Time to tell u about another Ranpo moment of mine that comes back to haunt me every time standardised testing is brought up

I've studied Japanese for 11 years. I was the person my classmates went to for help. My family uses me as the translator when they go to Japan, I take them around perfectly fine and talk with everyone fluently, even making friends... but I cannot get a good grade on an exam. I can pass, but I could never get better grades than the people who relied on ME for help.

I make my way through life like this, I reach advanced university level Japanese. I find the assigned readings boring and struggle to pay attention in class. Outside of class... I'M READING FLUENTLY IN JAPANESE, IT'S JUST DIFFERENT BOOKS TO OUR ASSIGNED READINGS!

So the final exam comes and I've done none of the readings. I can't answer any of the questions. I go to the essay section at the back and write a fluent essay in Japanese about the book series I HAD read in Japanese. The only difference is the relevancy. Our grades come back. The teacher commented that my Japanese was great but that I should stick to studying in my free time if I'm not going to pay attention in class.

I get 5% for being fluent in Japanese and lose 95% for my essay not being relevant.

5% for knowing the language we were being taught.

I'm up to that point in my Ranpo era where I apply for all sorts of random jobs and even try to go to technical college and everywhere I go everyone knows why they're there and what they want and they try to make small talk with me about wherever we are and become confused bc my reasoning for being there makes no sense and I wander place to place on whims like a lost boy

- his waiting mode is paralysing, he ceases functioning a week before exciting events

- cannot focus if there is more than one person with him, his brain scatters immediately

- group study sessions don’t actually work for him, he needs one person to be interrogating him (calmly, not like Bakugou lol)

- when he can't articulate something he verbally keyboard smashes

- his room is held together by spot cleaning

- has a little crash whenever his meds wear off for the day and cries in the shower, then watches memes and is fine again

- one time he accidentally showed up to an event a month in advance and understandably found the venue empty. It said July 13th and he showed up on June 8th. He is so certain he read the event was on June 8th

- he regularly loses hope in studying, it feels pointless when he has to work so much harder than everyone else just for mediocre results

- he writes himself off as stupid before anyone else can and it hurts how unquestioningly everyone believes it

- has some very deeply annotated books but the notes are cryptic one-word prompts that mean nothing to anyone else that he also cannot articulate to explain

- makes stupid noises at Murr to ‘talk’ to him

- useless at communication

- if he has several different medical issues and goes to a doctor on his own he will only address one issue and get much sicker and just not care because he doesn't understand how doctors work

- accompanied to everything by Dominique or Vanitas

- has probably tried cocaine and it just 'made his brain quiet' and he was perfectly normal

- instead of making eye contact and standing still he wanders around picking up and playing with random objects while talking

- sometimes the objects distract him from conversation but most of the time he is fully capable of conversing in this manner, fuck everyone who calls it unconventional

- has a favourite rug to lie on while he reads

- when he's in sensory overload he seeks out touch, head pats calm him down

- the ocean is his sensory soothing

- his helmet is his sensory soothing

- special interest: THE OCEAN

- at any given moment he is about to explode from not talking about the ocean

- he's so quiet bc he can't talk about the ocean

- he's very gullible

- he tries so hard to think critically and not fall for tricks but any time he's sure he has it right for once he gets duped anyway

- he's the sensory shutdown type

- freezes tf up in fetal position, covers his ears, tears just stream down his face, he cannot move or speak

- being underwater is his ultimate form of sensory soothing. Baths or showers can suffice. In the absence of water he will simply wrap himself in a blanket, sensory deprivation is key

- when he finds a task confusing and doesn't want to do it he obnoxiously plays up his confusion and deliberately does everything wrong

- he thought he didn't have sensory issues but discovered that whenever he wears his lil detective outfit he's a lot less angry

- never does things in the order he's told to

- was given a textbook about interpersonal relationships: skipped a few chapters he claimed to already know, called one stupid, skipped another few chapters, threw the book out the window

- in a similar vein, was sent to a people skills class, laughed loudly at the tips provided, during the socialising exercises did caricatures of neurotypicals. Overall was an unproductive course

- when he gets sensory overload he goes the meltdown path

- in this state he cannot think, he describes it as his entire brain burning

- yells and sometimes screams, visibly distressed, seeks out the most quiet place he can find

- god forbid anything exacerbate his situation he will break it: doors, uncomfortable clothing, sources of noise etc

- the cure to his sensory meltdowns is hugging one specific plushie it breathes life and patience back into him

