To him, the title of 'Ultimate Princess' meant little to nothing. It may have been from his overactive narcissism, built like a defense mechanism, but Gundham saw her as no such thing; a Lady of the Dark, however, he did. With her love for the occult and all things mischievous. How she admired his Devas- she was less than scum in his eyes, where everyone else hardly got a title, nor a name. He may not realize how much that meant to her, but it mattered not. He would continue seeing her as someone of higher standards due to her interests and personality, rather than title.

His face deepened a shade of red when she said she'd enjoy his company over any meal, bringing the man further into a fluster as he pulled his scarf higher. Clearing his voice and trying to brush her comment off. He offered his time to her as an apology for putting her in such danger, though she acted like she'd enjoy it-? Truly outlandish. Gundham was silent as she stood, simply waiting for her to join him so they could walk to the canteen area- however, when she turned the conversation topic to his Devas... a whole new life was breathed into him. His face rose from the confines of his scarf, and for a second, there was a smile. A gesture of, 'wow, you really want to know?' twinkling in his eyes, before he regained composure. He found confidence in his companions, more-so than himself, and that's where his personality shined.

       "HAH! Truly, they have brought carnage upon this academy!" Gundham began, his arm lashing out in front of him, where the Four Devas took place along the bandages of his forearm to strike a pose. Going along with his naration. "You witnessed first hand how San-D unleashed the power of famine, using her charms to rob you of your harvest. Jum-P unleashed the greed of sloth upon an unsuspecting group of students, forcing them into a deep slumber. Maga-Z was confined to myself, as I don't dare let him out of my sight! He could unleash Gehenna itself upon this school if he so chose it. And Cham-P offered to stay with me as well, monitoring this plane in case any spirits decided to lash out. They've been quite busy, but with the return of San-D, all came back to me for a proper meal."

Of course, Gundham over exaggerated the play of events. Jum-P truly only found himself to the library, where a group of students chose to slack off and sleep instead of study for their upcoming exams, and the more aggressive Maga-Z also stayed behind with him, since Gundham feared he may attack others and be suspended from joining him at school. And Cham-P, well- he never truly left Gundham's side most days. However, just speaking of his Devas made quite a difference in his demeanor. He was lively again, all thanks to being able to talk about his Devas. He didn't realize it enough to thank her, but Sonia was one of the only people who willingly talked to him about such things, and it was a blessing in disguise that she cared to be around him.

While Gundham looked away from her, Sonia’s gaze was fixated on his face while he made an attempt to hide his expressions. Is he blushing? Sonia wondered, A lost animal is not so shameful, even for his talents. What would bring him such discomfort?

But as he proposed an adequate solution for her troubles, Sonia beamed as he hesitated over his words. It was her hope that, to him, she was no Ultimate Princess. She wanted to simply be Sonia, or if it brought him comfort, the Dark Queen. From him, it was the highest compliment he could bestow upon her. And for such terms of endearment, it wouldn’t do for him to be so unsettled around her.

“I’ll enjoy your company more than any meal, Tanaka. Shall we go then?” Sonia reassured him, gently getting to her feet before smoothing out the wrinkles in her uniform left by San-D. After placing her book and her water bottle back in her school bag, she turned to him with a smile. “Tell me, what mischief have the other Dark Devas of Destruction gotten into today?” Asking Gundham how he had spent his day so far would have likely been a futile attempt to start a conversation, but she found him fascinating. Labeled by most of their class as a herald from hell, or at least someone who chose to spend his free time with his pets than his classmates, she felt that there was likely a unique method to engage conversation: turn her questions away from him and to his animals instead. Sonia didn’t mind: it was a privilege to spend time with someone so knowledgeable and compassionate to the animal world.

FATE VERSE:

Because I have been compelled- Gundham now has a Fate verse! This falls with the Fate Grand Order series. Gundham Tanaka, the Supreme Overlord of Ice, is a Caster class servant. Infamously known for his mastery over every animal breed known to man, giving him the title of the Ultimate Breeder. However, his legend comes from tales of a man serving hell itself, spreading fear and destruction throughout the world. The Dark Overlord brought despair throughout the nations, bringing the world crumbling down around him alongside his ferral partners. He is known as one of the Ultimate Despairs of History, from the Tragic Most Awful Event in Human History. Gundham Tanaka was executed, in a twisted killing game to try and save his soul from damnation. Now, he is a servant, cruely brought back to a time of himself before he became drunk with despair, and serves as Caster of the dark arts. Having a special advantage with animal servants, Gundham makes a worthy advisary in the war for the grail.

            "Ah... So you have spoiled San-D with these treats! How devious of her, to let you sacrifice your meals for her own gain. Her persuasion is formidable!" Gundham gasped, seemingly shocked to see how San-D had gotten her way with the princess, in making Sonia give up her own snacks to please the being. Gundham was understanding though, as San-D had some sort of... power, to make people gawk and fawn over her, and give up tremendous amounts of goodies at her will. It may be one reason why he was so keen on keeping them close! They were destructive to mortals, and their easily swayed minds!

