Offering ideas for special events
That’s a topic I haven’t seen much posts about. Most likely because a lot of people, myself included, prefer to show that offerings can be quick and simple and on the cheaper side for accessibility. This post is meant for those occasions where you want to do something special, whether it is for a special event, an ex-voto or a celebration of some kind.
Holding a feast is one of the easiest grand gestures to pull off, especially if you’re already holding a party. Extras can include things like using ingredients, foods or drinks that are sacred to the deities you are honoring.
Without going as far as holding a full feast, preparing baked goods or drinks specific to a deity can already be considered a special kind of offering.
Devotional arts and crafts. The concentration, time, work and ressources put into a devotional piece are all things that are dedicated to the deity you chose to do it for.
Dedicating things of value, sentimental or monetary.
Who to pray to for specific life events?
Birthdays: Personal birthdays weren’t really a thing historically for the ancient Greeks, so there are no traditional associations so to say. That being said, on a modern standpoint, I think fate and household divinities would fit nicely. Agathos Daimon, Tyche, Zeus or the Moirai come to mind.
Weddings: Zeus and Hera especially alongside Aphrodite and Artemis. One can also consider Persephone.
Graduations: Athena comes to mind, but also look who the patron of your field is. (eg: Asklepios for the medical field, Hermes for trade etc…)
Pregnancy/birth of a child: Hera, Artemis, Apollo. Persephone and Leto are possibilities as well.
This is definitely not an extensive list but a good place to start.

I don't know who needs to hear this but it's ok if you can't hear your deities talking, whether physically or mentally
It's ok if you don't dream with them
It's ok if you can't feel their presence
It's ok, darling!
They still love you. They love you very dearly, just as much as you love them!

I’m not allowed to have flames in my room. Are there any candle alternatives I can use for my altars?
hiya!
i personally wasn't allowed to have candles for a few years either, so here are a few alternatives:
-wax melters (i think there are electric ones)
-fake candles (craft stores sell beautiful ones!)
-diffusers (you can put essential oils that represent the deity)
-a lamp or small light that represents the deity (i like thrifting these)
you can also use something of the other elements (water, earth, air) and pray over that or offer those as offerings. water was a very common offering across many different cultures, especially if it came from a river, the ocean, or a spring! air was often represented by incense, which comes in a variety of forms, but i get it if that isn't possible either so maybe try the steam of a hot coffee/tea? i know a lot of people that use their morning coffee as a time of worship. the earth could be represented by actual earth or plants, and can be given in the same way as food!

Zeus in the Iliad
Boy, the Zeus hashtag is as toxic as ever. So here’s a little idea I’ve got: A lot of people claim that Zeus is pretty much the most horrible person ever and others (rightfully!) point out that one must not confuse the Zeus of Greek mythology with the Zeus worshipped by ancient Greeks and Hellenic polytheists today. But I argue that the Zeus of Greek mythology is not nearly as bad as people make him out to be. Since the Iliad is the closest you can get to something like a canon, here are some of his positive characteristics as presented in the Iliad:
reluctant to use violence (he does threaten to use violence a few times but never goes through with it)
grants Thetis’ wish to help the Trojans (1, 523)
Athena is dear to his heart (5, 886) even though she once tried to overthrow him (1, 400)
helps his wounded son Ares even though he despises his love for bloodlust (5, 895)
considers to defy fate to save his son Sarpedon (16, 434)
comforts his daughter Artemis (21, 507)
pities Hector (22, 165) and Achilles’ horses (17, 414)

Athena in Peacetime💙
Not entirely happy with it, especially the wobbliness of some of the lines, but it's probably finished to the best of my ability right now, and it's close enough to what I was picturing that I'm pleased! 😊

Hot take but you can’t learn about paganism without also learning about white supremacy and how it uses pagan religions to push hate group agendas all over the world today. If you don’t learn about the connections between the two and how it operates, your ignorance enables white supremacists to keep on doing it and using it to recruit others. People in our community who do nothing and stay silent are literally a part of the problem, there is no opting out whatsoever. Divorcing the two makes the issue repeat itself over and over and over again.
It’s not hard to include this in your research and stay aware. It’s the bare minimum.
