The nameless god knows the Chapmans.

They have known them for a long time, taking them, joining with them in the deep. The nameless god is lonely, and those that are taken do not fill the void as they’re too frighten of the thing that took them.

There’s something tethering the two together, curse, happenstance, coincidence, Comfrey? But never the less, the two are connected.
