uh oh.
it hurts, is the first thought that crosses her mind. the next is it's not that bad. even limited, she knows Grimmjow's strength isn't something to laugh at or take lightly but Orihime had been hurt plenty of times before. though her shoulder stings, the skin underneath her sleeve no doubt turning an angry red, the most she does is wince. this was preferable to having to endure a slap from Yammy once more.
what stings more is that word: useless. it briefly reminds her of Urahara and how he told her that it was best she stay out of the way so many years ago. of course, she didn't listen, not after Rukia talked some sense into her. but she knows there's no point in taking it to heart or even being offended. Grimmjow wasn't known for being overly pleasant and compared to others in this city, she was probably one of the least knowledgable around about its workings.
" That's not--" words cut off as she tries and tries to think of the best way to say this. " You can't. Nobody can!" as if that would help ease any of the anger that's practically radiating off of him. " I don't know where they are nor does anyone else here and that's the way they want it. And even if I did know and I told you, they're the ones that weakened you. If they can just pluck us from our world, what makes you think that you can beat it out of them?! "
♛ —;; " ... What do you mean," he growls slowly, the brunt of the revelation hitting him all at once. It leaves him slow to start, voice low and even an dripping with horrible, bloody promise. "You can't fix it."
The welcome committee had been given a crisp 'fuck off,' at trying to take him wherever his new 'home' was supposed to be, and that fucking 'phone' thing he'd seen people use sits as a weird weight in his pocket, a piss poor counter-balance in place of his sword. Sure, it's not his first foray into the world of the living, but it is the first time in a very long time that he feels completely and entirely dwarfed by the enormity of it. It makes him want to bare his teeth and tear.
But this woman is one of the few he's willing to be civil with, as some of thee others might have called it-- or as close as someone like him can be to that. It's the only thing stopping him from rearing back-- if he hadn't been thoroughly and entirely declawed, if she had been anyone else, there'd be blood dripping form her shoulder from puncture wounds already for such abject failure in the face of him.
That's not to say that the hold releases, or even loosens. f anything, it only tightens, snarl threatening to curl his lip. "If you're gonna be so damn useless, then show me where the hell they are- those fuckin' 'Stars'. I'll beat it outta' them."

this is what she was expecting. no matter how pleasant it was on the surface, it would be reckless if Orihime entertained the Sternritter without preparing for things to turn sour. Neither Ichigo nor Rukia were here with her this time but she would not allow herself to be hurts as a wordless promise to them.
the secone Giselle movies, her eyes narrow and before her sprouts a triangular shaped shield mere seconds before the slap could connect with her cheek, blocking the attack. rather than leave it at that, fingers grip the bag of groceries in her right hand tightly and with all her strength, she swung up and to the side, releasing her hold to let it fly. the target was Giselle's face.
it wouldn't do any real damage, but it could disorient or even throw her off her game and that was the goal. upon releasing the bag, Orihime quickly dashed backwards, creating distance between the two, poised and ready to throw up another shield.
" You're powerless here, just like everyone else."
the innocent expression slowly melts from Giselle's face the longer she speaks, eyes narrowing and lips pressing together in a thin line. Gigi had not been lying when she said she had helped, but it was quite obvious that the one good deed was but a drop in the bucket when compared with the atrocities she had already committed.
siiiigh.
couldn't avoid the inevitable.
"And here I thought princesses were just supposed to sit pretty and keep their mouths shut."

"Oh well! I can see I won't get through to you, soooo~~!" she acts fast, aiming with the intent of a nice, hard backhanded slap to her face. oh, how she hated taking matters into her own hands, but she really had no choice! if Orihime was convinced she was a monster, she would live up to the title.

impossible. absurd. downright ridiculous. her, be friends with someone that had only ever caused pain and suffering to the people she cared for? someone who revelled in it and no doubt had no intentions of changing? no. never in a million years, not while she has any breath inside of her lungs.
Orihime had a heart with the capacity to extend her hand to anyone in friendship, but even that had its limits. and this? it would be crossing the line, spitting on the sacrifices of everyone that gave their life to stop the invasion.
" Help them?"
that once cautious and worried gaze narrowed to a fine point, anger taking over her features in an almost uncaharacteristic display. " All you did was hurt them! Kill them! You and your 'friends' almost destroyed the Soul Society, tried to kill Ichigo! Why on earth would I ever want to be friends with someone like you?!"

