisas garantidas. Seu falo vai ter sensação de toque sim. Os nervos da área retirada vão, com o tempo, reconectar com os nervos da área de implante e causar sensação de toque. Apesar que esse toque não vai sentir como erógeno a não ser psicologicamente ou com empurro contra a base pós-enterramento descrito.

Existe uma cirurgia chamada implante peniano, feita até em homens cisgênero incontinentes, que implanta um dispositivo mecânico dentro do falo que faz ele ficar ereto. Isso pode ser ativado e desativado, e na verdade existem várias tecnicas e variações dessa cirurgia e aparelho por ser algo comum para homens cisgênero de maior idade. Na verdade essa é coberta pelo SUS em homens cisgênero desde que eles vão ao médico sobre problemas de incontinencia, então é possivel você argumentar com sua equipe médica para ter essa prótese implantada já na cirurgia, apesar de não ser procedimento normal. Caso faça no privado, eles também já implantam na cirurgia por um preço extra.

A tatuagem médica permite atingir um visual basicamente igual a um falo cisgênero devido a coloração e efeitos visuais. Ela também esconde a cicatriz da criação no falo e área de implante. Essa não tem jeito, não só tem que ser feita pelo privado quanto não existem tstuadores dessa especialidade no Brasil. Só fazendo uma viagem para fora, mas a boa notícia é que ela não é tão invasiva e pode ser realizada facilmente. Precisa achar um tatuador especializado em tatuagens médicas do tipo, por se tratar de um processo especializado. Sinceramente quem fez tatuagem médica é impossível ver diferença no falo se não está olhando extremamente perto.
