Your best guess why does lot of the Rookie cast have bigger Instagram following than CPD cast even JLS? CPD has always been the more popular show by miles even if the rookie fandom has gained lots of traction over the years maybe even higher than Upstead somehow, they still don’t reflect that in viewership!
Tbh I think you're underestimating how well The Rookie does in streaming. They outperform CPD there. CPD has a higher live viewership and I do think they still have a bigger audience overall, but it's not by miles and miles. It's a lot closer than you might think.
Anyway, the question is about their number of followers on social media. I'm not going to look up the follower count of each actor, so I'll just answer this broadly. It likely comes down to demographics and content. The Rookie hits well with younger demographics, more likely to be active online. "Younger" is, of course, relative. I'm talking your Millennials through Gen Z'ers. That's something Upstead did really well, too. They built a fan base of people who watched the show through streaming in 2020/2021, and you saw that in an active fandom across social media. Same thing with The Rookie, specifically Chenford.
In addition to that, The Rookie cast provides far, far more content than the CPD cast does (or at least has for years). People are going to follow the cast when they know they'll get TikToks, reels, photos, teasers, spoilers, etc on their accounts.
I don't know how big the gap is between follower numbers, but I'd say if there is a gap it's largely in part to those things- demographic and content.

Has Chicago Fire ever had a comedic relief scene where an apartment building evacuates into the street in the middle of the night (for a false alarm, all good) because it's funny as hell to see what state people come out in at 2am. Ask me how I know. Fire writers I have a pitch for you.

do you think it's really stupid not to give Tracy & Jesse a leading role in the same show?! They are together it would be obvious for me
No, I think an actor should be cast by their fit for the role and not their personal life.
Also, to be fair, we don't even know if they want to act alongside each other again right now. We obviously enjoy seeing them on screen, but they might be perfectly happy pursuing individual projects, and supporting each other off screen while they do.

With Tracy being the face of the series and also originating the role, do you think they made her sign one of these standard five to six season contracts? Or because she is a “bigger name” now she could’ve had some benefits in negotiating a deal?
Couldn't even guess with this one. Too many variables I'm not familiar with with the production company, revamping network, and where Tracy is at. Every time I consider an option, the opposite seems just as likely. If I had to guess, I think her contract is likely more than one season, but even as I type that I'm not sure. Waving my white flag with this one.
Edit: I've thought about this for about 15 minutes decided that yeah, she's the titular character. The series doesn't exist without her, to the extent of my knowledge without reading the books. I'm going to say they would have wanted to lock her in for multiple years.

What’s generally considered an ideal acting role now? Is it true that in the past it was considered a show that would go on to be syndicated where a lot of an actors long term money would come from to fuel their artistic interests? Hope that makes sense and ya get that it’s actually you to generalize wildly.
With the caveat that "ideal" can look different for everyone, yes syndication was the goal for a lot of actors for a long time, at least in terms of finances and security. Syndication isn't as big a factor anymore, so I'd say the more coveted roles are series regular opportunities. Better contracts, benefits, protections, pay, etc.
Artistic interests are always a bit of a wild card to me. It's really important to some actors, and less so to others. And for some, as you mentioned, their "big role" that makes them money is a good way to spring board into other projects with less promise for success, but they have a safety net now. I think some actors are restless and always looking for different, but I also see a lot that seem content to stay where they may not be as creatively challenged, but it's job security.
That's why "ideal" is such a moving target. Genre, reception, format, finances, creative decisions, personal lives, etc all influence what could be right or wrong for an actor.

So if filming lasts until mid-November is there any estimate on when we can expect it to air? From what I’ve seen the network doesn’t really follow the September - May TV season schedule, right?
Your guess is as good as mine at this point. USA Network was always a little atypical with their release schedules, as you said. I feel like I remember a lot of their shows having Summer (June/July) premieres, but there was variety.
Since they're relaunching scripted programming, they may take a new approach. I know they have The Rainmaker starting up in a couple weeks (August 15th), and the first news for that show started coming out at about this same time last year. If Tracy's show follows the same timeline of announcements to premiere, we might be seeing it sometime late next summer. That's my prediction, which can very easily be wrong.