"Waaaah--! That's ruuuuude, Hime-chan. We could be friends!" lies, lies lies-- Giselle wanted nothing to do with the woman nor the Shinigami she called her friends. in fact, there's not an inch of her that isn't screaming to rough her up a bit, give her a real reason to be afraid. oh, how much prettier she would be then, pale skin all bruised and bloodied.
but that could wait. this was the first real time they were meeting, so first impressions were everything!
(even though she can see the ghosts of her fallen comrades in her eyes.)
"You know, I did help your friends once! A lot of good that did me in the end, but I think maybe I get a little credit!"
#unxdeadly#unxdeadly 001#i am ALSO SO SORRY ORIHIME#it's fine it's f ine if she gets a little beat up that's fine!!!!!

it's like a chill running down her spine, stealing all warmth from her body.
years have passed by Orihime remembers the invasion from the Sternritter vividly. the sight of the Soul Society in ruins rang deep after witnessing what they had done to the remaining Arrancar in Hueco Mundo. if she thinks about it for longer than a few minutes, the nausea will build and her mind will flash back to broken bodies scattered across the rubble. and now is not the time for that.
not when there's one standing right before her
she hadn't seen this one personally, but it is the feeling the other gives off. a feeling that reminds her of Ichigo's battle with Yhwach, though nowhere near as....opressive. and yet, the threat of danger remains.
" Thanks." there is no friendliness in her words, nor the way Orihime's gaze remains locked onto the enemy. " But only my friends can call me that."
@heavenshield
Gigi gasps--an exaggerated, theatrical gesture with her hands cupping her cheeks--upon seeing a somewhat familiar face. they were not exactly acquainted, but the Quincy knew of her: the little princess with healing powers that rivaled her own. and that hair! orange as a sunset, just like that pesky Kurosaki kid. someone on His Majesty's special target list...in a way, they got more attention from Yhwach than she did.
of all the people from her home world to run into...
it pissed her off.
but they could be friends, no?

"Your hair is so preeeetty--! ♡" lies. she wants to yank it. she's playing dumb, of course, like she won't be recognized. "Like a nice little hime-chan."

she felt him long before she heard him. it was faint, but Orihime knew the spiritual power that drew ever so closer, determined and focused solely on her. her head swiveled to the side, wide-eyes landing on the hand gripping her shoulder. it didn't hurt much at all, but it was enough to jostle her, causing her steps to stumble as she was pulled to a halt. her head lifts as her body shifts slowly, attention landing on the Espada.
what she felt wasn't fear. no, it was more akin to troubled hesitance. if he was demanding that she 'fix' what was done to him, then that must mean he's a new addition to the city. which also means that he doesn't know how this place works and that she, of all people, has to explain it to him.
part of her wishes she had shopped earlier like intended. or that Rukia or Ichigo were here-- they could explain it much better than her. as much as Orihime likes to think she's good at judging someone's character, there was always that factor of unpredictability when it came to Grimmjow.
clearing her throat, she turns to face him fully. " Grimmjow.....I'm sorry, but I can't." an answer that will no doubt sit poorly with him. " What the Stars' did to you isn't something I can reverse even if I could. " that was a safe assumption at this point. even if Aizen had coveted her abilities once upon a time, she doubts they could deny the will of the ones who ran this place.
" Plus, I don't have access to all my powers right now, either."
♛ —;; The hair at the back of Grimmjow's neck has been stiff ever since waking up here; he's got nothing in him, a great empty void matching to that of his namesake. He can't even take to the skies, forced to the ground with too many bodies that can see him. Can't even sense how strong they are, if at all-- like every single one of his senses has been neutered.
And cornered, angry beasts don't make for the most polite of greetings. Never mind whether or not Grimmjow had ever been one to give them in the first place.
The moment he catches sight of familiar, bright hair, his steps become determined, hurried as he barks out to a figure that he at least knows.
"Oi! Woman!"
The grip to her shoulder-- Orihime, he knows, but doesn't bother-- is rough. Despite having worked together, no matter how briefly, that doesn't stop him from being who he is.
"Fix whatever the hell they've done ta' me," he scowls. "Now."

snowsleeves:
THERE’S a distinct sensation that buoys her amid this sea of confusion. Initially, she was too focused on her suppressed ability to notice it — there’s a high concentration of souls in this place, human or otherwise, and they feel muddied as a result. But two souls stand out firmly, all but demanding the attention of her mind’s eye. She would know them anywhere, under any circumstances. One of them draws closer, and the ribbon that binds them comes more into focus; her name leaves Rukia’s mouth before even spotting her in the thinning crowd.
❛ Orihime… ! ❜ Annoyance still lingers in the furrow of her brows — she had a whole laundry list of grievances already — but it ebbs away as she takes in the familiar sight. She’s grown some since they last saw each other… Has she been in this place long ? … What was this place, anyway ? They were questions that could wait. She finally remembers how to move, her legs swiftly carrying her to her dear friend — and finally she allows relief to permeate her troubled features. ❛ I felt it was you, but… I wasn’t sure if I believed it. Are you alright ? ❜
it is because Orihime is comfortable in her bond with Rukia that she shows no hesitation in quickly throwing her arms around the shinigam’s smaller frame once she was finally close enough. palms pressed firm against her back, cheek resting against midnight hair that smelled faintly of steel and lavender, a quiet laugh leaves Orihime’s lips. it had been some time since she’d last seen Rukia and, circumstances aside, there is joy at getting to see her again. and that is what she chooses to focus on for a few moments.
“ It’s good to see you again, Rukia. I missed you.” a sentiment that rang true no matter what place they found themselves in. eventually, Orihime pulls back, doing her best to try and control the smile that threatened to grow out of control. “ Yeah, I’m okay! A little confused...I’ve been here a few days already and can’t figure out what’s going on. But you’re here now and I know you feel Kurosaki-kun is here too.” and as happy as she is to have familiar faces around, there is worry that blooms in her heart.
“ It seems a bit too coincidental, don’t you think? Do you remember how you ended up here....? I don’t. Last thing I can remember was that I was heading home from the mart and then I woke up next to that big hole. “

