This is so beautiful but also so sad and I wish I was a gnome now

i am shrunken down and brought to the gnome world and when i attempt to assimilate to their culture I use an acorn cap as a hat and they all laugh cheerfully at my silly mistake of wearing what they use as a bowl like a cap and though this is a transgression that would have humiliated me in my human life I am instead laughing alongside them at my humorous misunderstanding

Oh so you like columns huh? Name every column

So I’m mostly into Greco Roman columns which have 5 main types: Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, Tuscan and Composite. However there are additional variations between Greek and Roman variants and you can find more of my rambling about that in my #column posting tag

BUT TODAY I WILL SPICE THINGS UP! Today we will be appreciating other forms of columns. (For more photos I recommend this thoughtco article!!)

Of note, most cultures don’t really have column guidelines, whereas the freaks in Greece and Rome were like “COLUMN TYPING. NOW”. So there’s a lot more variation in other cultures!. At the end of the day, a column is just any pillar that supports a structure!

First up: Egyptian Columns.

What do you notice first? Like the later Tuscan columns, these lack fluting but they are not bald. They would have hieroglyphics or or their engravings carved in. These would also be painted but that has been lost to time :( Here’s an example reproduction. Very cool!

Persian columns are also a personal favorite of mine! They have LITTLE GUYS ON THEM!!! Much like grotesques :)

Those who pay attention might thing: wait but I thought you said columns need to be supports. Isn’t this just a pillar?

Well, it is now, but it wasn’t always!

i feel like we don't appreciate these days how much the twin towers sucked, like, design-wise

they were contemporarily hated for just being these giant grey monoliths

like there probably could've been an easier way to get rid of them, but they probably needed to go either way
