Her hand is cold on his cheek. Colder than he remembers it being. Her eyes, now that he looks closer, are dull. "I'm sorry, Claude. I should have told you the truth when we reunited, but..." She sighs and pulls back, looks out to the rising sun whose light reflects the unnatural paleness of her skin that he hadn't noticed before. "I died that day... when I fell from the cliff. And when all is said and done.... it is to death I must return." (sothisbound :3)
“ — What?” he breathes, disbelieving.
Until it hits him how frigid her skin is, and he sees her vacant gaze and sickly pallor that seem to have come from nowhere, as suddenly as a simple cold.
“No.”
…
“No!!!”
He seizes her hand and presses it to his warm face again, as if his sheer ferocity and defiance will bring the warmth of vitality back to her.
“You’re alive, gods dammit, you’ve been alive all this time!”
