THINGS I LOVE ABOUT JOSIE MCCOY? She is a BLACK female. A character, who has for years, been depicted as a white woman with red hair, is being played by a black actress. Let that sink in. In fact, all of the PUSSYCATS are BLACK and their platform? Black Excellence. Black Talent. I could actually cry when I think about that.

Josie isn't your stereotypical black female character either, she isn't "urban," as we sometimes see it called- and as much as these black women do exist, it is important for popular media to acknowledged that black women are NOT restricted to that single type. 

Josie is smart as hell, she's stylish, she's ambitious, she’s talented, she’s sassy, she comes from well-off parents; And she’s not ANGRY for the sake of being angry. She’s not angry because she’s black, she’s not rude because she’s black, etc. She is written with actual FEELINGS and actual PERSONALITY. Josie has a story, just like all the the characters on Riverdale.

She's a character that I, as a black woman am proud of, and WAS excited to see. I can’t explain how excited it made me to see Josie portrayed by a black woman, let-alone to see that all the PUSSYCATS were black women. 

Riverdale needs to realize what a gem they have on their hands in Ashleigh.

Hey, writers, Don't waste the statement you made when you cast those BLACK women.

 Honestly, WAKE UP.

She deserves more screen time though.

She doesn’t want to make light of Cheryl’s situation, but she also doesn’t want to allow the girl to dwell too much- there’s got to be something a little less depressing and disturbing to focus on.