I live in Alberta! Great job clocking the filming location. Admittedly I never heard of USA network is it kinda like a non-major network like the Oprah Winfrey Network?
Got a couch I can crash on? I'd looooove to see the Canadian Rockies.
Kidding, but yes USA Network is a basic cable network, similar to the Oprah Winfrey Network if that's what you're familiar with. They used to exist under the NBCUniversal umbrella, but have now been shifted under Versant Media, which is a publically traded company shooting off from Comcast/NBCUniversal. The Anna Pigeon show will air on basic cable, USA Network on whichever night they choose. Honestly, I don't know how that will perform in this day and age as cable and network TV are sliding down. However, I believe a streamer can pick up the rights to the show if they choose. It could be a situation where it airs on USA Network but is available on one of the streamers.

We have a chance for Jesse direct episode on it if something all parties want right?
Huh. I guess there's no reason to assume he couldn't, if everyone is on board. Maybe, who knows, time will tell, et cetera and so on.

Thoughts on Tracy's new gig?
Just, generally? Good 😂
I love to see her leading a project. The pairing with Lea Thompson could be a fun fit on set. I might need to read one or two of the books to get a feel for the story, because I'm really not sure where it falls in terms of tone or... anything. I'm hoping they give a different take on procedurals, as USA has done a pretty good job of doing in the past. I do also love that this is the kickstart of the network's scripted programming again. They're about to market the hell out of these shows so if you like interviews and all that, there should be plenty.
Really the only thing I don't like right now is the character name, but that goes back to the '90s. I'm not a fan of giving a nature-y surname to a character whose profession is in nature, and whose profession is so integral to the show. Pigeon the Park Ranger sounds like a Paw Patrol character, but I'll get over it.

Well, I have 19 new books to read, I'm waiting for a new show to watch, and a new character to obsess over.
Me? Happy.
Nineteen is wild 😂
I'm so curious to see how they pace the series- whether it's one book per season, cherry-picking from all the books and only using some stories, or kind of taking the premise and making it their own.
One of my favorite shows of all time (Psych) came from USA Network, and I loved that (at the time) the network went fairly hands-off and let the show dictate what it would be. A lot of USA shows were like that, and kind of marched to the beat of their own drum, even in a saturated genre. I expect Tracy's show will be much, much different tonally, but I hope they take the same approach as they reinvent their scripted programming.
Overall, I'm excited. I've said it one thousand times that I think Tracy was one of the best performers from her past shows, and PD especially did not use her to her full capacity towards the end. We know she does drama and angst like no one's business, but I think there will be a lot more. I'm also happy to see her in something new, something different, and something that hopefully lets her show her range.

Is it confirmed that Tracy's show is filming in Calgary?
Nope, that's just my guess! That's why I put "more than likely", because I do think it's a good chance.
Edmonton is also plausible, but based on the synopsis I thought Calgary would make more sense because of its access to the Rockies. Admittedly, I don't know the terrain of Edmonton or how in-depth this show will go into mimicking US national parks. It's just a guess right now.

Jesse isn’t filming anymore. International ended in the spring
I'm aware.
"Jesse having filmed around Europe and Tracy about to film in Calgary" didn't roll off the tongue quite as easily. Work with me here.

Seeing Katie Holmes write, direct, produce her own movies and cast who she wants makes me beg again for Tracy & Jesse to follow suit! Do you think it helps that she is a bigger name with possibly more money behind her?
I'd love to see either one of them write, direct, or produce if that's what they want to do- but yes the bigger name and access to funding would absolutely give someone like Katie Holmes a leg up. Not a dig at all and I'm excited to see Happy Hours, but that's simply how the industry works. Another hurdle is connections. You could have the greatest idea to ever be put to paper, but you have to have the connections and access to get it in front of the right people. Not saying Jesse or Tracy could never make the jump into writing, producing, or directing (more than he has already done), but it likely wouldn't be on the scale that Katie is doing, at least not to start.

All due respect but the Amy Bradley case is a much deeper, more fascinating look into what the human brain can conjure up in the face of denial and grief than it is a mystery, to me.
Also a case study for the reliability of eye witnesses- fascinating in its own right though fairly well documented at this point.
#tv musings i guess#went home for a bit and my parents wouldn't stop talking about this show#so now here i am