Taking San-D back from Sonia, Gundham handled her with care, and raised her to hop onto his shoulder, before she burrowed away into the depths of his scarf. Most likely to join the others. A burp echoed from within his clothing, but he was swift to ignore it. Instead, he looked back to Sonia- studied her. The near empty bag of snacks left open on the table, the fact she may starve now thanks to his own releasing of his Dark Diva- inevitably, it was his fault for her demise. His bandaged hand rose to gently grab the top of his scarf, and he held it up over his face, to hide the small blush of his shame. Eyes averting from her momentarily, while clearing his throat.

        "It is fine- It is almost impossible to resist spoiling San-D, when she is free to unleash her power... H-However, if you will, allow me to repay you by getting you more snacks. I shall accompany you to the cafeteria, and you can pick out any splendor of food you wish, at my expense. I cannot allow San-D to spread famine at my cost! So, if you will."

Her day had been rather uneventful until, during lunch, she’d found San-D happily munching away on her package of sunflower seeds. Sonia had intended to save them as a snack for after school, but spending time with the hamster was far more entertaining. Tucked away at the end of a quiet hallway at Hope’s Peak Academy, she had settled into a window seat for the past hour and a half, watching her fellow students chatter on about how to spend their weekend while San-D found herself in the lap of luxury: Sonia’s lap, that is. The tiny hamster had all the sunflower seeds she could eat and now reclined in the pleats of Sonia’s brown uniform skirt, allowing the human’s fingers to gently rub her head, back, and belly. Sonia had even taken care in pouring a small dish of water to sit beside them, in case San-D needed something to drink.

“Tanaka?” Sonia looked up at the sound of his deep voice. So did San-D, one eye opening lazily as if to say I’m really quite comfortable here, Forbidden One. Could you keep your voice down?, before burying her head into the brown fabric once more. Sonia smiled, petting San-D’s head gently. “It’s quite all right. San-D and I have been spending the afternoon making friends. I find the key is allowing her to have as many of my sunflower seeds as possible, even if I am without my afternoon snack today.”

Sonia continued to gently rouse San-D, who grudgingly allowed to be scooped up into Sonia’s hands. “Now, my dear friend,” Sonia instructed, petting her back once she had the hamster’s full attention, “Tanaka has come for you and will provide you with the best care and love. Don’t you want to go with someone who looks after you so well?” Despite San-D’s squeaks in protest, Sonia chuckled, shaking her head before handing San-D out to Gundham. “I may have spoiled her a bit…I apologize if this is not how you’d prefer she be treated.”

headcannon : THE FORBIDDEN ONE

〷 This is a HC post focused on the villainous persona Gundham set up for himself!

Gundham outwardly puts on a great spectacle of being this dark persona, and a villainous character in front of the others. From calling himself the Supreme Overlord of Ice, to controlling the dark arts, to being a vile offspring that shouldn't have been created. He sets up this evil character that gives him some grain of confidence in his existence, and he plays it out until the very end, which gives him satisfaction in his own execution.

The trigger for this persona, I would say, was the death of his mother. I like to HC that where he says he was born of an 'Angel' and a 'Demon',  he refers to his mother as an angel, and his father as the demon. An illegitimate son that was born off a false union, which guessed at maybe a man cheated on his spouse with Gundham's mother, and he was then born. To which the father had nothing to do with them, and left his mother a single caretaker. Its implied he cared for her, and that she did her best to take care of him. Feeling guilt that he couldn't even afford a toy car as a child, and that he would eat her terrible, 'poisonous' food so that she wouldn't cry from doing her best. Gundham states that losing the one thing he loved was his fall into darkness, and I believe this implied when his mother passed.

Getting to this persona may have come from his love of the occult, and how in his mind, he viewed himself. Seeing himself as illegitimate, and unwanted by his own caretakers. A burden. He viewed himself negatively from the start, and turned that into an evil persona for himself.

I HC that his mother passed away by growing ill, and blamed himself for it since he always saw her pushing herself too far to take care and raise him. This also pushes his belief that he is poisoned, and that his poison can even inflict those he gets too close with, which caused her to get ill, in his belief. He did it to her, and now all he had left were his animal companions.

This villainous persona gave him confidence, as he broke out of his shell and was able to express himself in a self-deprecating kind of way, mixed with narcissism. He truly believes he is from the Underworld, a cursed being, and loathes getting close to anyone else in fear his curse will inflict itself upon them as well, and they too will pass from his life. Even during his execution, Gundham relieved his evil character, so that the others may see him defending his deed and become the bad guy, so they would feel less guilty of damning him to his punishment.
