Many people asked for an actual adequate summary of Lamarr's story, but I'm tagging @gooberiski specifically because I got asked to yap on here :), so without further ado ...

On Lamarr's heritage, and meeting Leo

Lamarr's heritage is messy, and the Hidden City Council has always had a bone to pick with it.

Historically, sirens have posed a threat to public safety across all Hidden Cities. The reason being the way they inherently operate, detailed in this document on siren biology. Because Lamarr's biological parents were killed by an angry mob (a story for another post) in the Pirate's Bazaar, the egg he was in was given to family friends, a gay human/yōkai couple, and they lived a happy life until his early teens. During a protest the three of them attended, Lamarr was lost in the crowd (also a story for another post). Unable to find her parents again, she quickly found out her siren powers both granted her protection against people who would do her harm and allowed her to get higher up in the criminal circuit (mainly smuggling activities and information brokering). This was at the cost of becoming incredibly lonely, something his siren biology was not happy with. Big Mama saw this, and they struck an allegiance: Lamarr becomes a sponsor for the Battle Nexus in return for a champion of his choice to take home. This goes on for a while, until the episode Shell In A Cell takes place, where Lamarr attends the wrestling matches out of boredom. Something about watching Leo brought a sparkle back to his eyes, even moreso when Battle Nexus: New York takes place and finds Leo participating in the very contest she helped fund.

The problem was that, convinced they lack a certain social skill required to talk to him, they spend a few years pining, scheming, and even making a few attempts at curbing their loneliness with other people. It was only after the Kraang invasion happened that Lamarr came up with the perfect scheme:

Hire Leo to be their bodyguard.

Now, despite being socially off-putting, Lamarr is an incredibly charismatic individual - the siren powers allow for him to manipulate people to the point that no harm will come to him even when faced with the angriest yōkai on the planet. Anything with a biological body can be affected. It requires a lot of mental prowess and concentration to break away from this. By no means does he ever need a bodyguard, he's only kept them around to keep up appearances or because it was someone to entertain him and spend some time with. This causes him to have many employees with little purpose who hate his guts. (Usagi is one of them.)

Leo doesn't know this, though, so Lamarr strokes his ego enough for him to agree to become her bodyguard. She sweetens the deal for him and his brothers by offering a magic catalogue of mystic objects with their exact locations at all times, so that they may fight mystic based crime more efficiently. This works and for the next months, all they really do is go on dates, where Leo becomes hypervigilant - not only did the Kraang invasion do a number on his ability to have carefree fun (though not entirely absent, either), the fact that Lamarr works with Big Mama of all people makes her a threat.

This culminates in one last job, where Lamarr breaks into an old magic shop that he tracked down - it was owned by his grandfather, and Lamarr is desperate to find any relatives that can tell him the full story of his biological parents. They find an incantation on the wall, and summon the ghost of her grandfather, who is... extremely angry, blaming sirens for all his suffering and the poisoning of his bloodline! Together, Leo and Lamarr escape the shop, and Lamarr is visibly upset. He tells Leo the job is over and he can leave, but by this point, Leo feels bad for him. By this point, he can tell Lamarr isn't at all a bad person, and they agree to become normal friends, and go on normal, non-bodyguard dates down the line. By the time they're both 19, they're well and truly romantically involved.

They're also the most annoying couple on the planet - they're a couple of divas with little regard for their own safety, but can't stand when the other gets hurt. They won't be apart, for better or for worse, and in apocalyptic aus this is especially evident. In the good end though, Leo helps Lamarr find out about his parents through employing the help of Hueso and Piel, because they know the history of the Pirate's Bazaar better than anyone. Hueso even helped in the conspiracy, but Leo and Lamarr convince him to spill the beans, and he takes them to Piel for the detailed tale. Lamarr is upset to hear about it all, but it gives him closure.

There is an epilogue I'm working on where Lamarr is married into the Hamato family, and in order to unlock and channel ninpō, he has to undergo a few trials, one of which involves summoning the ghost of his mother. This gives him further closure, as he is able to speak to her for a while before saying a proper goodbye.

Lamarr sounds like such a cool character! A siren and a turtle combo for a genderfluid character—you might actually be cooking there. And, if you want, I would LOVE to hear about Lamarr and turtle sirens (my interest is piqued)! I love hearing about people's OCs and drawing them in little scenarios for fun with the turtles because I dont have any proper OCs myself :`DDD. (btw you dont have to if you want, dont worry! so a while back I made a “how-to” for how I render gold for shits-n-gigs. Recently, I had to reference this myself because I straight up FORGOT how I paint gold in the middle of working on a commission.

