Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
This is a book I was required to read in 11th Grade English. I loved it and now think of it as my favorite book. I find the book so intriguing because of the plot. The story is about a post civilizations life style. I also really like the style of the writing that Mandel utilizes, in the story, the author follows a group of actors in this post-civilization, post-apocalyptic novel. I like this writing style because it is fun to read and very entertaining and easy to stay engaged. I haven't had many required in school readings that I was actually interested in and wanted to read.

Interview: Ferris State
This weekend I visited some of my friends that go to Ferris state university. I decided to interview them on their favorite parts of the college and campus.
Question 1: Was Ferris your first choice of college?
Answer: Yes.
Q 2: Why?
A: Ferris was my first choice because the place just suits me. I love to hunt and up here we have so much land to do that. That is just one reason of several.
Q 3: Is the cafeteria food better or worse here than you expected?
A: Better.
Q 4: If you had to go to a different university what would you choose?
A: That is a hard question because I like Ferris a lot. If I had to pick though, I think I would go with Western Michigan.
Q 5: Why did you decide on that?
A: Mainly because I have some really good friends that go there.

Coming to MSU was so eye opening and amazing in many different ways for me. The feature of diversity here on campus has to be one of the biggest and greatest qualities of MSU for me. Where I am from, the high school I attended was not diverse at all, which was one of the things I disliked most from my school. Here there are so many different people of different cultures, backgrounds, religions, etc. It is so important to me to be surrounded by people that I am not exactly alike. Being able to have this feature at a place I love is so wonderful!

Foreign Movie
This is a movie trailer for a foreign movie, Under the Same Moon. I really enjoyed watching the trailer as I noticed some similarities as well as differences between the movies I’m used to watching. For one, the biggest difference I noticed was the background music. The music was intense yet upbeat. The movie also seemed to be very dramaticized compared to American movies. Although there were several differences when comparing the movies, similarities were still prevalent throughout. The way the characters interacted with each other seemed familiar. Meaning that could be a similarity between the foregin film and an American film.

The crisp smell of the fresh autumn air fills my nose and lungs as I begin my walk to class. It seems as the beautiful season of fall rolls around, all of my senses become engaged. With the most obvious sense being sight. Sight of the magnificent colors fall brings. The leaves turn so many bright lovely and warm colors. Water starts to have a sharp and cold look to it. Fall brings the sight of nature that is so magnificent and different from any other time of the year that it is almost impossible to even describe. The only way I can describe autumn, to do the season even the tiniest amount of justice that it deserves, is definitely through my senses. Fall has its very own distinct sight, smell, feeling, sound, and even taste. When I think of the sense of taste for this season, I immediately correlate it to apple cider, doughnuts, pumpkin pie, and every Thanksgiving dish that exists. I then think of the specific smell of fall and while I of course think of the above list, I also think of the crisp, cold air given off by the season, and how that too has a distinguishable smell. The sound of fall includes various noises, from that of a river babbling to a bird chirping. Feeling, the sense of touch, comes from the drastic temperature change from the season of summer to autumn. Especially here in Michigan.

This past Sunday, (Oct. 6) I went to Uncle John’s Cider Mill in ST. Johns with some friends. We went with an MSU organization called Delight. It was a beautiful day and a ton of people had the same idea as us; head out to a pumpkin patch to celebrate this wonderful fall weather. Since so many other people decided to spend their Sunday afternoon at the cider mill, it was very easy to observe the atmosphere and watch how people interacted with the environment around them. As I waited in a long line to buy doughnuts and apple cider, I decided it was a good idea to do some people watching. I observed families picking apples and eating doughnuts and laughing together. I noticed couples and friends having photo shoots (much like the one I had with my friends). I listened to people order a half dozen or a dozen doughnuts and glasses or gallons of apple cider. The energy at the cider mill was so uplifting and again reminded me why autumn is my favorite season.

Last Thursday (Sep. 26) I visited the Broad Art Museum on E Circle Dr. I observed the museum and watched how people (mostly students) interacted with the art and sculptures in the building. I also observed the art and what the pieces were portraying. I noticed how the workers were also observing people, probably to make sure nobody touched or broke or even took something. There was a worker around almost every corner just overviewing the tourists. I also watched what the museum go-ers were doing and how they interacted with the art. Most of them were students, like me, and mainly took pictures of the pieces, probably for a class. Some of them came in groups or with just one other person. I personally went with my cousin so I could relate to them by not wanting to go alone. The museum was overall really interesting and intriguing and I would recommend that everyone should visit while being here at MSU.

This past Sunday (Sep. 15), my roommate and I visited the East Lansing Farmers Market. There, I did some observations. I observed the way people interacted with other people at the market and with the products involved. At 12:43, I listened in on a conversation my roommate had with one of the vendors. She asked him all about the perks and qualities of being a vendor at a farmers market, along with the disadvantages. To which he replied with scenarios such as creating relationships with the consumers, but struggling with staff. There was a live band playing at the market which I also observed. I watched the way people responded to the music at the market. Some people would slowly sway and I saw some sort of bobbing their heads back and forth to the beat and rhythm. Overall, the atmosphere of the Farmers Market was one of positivity and cheerfulness. I can’t wait to go back.

“Mich State”. My roommate and I had wanted it to say “Michigan State”, of course. That was one letter and one space too long though. So we settled for this. Now, though, these eight letters seem so right to us. Like there wasn't a better phrase in the English language to use than this. The way these letters light up in our room and around our “spartans will.” flag, makes the place seem so much more like us. This little phrase we shortened feels as if it is ours and that this was the saying we needed all along to brighten up our room.
