personally I do not think Troll grunts count as communication. Nor do I necessarily think Trolls have Human intelligence (just far more than anyone in the Hildaverse gives them credit for)

Yall need to stop recommending me a certain fanfic. Enjoy what you enjoy, but I don’t think Hilda Trolls pass the Harkness test, so shipping them with the humans, even the adults, is within the realm of bestiality. I’m not comfy with it. Don’t do it.

This story is by @frankie-in-the-ferns, It’s a canon compliant slice of life story, and they are actively looking for feedback! (Personally I also just really like Kaisa and the Bellkeeper so this story makes me happy) as of writing this there are 6 chapters. read it here

Mum’s The Word

This funny little one shot is by @great-raven-parade and explores Alfur finding out Mum isn’t Johanna’s real name (that’s it, that’s the story, and you should absolutely read it.) Did you notice in season 2 Alfur calls her Johanna now, but Tontu calls her mom now?

Hilda and the Howling Woods

Trollberg's grown used to weird occurrences every now and then, however- a year after the mountain king's attack on the city, there's something strange going on.

The trolls have refused to head back into the woods, and now there's talk of something stalking those very same woods.

Things are about to get very interesting for Hilda.

This is Levi 2207′s first Hilda fic, and included tags for horror themes and A LOT of werewolf stuff. Honestly I rarely see authors adding other creatures to Hilda, so it’s a nice change of pace. This story is at 6 chapters and is not yet complete, happy reading!

The Magic Room

A Lilliputian Perspective

I had to double check the spelling there. This lovely bit of fluff comes to us via FF.net user Miss Lovelin, who is an HFN member (who also has her blog privated, so I can’t ping her).

Ghost in the Mirror

Of course we had to Ghost. If you are new to the fandom as of season 2, you should know that Ghost was THE big fic of season 1. It’s also about the size of a bible. It was written by our friend @ride-on-the-woff-side and published on Fanfiction.net and AO3. You can also find it as the Hilda fic with the most hits on AO3, not including crossovers.  Hilda is now 23 and working at a humanitarian zoo in Trolberg. After spotting a mysterious blue haired man at the bus stop, Hilda is left with a question that takes her on the ultimate adventure. Enlisting the help of an old friend, she sets out to find answers. Will she succeed, or perish trying? Or will she discover something bigger? (T for Mild Language Drug/Alcohol Mention) Ghost IS a Hilvid (David x Hilda) fic, but even if that ship’s not for you, I’d give it a shot anyway, it’s pretty special.

A Bump In The Night

Would you think we have a third consecutive Van Gale story in our queue? Well we do. This one is by AO3 user Smart Heart, who is a treasured HFN member (and one of our founders, AND mod Wife here) @the-hilda-librarians-wife. 

Victoria Van Gale is a serious scientist Even after her laboratory and workplace is destroyed, she remains the sort of person to look for the reasons behind everything. She likes being in control, she makes stern analyses and important experiments, and she… goes trick or treating with a bunch of kids?

This one shot carries a spooky song recommendation in the authors notes and is part 2 of the Halloween Shenanigans series. read it here

This Is Somewhere

Keeping with our current run of Van Gale stories, this one is brought to us by Great Raven Parade on AO3. They are also an HFN member over at (you guessed it) @great-raven-parade

After the destruction of her weather station, Victoria Van Gale is going nowhere fast- Continuing her Meteorological experiments is an obvious impossibility. But perhaps dropping off the grid, moving into an old, abandoned windmill, and making a new friend will be good for her! Or perhaps it will give her just the wrong ideas and lead to an invention more dangerous than her last.

A look into what Victoria Van Gale was up to between the events of The Storm and The Windmill.

This is another quick read at 5 chapters and almost makes me reconsider how I feel about Victoria (almost). Check it out here

Remorse Of An Adventurer

Remorse is a Hilda fanfic by AO3 user DaringDanger (and FF.net user D.D. Danger) @nisse-room​ (An HFN member and Mod Mori on this blog)

The story features an alternate world where Hilda’s mother passes away in the middle of season 1, and how Hilda and those in her sphere are affected by the loss. It features some dark material but is well worth the read.
