Soyuz meet Apollo. The Soviet Soyuz spacecraft is photographed from the window of the American Apollo spacecraft during the Apollo Soyuz Test Project, July 1975. The international cooperative space mission was a first & effectively marked the end of the space race which began in 1957 with the USSR launch of Sputnik. The 2 spacecraft launched from their respective countries on July 15 & docked 2 days later. While in space, the astronauts & cosmonauts performed crew transfers & scientific experiments. The space mission was a productive & positive accomplishment during the Cold War.
