Chapter 239 was pretty good.

Saw it mentioned in passing on Reddit and now I’m suddenly very into the idea of Re-Destro and crew joining the League. Someone wrote that it wasn’t “fear” Re-Destro felt, but admiration, because Shigaraki had truly been liberated and shown what that means to him. I was surprised that we didn’t get to see Re-Destro disappear entirely by the end of the chapter, but what if that’s not because it’s saved for next chapter but because he won’t actually die at all - instead, he’ll capitulate and choose to follow Shigaraki?

Geten will arrive at the scene soon. Let’s imagine he’ll end up saving Re-Destro just barely, but when he goes to attack Shigaraki, Re-Destro will tell him to stand down, and surrender. Sceptic is also still alive, and he’d also be a great addition to the League  (I would like Spinner to kill the Hanabata or what’s-his-name guy though). As for all the extras… Hopefully there won’t be too many left.

Gigantomachia will be there to witness it too, a defeated foe pledging loyalty to Shigaraki. Perhaps Gigantomachia himself once pledged his loyalty to All for One for after being bested in combat (since this seemed to be his requirement for Shigaraki), and it will be in witnessing this that he’ll truly feel that Shigaraki is a worthy successor.

I’m quite into this theory. Shigaraki as the eventual leader of all villains, the very symbol of fear, the person that criminals flock to, the “hero to the underworld.” Yeah, I’d like to see that, and for the Meta Liberation army to not just be fodder for League growth, but another enemy turned asset.

Shigaraki looked absolutely fantastic, almost ethereal - both gorgeous and horrifying, you can really imagine him instilling fear looking like that

Gigantomachia was, as the kids say, and as I predicted, “shook” - watch him pledge himself to Shigaraki quite soon, bowing before this small, terrifying boy king of all villains

Re-Destro was, as I hoped for in my wishlist for this arc, scared shitless

Shigaraki’s utter calm and confidence is incredibly appealing, it’s wonderful to see, I feel like a very proud parent indeed

But I’ll miss his scraggly speech bubbles

“Liberated from everything” - from morals, ethics, burdens, guilt - Shigaraki’s certainly seems “freed”

This is why I’m so opposed a “redemption.” There are ways to develop a villain without “redeeming” them you know - making them even more far gone is one of the ways, and that’s what I’m seeing right here. As highlighted by Shigaraki himself last chapter, there was a time when he could’ve been “saved” from his destructive tendencies, and up until this point, perhaps he could’ve even been “saved” from All for One’s influence - but instead of going that route, Shigaraki’s been allowed to truly embrace destruction, embrace this sort of “liberation” - he is doubling down on his desire to destroy - it’s fun, isn’t it? He won’t be reached by appeals to his backstory, he’s already come to terms with it, he’s found some kind of inner peace with this path he’s on, and he really doesn’t care about “good.” 

He is secure in his villainous identity, he’s shed his old self we’ve seen since the start, he’s gotten rid of all boundaries and gone “forward” - more soul-searching isn’t gonna change any of that now.

Overall the chapter was a little chaotic and too short but wow the art made up for it

Why can’t Geten be Touya? We don’t know that ice control is his only power - after all, as a certain Todoroki hybrid proves, dual quirks exist, and Touya-Geten would have the same genetic makeup as Shouto. Plus the fact that Geten’s ice powers have been stated to have improved pretty recently - could be that he evolved them entirely after somehow straying from the Todoroki household. The fact that Geten was singled out as a case of sudden quirk evolution/awakening could be viewed as suspicious, or foreshadowing. It’s likewise just as suspicious that he was the only miniboss of the Meta Liberation Army whose real name hasn’t been revealed (something he shares, you’ll note, with Dabi). 

In other words, Geten could potentially have superior firepower too - just not shown yet (perhaps held back, as another certain Todoroki did to spite his father).

Also to be taken into consideration is the fact that Geten’s appearance is hidden. Why is this - who’s hiding under that coat? Someone who looks much too similar to the Todoroki family that removing the hood would give it away from the getgo? Or someone who looks like even more of a charred corpse than Dabi himself?

Many people have also remarked that the Darwinian philosophy Geten spouts would effect the potential Todoroki “Dabi” Touya particularly much because of his supposed Endeavorian upbringing - or could it be that Geten himself internalised that philosphy through an Endeavorian upbringing of his own?

Moreover Dabi being just Endeavor’s bastard would still make his grudge towards the Todorokis in particular understandable, and it would also explain why neither Todoroki Shouto nor Enji appeared to recognise him during their meetings. Dabi might just be the result of a broken condom before Endeavor got into quirk breeding with Rei. Him then finding out that Geten is also part of the family might make him go all out even more, no matter his body’s limitations - making the fight more personal.

Finally, it would also answer the question everyone in this fandom have been asking for years now: “Why hasn’t Horikoshi just confirmed that Dabi is Todoroki Touya already?!” with the uncomfortable truth: because he isn’t.

To answer your question though: I don’t completely believe in this perfectly valid theory, but I do want it to be true.

Is it bad that your post about spinner losing muscle mass low-key made wanna read or write a angst spinaraki fanfic where spinner is just so lost in self loathing that he doesn’t even eat anymore and shiggy is there for him ? Should I do it ?!

You should go for it! Only way to get better is by writing, and it’s never wrong to get inspiration, so go do it!

Personally with that premise, I’d probably just write crack about Spinner being in denial about his disappearing muscle mass, and trying to prove to the League that he’s just as strong as ever. So if you wanna see something else, follow your heart, anon!
