Fasting tips!!
First you need to establish your goal. Most people fast to engage ketosis, but what actually is it? Ketosis is a metabolic state where your body is running on stored fat instead of day to day carbohydrates! This helps decrease fat, so that’s what makes it so desirable. It can also help reduce cravings (ketones naturally suppress appetite, Helps preserve muscle(with adequate protein), improves blood sugar levels, and can actually help people suffering with epilepsy, PCOS, and improve mental clarity!
After fasting or eating a keto diet it may be hard to tell if you entered ketosis, but here are some ways to tell: Fewer cravings, more energy (after a few days), Keto breath (metallic-y Idk how to describe it), weight drops (at first mostly water weight trapped in the carbohydrates in your body), and you can also test with ketone urine strips and blood meters .
In this community obviously the goal is to eat very little (so not all benefits may not be as visible), so it’s common to see things like water fasts. Although it is possible for long stretches of time (382 days being the world record) It isn’t sustainable.
If you’re a few days in you may be feeling extremely hungry, but there are ways to eat without ending your ketosis period. You don’t only have to drink water, most diet sodas won’t disrupt your metabolic state, but some artificial sweeteners can. (aspartame and Sucralose have some scientific backing to potentially disrupt ketosis by triggering insulin) Certain proteins, vegetables, fruits, and nuts are all keto too! (It is important to note to get the effects this community desires you must eat sparingly, and across a longer period than usual. Eating intuitively during an extreme keto diet will help you drop weight the quickest)
There are some negative side effects to note too, as always. A lot of people experience something called, “Keto Flu” the symptoms are: Headaches, fatigue, nausea, and brain fog. It should pass in a few days if you drink a lot of water with salt or electrolyte packets.
The following is basically food groups that have keto friendly foods, but please remember if you want the massive changes in weight and desired results eat sparingly, slowly, and intuitively!
Proteins:
Eggs (boiled, poached, scrambled)
Chicken (thighs, breasts, wings)
Turkey
Salmon
Tuna
Sardines
Mackerel
shrimp
tofu (watch carb count)
Fats and Dairy
Avocados
Cheese (Cheddar, mozzarella, goat cheese, feta, and certain cream cheeses)
Sour cream (Check carb count)
Sugar-free mayonnaise
Coconut oil
Olive oil
Low-carb veggies
Spinach
Kale
Iceberg lettuce
Zucchini
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Mushrooms
Asparagus
Green Beans
Cucumber
Nuts and Seeds (In moderation!!!)
Almonds

Drinks
Water (duh)

Tea (Herbal, green, or black. avoid adding sugars at all!)

REMEMBER TO CHECK FOR CARBS OR SUGARS WHEN EATING THROUGHOUT KETOSIS
I love combining STEM with my eating so let me know if you guys want a deeper breakdown or recipes I really enjoyed doing research on this!!!

Tips for fasting!!
this post is purely based off stuff that has helped me, i cant actually say any of this will 100% work for everyone
water
water is LITERALLY your best friend. like no calories AND keeps you full? hell yeah. overall water is a very good source of staying healthy while fasting. make sure you stay hydrated!
distractions
distractions are obviously something you need while fasting, otherwise none of us would be making it past even the first few hours. working out or even just getting chores done around your house is a great way to distract yourself while also burning any calories from meals or snacks eaten before your fast.
electrolytes
electrolytes help SO much while fasting i swear. any imbalances are what cause those "average" symptoms to come on like 10x worse. pounding headache? thats probably an electrolyte imbalance. random cramps? definitely an electrolyte imbalance. muscle fatigue? ELECTROLYTE IMBALANCE!!!!! please please PLEASE make sure you are getting a good source of electrolytes, you can get those little electrolyte packets from cvs at like $10 for a box of 10-15 packets (at least wear i live and depending on brand). and most of them are 0-5 cals per packet so its a great choice even when youre not fasting!!
i would add more but there's really nothing i can think of, if anyone has any ideas feel free to comment them so i can add them!
good luck fasting!! <3

my tips for ⭐️ving and @na
- green tea, black coffee, apple cider vinegar drinks (!!!!!!!) and zero sugar sodas are your friend. they can act as a substitution for food cravings
- watching my 600 pound life
- listening to chewing sounds realllyyyy grosses me out and makes me lose my appetite.
- if I want to try something tasty: chewing it up & spitting it out.
- drinking lotsssssssss of water
- water flavorings help if you’re like me and you don’t like the taste of plain water sometimes.
- walking instead of eating
- buying healthy food that is boring and has little taste, ex. almonds, pre-cooked beets, boiled eggs, (though to be fair I do really like boiled eggs lol) kale, etc. even if you do give in to a binge, it’s likely you won’t be very motivated to eat much, and even if you do, it will all be healthy.
- i cut out meat for several years which helped with keeping my weight low, but I was also deficient of a lot of vitamins so this wouldn’t be my go-to for trying to lose weight.
- keep food in a locked compartment if possible. if you give in to cravings, the process of unlocking the compartment will give you more time to decide otherwise.
- sign up for those automated text messages that are intended to help you quit smoking. some of the messages are ambiguous enough to be used as starving motivation. any time I start to feel food cravings, I text the code word and they give me a message to help me continue with my fast!! I’ve been using the EX Program.
EDIT: y’all have been so nice and have given some wonderful tips, so I’ll add them here!
- @iwannagohomeandwatchamovie suggested watching nikocado avocado in addition to my 600 lb life
- @guardiansleipnir pointed out that being vegan means that nobody thinks twice when you deny food offered to you
- @purfextfox had a really good tip, and they put it so well that I’ll just leave how they put it word-for-word: “If you aren't eating meat, add nutritional yeast to your diet. It has readily available B vitamins you need. Much easier for your body to absorb than supplements. You can add it to pasta, rice, popcorn, on top a bagel thin with light margarine (I use butter). It also has some protein in it, I think 5g per 2 tbsp (15 calories)”
- @babygirlblogger added that you should have bowel movements before it gets dangerous, requiring surgery. In general, not having bowel movements for longer than 3 days-1 week is dangerous.
- @morgannx3 added that nicotine is an appetite suppressant. I wouldn’t suggest anybody take up smoking, and even though I smoke herbal cigarettes (that don’t contain nicotine) I wouldn’t recommend those either because of course any type of smoking is still going to provide health issues, but it is something to consider if you already smoke!
and here’s some things I remind myself for motivation:
- you’ll have no/low periods
- you’ll be able to spend your time doing stuff other than eating
- taking nice walks and appreciating nature if possible
- being so skinny everything looks good on you
- pushing your limits, seeing how far you can make your body work for you. it’s exciting, and gives me a lot of energy and motivation, knowing that if I can harness my own body and instill discipline in myself, there’s many other things I could be capable of.
- drinking water is healthy for you
- eating healthy food
- saving money on food for other things you enjoy
- bones are beautiful
- exercise is good for your brain, improves cognitive function
- the feeling of cleanliness that comes from being completely empty, and having no bowel movements for days on end. you save money on toilet paper 😉
- being able to train your body to be able to go for long periods of time without food, which is helpful if you have a job or go to school
- sharing food with others so you don’t eat it yourself is a nice thing to do, a generous gesture.
- sleeping instead of eating ensures that you’ll always get a good, healthy amount of sleep
xx

I think about you a lot.
All the time, actually.
In the morning, at night,
in the middle of my day. It's you.
It's just always you.
