Also like. That scene with "In every other universe [...] and in every other universe it doesn't end well," is genuinely such a testament to how much Gwen feels safe being vulnerable with Miles.

Like, she's willing to bring up the idea of being in a relationship with him (in a roundabout way) despite how she's not comfortable being in a relationship with him yet, and despite the fact that she definitely knows he has a crush on her. She trusts him enough to not cross her boundaries even when she's broaching a topic that could easily be perceived as an invitation. She knows Miles will stop if she tells him to.

And beyond that, they weren't even talking about romance before that point. Gwen brought it up on her own. What they were talking about was Gwen's friendships with Hobie versus Miles, and how they're different. And then, before that, talking about how much Gwen likes talking to Miles (he's just a really emotionally intelligent guy).

Which makes me think her reasoning for bringing this (Gwen w Spider-Man) up is because she wants to hear Miles's feedback on it. I'd imagine it's been something that's been causing her a lot of turmoil (obviously). And I think the reason she came to see Miles, why in her mind Miles is "different" than her friendship with Hobie, and worth breaking the Spider-Society rules for, is because Miles gives her a lot of mental clarity. Miles knows that--he's got her number about it, right?

Gwen's not good with feelings, but she trusts Miles to help her find her footing in it. Even in situations where he clearly has a bias towards something she doesn't want at the moment, she trusts him to help her work through it. And that's so much, coming from Gwen.

So, ATSV anniversary. I ordered ATSV's artbook (so it finally reunites with ITSV on my desk).

There's no words to describe the way Spider-Verse makes me feel. Anytime I see it mentioned anywhere (when I'm not really expecting it), my eyes got wet without me even thinking. SV is just such a powerful movies on so many levels. Whenever I feel lost, whenever I feel like there's nothing to live for, I look up for Spider-Verse. It calms me down, it makes me feel at peace and at home. I really don't know why it has that effect on me, but it's just how it is.

Spider-Man in general became my number one safe-thing. And I'm extremely grateful to every creative mind who is ever stood (standing and will be stand in the future) behind this character and everything related to them. Thank you, every Spider-Man and Spider-Woman character. I love you times infinity. Thank you, Spider-Verse movies. Thank you comics creators, thank you movies creators, thank you, all people of all Art.

But ig my biggest wish on BTSV is to see everyone happy at the end. After all the trauma, pain, feeling of loneliness and not-belonging Miles and Gwen just deserved to be finally happy. So I'm really hope we'll see more of their smiles and laughter!!

One head-canon I've always had about Spider-Verse ATS...

Intro:

It comes from my only "dislike" - cause it's not a big deal - about the movie. Which is the weird idea that every Spider-Person is on board with the plan to let canon events take place.

Granted, the assurance that the Universe is dying because of it is quite the deterrent, however many agree it is the only thing that feels "off" for the characters.

I'm absolutely on board with the idea that Miles can remind everyone what's up, and I'd love that for him, but that still doesn't answer how everyone got there.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone already said this, but I didn't look, soooooo it is technically an original thought of mine... That I've had since the movie came out but never shared, so better late than never I guess.

- Actual Theory:

I think that the Spider Society recruits are all fresh after a big canon event - or maybe most are - probably not on purpose, but it has indirectly helped the cause and reduced resistance after the exposition dumb about their multiverse.

Gwen was recruited after one, and although it wasn't through a malicious way, it technically did happen to line up.

Spectacular Spider-Man, who for many is a perfect Spidey, also shares the Society's goals, which as seen in lots of fan art, sits oddly with people. What if he also just went through a Canon Event?

Peter B. Parker being an older more experienced Spidey could simply agree out of weariness, but I don't disregard the possibility of something happening to him either.

When Miles insists that Spider-Man always does both and Peter replies with "not always", I could see it also come from a recent scar, even if the scene is clearly referring to his monumental existing experiences.

"If it wasn't for Uncle Ben most of us wouldn't be here".

Maybe so, but that just sounds like an excuse at that point. One than in most Spider media would be pointed out, even if the statement is correct and valid.

- Counter Argument:

I don't think having this confirmed is necessary for the story, especially given that on its own, it's already a good exploration of grief and pain persisting even after the immediate shock has passed. As well as a lovely challenge to the Spider-Mythos.

They deal with monumental amounts of trauma, it's okay if they feel comfort in understanding a shared pain and even in the idea that by - in this case - inaction, the sacrifice of one cop, one father figure, one uncle, one aunt, one friend, one lover... Is vital to the safety of a whole Universe.

Now that makes their deaths feel like they weren't for nothing huh?

What this scene means for Gwen - Another reason she can't go home: Going home will kill her father.

[A SHORT essay about one of the effects of Miguel's propaganda]

We all know the scene where Miguel explains canon events - and he specifically focuses in on ASM-90.

In the hologram he's shown, Miles hears Spider-Man mention Gwen's last name and immediately looks to her.

Only to find that Gwen is not at all surprised.

Gwen already knows this information.

Gwen is already aware that she's destined to be an orphan.

Gwen is aware that the only thing keeping her from having canon events - is the fact she can't go home.

If she were to go home - according to Miguel's explanations, there's only two things that can happen.

1) her father arrests her.

2) her father accepts her. she moves back in. he dies because she comes back

Gwen LITERALLY cannot go back home.

She can't or else she'll be putting herself or her father's life at risk.

Objectively speaking, working for Miguel is the only way she can prevent her dad's death. Miguel has told her that canon events are inevitable - since she can't stop them the only choice she has is to hit pause on her life.

I mean look at her face when Miles confronts her.

When Miles presses her and says 'So you're just going to do nothing about it?', the words visibly hurt Gwen.

She genuinely feels like there's nothing she can do. Even if her father accepts her - he's only bound to die, right?

It isn't until Miles challenges Miguel - and Gwen is literally forced home - that she considers different.

THAT'S WHY GWEN CAME HOME AND TRIED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY

Gwen gets back to her house, and seeing her dad asleep, tries to leave out the window again. She knows either way, she can't speak to him and she can't stay.

It's only when her father wakes up and catches her - and tells her he's quitting - that Gwen realizes that Miles is right, and canon events can be avoided.

Had Miles never done what he did, she would've never been forced home.

She would've gone on believing that if she goes home, the canon events that have literally been ruining her life would start again.

Gwen knew she's destined to be an orphan. She believed that going home would be either dangerous for her or literally deadly for her father.

She already feels like Peter died because of her - and now if she even goes back to her universe her father will die because of her as well.

That's another HUGE reason Gwen literally cannot leave The Spider Society.

She's avoiding canon events just as much as Miles is. Except her panic response is flight and his is fight.