Figured it would be fun to share, if yall want to know my gold painting secrets (spoiler, im very lazy and just want the fastest and dirtiest way to get something done. and for me, this is it)

Here is my no-fail, 10 step (it sounds like a lot, i swear its not) method:

1) Draw thing

2) Ink thing. When inking I draw big “I” shaped black chunks on metal stuff. Usually I’ll put one thick and one thin next to each other. If I’m being especially lazy, I will literally just draw a black scribble in a vauge I-ish shape.

3) Flat color block. I usually go for a mid-tone yellow-ish color. Not super saturated.

4) Shading. Use a more saturated color several shades darker. I focus the shading around where I inked those black “I” shapes. I wrote to be mindful of a light source, and this is what you should do. But I’ll be honest, I usually just shade around the edges.

5) LIGHT. Use a bright saturated yellow color. I usually pick one and then color adjust as necessary once it’s blocked in. Catch the rims/edges of objects. I usually use more of those double “I” shapes in the middle.

6) SPECIAL EFFECTS BAYBEEE. Douplicate highlight layer. Set it to “Add.” Use gaussian blue until it glows to your liking. Adjust opacity as you like.

7) ONE MO ‘GAIN. Repeat step 6. Set to “Color Dodge.” Adjust hue/opacity as you like.

8) Futz around till you like it. I like to add more color dodge above the ink layer to brighten some spots. This is optional.

9) Corrections. Assuming you’re working on a non-white background, those Add and Dodge layers will show over the edges of your lineart. This is where I take a soft airbrush eraser and remove what I dont like.

10) Final futzing. Sometimes I’ll add a dark blue Overlay layer to reduce saturation and increase contrast. Added some “shinies.” To do this draw some thin cross-shaped lines that taper at the ends. Duplicate layer. Change layer mode to “Add.” Use Motion Blur in the same direction as the cross long-ways.

AND YER DONE CONGRATS. Are there better ways? Eehhhh probably. Do I use them? Nah. This is what works for me and my work-flow, so feel free to try it out if you want! ✨✨✨

Hi! How are you? This is my fan kid from the Ramona ship in ROTTMNT. Her name is Irrilia, and she's the daughter of Raphael and my version of Mona Lisa. As you can see, she takes after Raphael more than Mona Lisa—like father, like daughter! Heheh.

AWW LOOK AT HER, SHE HAS HER DAD'S SNAGGLETOOTH!! Irrilia is such a nice name for an oc, and she's just so ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!

And I finally finished something! I finally realize how much time making comics takes when you don't know how to make them. The amount of drafts I've doodled in the middle of physics classes is concerning.

And, as you've properly noticed, this ISN'T the 'next part' that I initially promised but rather a prequel part instead. I wanted to flesh out the scene a little more before getting into the juicy parts, so unfortunately, it's going to be another while before I finish the next part (for real, this time).

I'll be pretty busy for the week because I have exams, so just be patient, and I'll try to cook up something nice soon enough, all wrapped up in a bow.

A little something to show that, no, the comic is not gone, and no, I am not intentionally avoiding finishing it.

On the contrary, I am working hard to get this done before exam week, which is next week. Doing comics in the middle of one of the busiest weeks in our school was probably straight-up stupid and very irresponsible of me. I should've waited for Christmas break.

She's the little shitnugget I came up with as a fan child between Raph and my self-insert (Her name's Esme, ask for more lore if you want pooks)!! And for angst reason, I made her act as if Leo and Mikey were reborn into the same body!! Anyway, her most recent ref-sheet is below, and the one below that is the digital one (good for color-pallette)

This is the first time I've seen an OC with so many medical problems like, is she okay?? How is she standing right now?? You might be cooking a little too hard with the angst potentials, sweetheart.

Remmy looks like such a cutie pie (like her dad), and her personality being a mix of her uncles is such a neat little tidbit. She was pretty fun to draw, especially the little designs in her mask.

I'm very happy with how she turned out, so I hope you like my version of Remmy because, what the hell, she looks so adorable!!

Hey! I was wondering if you’d be open to drawing another one of my OCs — she’s an octopus woman. Even just a portrait of her face would help me get a better sense of what she looks like. I have some reference images if that helps, and of course, take all the time you need! I totally understand you must be super busy with school, so no pressure at all — I’d really appreciate it, but I’ll completely understand if you’re not able to take it on. Also, if possible, could you highlight her mouth a bit? I’d love for her to have sharp teeth.

I am so sorry if I ended up butchering her hair—no, her entire design—because I've never drawn anything with tentacles, much less anything with sharp teeth. This whole thing was an entirely experimental process, and I must say drawing teeth is pretty fun. Tentacles, though? Not so much.