(things I found relatable)

1. PUTTING UR HAND UP BC U CANT FIGURE OUT WHEN TO SPEAK. EVERYONE THINKS UR WEIRD FOR IT BUT ITS POLITE AND LIFE IS FUCKING HARD

2. Struggling to follow conversation, and seeing clearer ways of communication that no one else can and getting frustrated that the neurotypicals are so obviously communicating poorly

3. Vanitas designated translator

4. Being quite blind to politics (when it comes to discrimination against himself as a vampire [and his PRIVILEGES as a vampire] and in this case against others like dhams) bc he works individual by individual instead of by social categories

5. Last of all it hurts to see the other characters calling him ignorant and an idiot all the time bc Ive been there. He's booksmart, he's intelligent, just not socially, but here is everyone writing him off as dumb just bc he's different.

Its not like he's ignorant on purpose. Of course it's important to know this shit he's learning now, and it can be done, but it's a lot harder when ur autistic and, as Vanitas said, when u grow up so isolated. Learning is a neverending process and Noé is very clearly learning and just bc he works differently like putting his hand up to speak or interpreting the world differently doesn't mean he's stupid

- loves music actually that's what he's listening to all the time

- it's like oxygen to him if he doesn't have his music he'll go apeshit

- he feels so much it's just all trapped inside him

- secretly feels like everyone's problems are stupid and only his problems are valid

- if u come to him for sympathy and he can't understand ur problem he'll just call u stupid to ur face

- immune to guilt tripping if u say ur gonna cry he'll just be like 'do it'

- someone once complained to him about how exhausting it is saying hi to ppl all the time and he said 'then don't'

- he does have rizz, he was seen using it one time and then never again

- loves planning, definitely microplans

- no matter how often ppl try to get him into planners and organisation it always fails, the planner ends up forgotten in some corner of his room

- flat out refuses to read anything ppl try to show him and claims to be illiterate

- takes up weird hobbies for dopamine

- one time perfectly picked up crochet, it was a great fidget but it ruined his intimidation factor so he only does it at home now

- there was a brief period where u could see Gojou carrying a yarn and a crochet project at all times

- "I know, I know, I'm working on tidying! I'm making DIY storage cubes to put stuff in! Just you wait til they're done!"

- prefers drinking water straight from the tap like a cat, insists each tap's water tastes different and his fave tap to drink from is his kitchen tap

Special Interests— Ranpo

- Much to everyone's irritation, his special interests do not include detective work, anything of that topic is already simple to him and therefore boring

- one of his special interests is candy

- he has multiple candy collections

- if he sees some cool candy, he must immediately buy it

- collects candy like Pokemon

- special interest in video games

- doesn't like the ones with heavy storyline bc they're predictable but finds video games the perfect level of challenging

- his lil gaming console is decked tf out

- it's charging port is like a fucking shrine

- also includes a wall of gaming accessories

- plushies.

- he has a plushie collection but it's very specific which plushies he does and doesn't like

- armed detective agency members will see a plushie they think Ranpo might like but they know to send a picture of it to him before they buy it and half the time he will say no for mysterious reasons

- no one knows his plushie criteria

- his bookshelves are filled with plushies instead of books

- retains nothing ever

- Kugisaki started choosing outfits for him once he moved to Tokyo so he wouldn’t take as long to get ready, she lays them out before bed like he’s a kid going on school camp

- searches for things that are in his HANDS

- sends messages without realising he hasn’t finished them

- gets distracted by other tasks in the middle of tasks, ends up tidying his phone’s email inbox on his bedroom floor when he was supposed to be cleaning his room

- very little situational awareness

- grumbles at anything that doesn't give him instant gratification

- Gojou tried to teach him crochet and Yuuji threw a tantrum when he didn't immediately get it right

- "but that takes SO LOOOOOONG!"

Also just wanted to let y’all know I’m literally living my best worst Ranpo life, I have a bachelor degree and speak three languages but couldn’t pass any job interviews by of my personality so I’m stuck in a retail job that doesn’t suit me at all and I’m terrible at everything except the order packaging at which I’m a fucking machine of efficiency but my boss never lets me work there and refuses to acknowledge that my niche extreme talent speeds up the company sales and that I just won’t fit the mould they want me to and that they can’t value my talent by numbers or KPI they have to see it with their eyes but they refuse to bc their eyes won’t give them fucking numbers so I’m just stuck being forced to fuck up everything else that I’m not good at and I’m just waiting for the day I get fired
