This week, I started a solo game using FORGE and the Ghostwalk campaign setting from Dungeons & Dragons, 3rd Edition. I created a dwarf mercenary character named Rugur. Rugur's adventure began in Throngeth, Bazareene, a city built upon the top of ancient dwarven ruins (and the perfect backdrop for a "roguelike" dungeon crawling campaign).
Those familiar with the setting know that death is not the end for characters in the campaign. In the city of Manifest, ghosts can take physical form as eidolons. I wasn't concerned with using all of the eidolon feats in the book, but I figured once Rugur kicked the bucket, the traits of the eidolon "template" would translate easily enough into FORGE.
Anyway, part of what makes a Ghostwalk campaign fun is finding out how your character dies before crossing over to the other side.
In Rugur's case, it was a dire weasel. A frickin' dire weasel. Those things bite and don't let go.
Huzzah!

When I solo with FORGE (Fantasy Open Roleplaying Game Engine), I use Basic Fantasy for monsters and additional rules. All of Basic Fantasy's rules, supplements, and adventures are free online.

I have gotten behind on my Blackmarsh project, as well as the projects I am working on for my other blogs, because F.O.R.G.E. (Fantasy Open Roleplaying Game Engine) is just so much damn fun. My Greyhawk solo journal is filling up fast!
I'll get back to Blackmarsh soon, though. Thanks for stopping by!

F.O.R.G.E. (Fantasy Open Roleplaying Game Engine) is an astoundingly good solo TTRPG engine. I've momentarily put down some of my other projects to bring F.O.R.G.E. to Greyhawk.

F.O.R.G.E. combines the best parts of the Mythic Game Master Emulator, 2nd Edition (random tables) with the Ironsworn roleplaying game (settlement and quest development tools) for OSR and B/X compatible games. F.O.R.G.E. also includes rules for domains, mass battles, and downtime activities like crafting, alchemy, and even gambling in a slim reference book.
I will continue to run my Blackmarsh campaign with Iron Falcon Rules for Classic Fantasy Roleplaying and the Mythic Game Master Emulator, 2nd Edition, but I have also begun a Greyhawk campaign using Iron Falcon and F.O.R.G.E.
The Greyhawk campaign is turning out to be a slice-of-life about a hunter named Emrik who lives near the city of Ravenspire, in the Theocracy of the Pale. In my campaign, one campaign day corresponds to one real-world day, which is an idea I got from learning about how early OSR games were played. I can't wait to begin sharing my new adventures!

SKELLINGTON RPG: FIGHT IN AN UNDEAD ARMY, MAKE PUNS, PLAY A TROMBONE
A microRPG I cooked up on lunch break at work based on an old wint tweet. Honestly I like the system and wouldn't mind doing more one shot stuff with it.

When I rolled the rumor about the stolen horse from The Book of Random Tables by Matt Davids, I knew I had found Odus's heart. There's no way in hell Odus is letting some thieving ne'er-do-well take Hendrick.

Odus the Mage, Session 3 Notes
That evening, Odus heads to The Wise Shark for a drink.
"Woof!" says the barkeep when he sees Odus's bruised face. "Did one of your spells backfire on you?" he asks.
Odus regards the barkeep with a tired glance. "I was mugged. My purse and my dagger were stolen. I had to sell Hendrick to Ol' Marlin just to get clothes for the Duke's banquet."
"Duke's banquet, eh? Funny. I wasn't invited."
The joke goes over Odus's head, who begins staring into his wooden cup.
"Funny you should say you sold your horse," says the barkeep. "One got stolen from the stables last night."
"What?!" exclaims Odus after spitting out his sip of ale.
"Aye," the barkeep continues. "The stable boy got hit over the head. Maybe it was one of the fellers that did that to you," the barkeep points at Odus's face.
"Was it a brown riding horse with a white patch over his eye, the size of my hand?"
"Huh? Oh, the horse. Yes, that's the one."
"Son of a bitch," Odus mutters. "I'm going to get that horse back."

Odus the Mage, Session 2 Notes
The next day, a bruised and battered Odus sells his riding horse to afford new clothes and a new dagger. While Odus is in the marketplace, he overhears a rumor about some dock workers finding dragon scales washed up on the beach. Excited by the prospect of finding a valuable spell component, Odus immediately heads for the beach.
Odus does not find any dragon scales at the beach, but he thinks to follow up with the local dock workers. When Odus inquires about anyone finding dragon scales, a pair of workers seem all too happy to show Odus what they found: a gorgeous blue dragon scale. The scale shimmers like a sapphire in the sunlight.
Odus explains that a blue dragon scale will usually fetch about two or three gold coins in a magic shop, but he'd part with five gold coins if the men would be willing to hand over the scale (Roll Under CHA = Success!). The dock workers beam as Odus hands them two gold pieces and five silver peices each, while he pockets an item that he knows would fetch one hundred twenty-five gold pieces from the right buyer.

Ghost of Lion Castle

I completed this brutal meat-grinder of a solo adventure in five sessions and 102 moves. I survived the adventure with the first pregenerated character, Nathel. I had 4 hit points remaining at the end of the adventure.
I will continue Nathel's adventures with the Thunder Rift series for Basic D&D.

Odus the Mage, Session 1 Notes

Odus begins play in Muncaester (1305).
Mythic GME
I roll on the City Descriptor Table. 31: "Government."
A courier presents Odus the Mage with a letter from Duke Caedwine. The Duke, famous for his love of heroes and adventurers, is having a feast, and Odus is one of the guests of honor! The feast will be in five days, which gives Odus time to buy a new outfit and get groomed by a barber.
Odus heads into town.
Mythic GME
I roll on the Locations table. 93: "Unexpected."
I roll on the Action and Descriptor tables. 77 and 18: "Prison" and "Dark."
Suddenly, the world goes dark! A ruffian throws a burlap sack over Odus's head while two other pairs of hands relieve Odus of his dagger and coin purse. Odus buckles as unseen fists punch him in the stomach, head, shoulders, and back.
Odus blacks out...