originally, it was a curiosity. going to this ‘monster massacre’. Orihime didn’t feel any fear nor was she scared-- after all the things she has seen and experienced, zombies and werewolves and vampires lost their frightening factor years ago. she had just wanted to observe for awhile and help any who may need it, but as it is something she learned, enemies aren’t always content to let you sit on the sidelines. and so, as her gaze turns to the left, she spots one of the werewolves running full speed at her. but rather than use her powers....a plan hatches.
hands firmly gripping the handle of her giant hammer, heels dig into the ground as her body twists, taking a stance. as if she was playing baseball, she swings the hammer back and, at the exact moment when the creature is within range, she swings the hammer down and up with every ounce of newfound strength in her body. there is a loud ‘thud’ and the next thing she knows, the creature literally goes flying back into the frenzied crowd. lips part into a surprised ‘oh’ as her body relaxes. that worked better than she thought.
as the woman turns to finally make her leave, her curiosity being satiated, she spots someone on the sidelines after nearly running into them. “ Oh. I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there!” a sheepish laugh leaves Orihime as she swings her hammer to rest over her shoulder, a friendly smile present on her features. “ What’s a ghost like you doing in a place like this? “

no matter the place, the time, the world, Ichigo Kurosaki was not someone that Orihime could so easily forget or mistake.
she missed him. even if it’s only been something close to a month in her time here, it did nothing to lessen the fact that she missed him. she missed all of her friends more than words could say, but Ichigo was someone that held a special place in her heart. he always would. there was no other that could take that place. it belonged to him and him alone. so is it any surprise then, that such a place beats with warmth? that her heart feels lighter? like a feather gliding in the summer breeze. it’s easy to find him. easy to pick him out in a city full of strangers. she could recognize him by touch and smell alone, would know him blind and at the ends of the world. after all--
he was her Ichigo.
“ Kurosaki-kun.” her cheeks hurt but she cannot stop the smile nor does she even want to. her voice is soft yet light, hands clasped together against her chest. he looked okay. he looked as she last remembered him. that was good. it may be strange that she’s acting like this-- she doesn’t know of any discrepancies between their memories but that didn’t really matter, did it? as long as Ichigo was alive and okay then everything else could be faced head-on with ease.
“ You’re here. I mean-- did you just get here?”

she’s not ashamed to admit that, with each eclipse, her eyes are glued to the sky for a time and the urge to look at her phone became almost too much to ignore. she rarely did though. getting her hopes up only for them to get crushed at spotting not a familiar name aside from Unohana’s would not be good for her. no, she’d rather keep her hope and let herself be surprised. there was always a chance, she told herself. despite never wishing for them to be ripped away from home, she was human, and as such, could not help but to hope against that. but for all of her hope, she did not think that it would be answered so soon.
first is that feeling. that very specific and unique feeling she only ever had around those she loved. she could sense it. someone was here and the longer she concentrated on that feeling, the more tangible it became and without hesitation, she follows it. she follows this feeling as if her very life depended on it, forgetting her original destination as she pushes through crowds of people going about their lives. Orihime doesn’t see them right now. she only sees that invisible string that tugs her ever closer to the hole. her heart beating faster and faster as the crowds begin to thin and that feeling tells her that yes, someone is here. they are right there. all you have to do is reach out and--
her gaze zeroes in immediately. a cropping of beautiful midnight hair. a troubled amethyst gaze mixed with a hint of annoyance. it is a face that Orihime could not forget nor mistake and as her rushed steps come to a halt, words spill before she can think on it. “ Ru....kia....? Is it really you?”

it was...disheartening, to say the least. to become so used to being able to fight and protect, only to have that severly limited. Orihime briefly wonders if this is just a fraction of what Ichigo felt after he lost his powers but he got them back and after hours of looking into things here, she knows she’ll get hers back. in the meantime, she should train.....but after lunch, if the growling in her stomach is anything to go by. and as she hums a tune quietly to herself, intent on hunting down the nearest donut shop, feet come to a halt as a rather loud noise draws her attention.
blinking a few times, Orihime quickly finds the source of the commotion. someone was trying to rob a small group of teenagers. eyes narrow in an instant, one step forwards taken. from what she can see, their weapons weren’t immediately lethal. (bats, sticks, the works.) and it would remain that way if Orihime had anything to say about it.
glancing around, she spots another person who also has noticed the ruckus, meeting her eyes and for a moment, Orihime saw the look that she often saw in the eyes of her friends. someone who plans to do something. as such, she gives a nod to the stranger before her focus turns back on the group. with an outstretched hand to guide, an orange shield quickly forms between the group of teens and thieves, blocking an incoming swing of a bat.
