This is such a cool idea. What other info could it be? Careers, hobbies, economic status, lifelong ambitions? Orientation, single/taken/etc status? Insect-style role in the hive (worker/drone etc)?
If human languages are based on primitive monkey-brain ideas of whether or not the person we’re talking about is a potential mate, then what different considerations might an alien race make?
Maybe they have two drastically different body types that need to pair off to defend from predators. Maybe their civilization depends on cultivating plants that grow best when sung to, and a range of different vocal tones per household is best. Maybe some are nocturnal and some are diurnal.
What else??
#very glad for the person above clarifying that this exists in real languages#japanese pronouns/honorifics were the inspiration for my conlang that ive had for *checks calendar* A DECADE?#i should work on it again#inspo

Non-Boring Environments that need Fantasy Representation
Tropical Rainforests
Scrubland/Dry Forests. For extra effect make them the sort that burn very often; some native plants never germinate until after a fire, and some animals not only rely on fire to smoke out prey, but may even start them themselves.
Savannas/Tropical Grasslands
Temperate Rainforests. I almost didn’t include this bc New Zealand is covered in them, and that’s where they filmed Lord of the Rings. But tbh, no one really knows about them, so it belongs here
Taiga Forests
Barren Tundra, perfect for some extreme seasonal dichotomy
Polar Ice Sheets
Desert-Grasslands (arguably the same as Scrubland but Australia’s good at adding its own twists)
Barren Desert
If you like Cacti, look at American Deserts like the Sonoran
Salt Flats
Soda Lakes and Alkaline Lakes
Madagascar’s Karst Limestone Formations

Madagascar’s Spiny Forests
Madagascar’s Baobab Forests
Madagascar’s Subhumid Forests (Madagascar is cool as hell ok)
Danxia Landforms
Badlands/Mountainous Deserts
Steppes and Highland Prairies
Flood Basalts
Newly-Formed Islands, still rife with Volcanic activity
Now for Underwater Environments, sure Coral Reefs are cool.
But there are SO MANY other kinds of environments for aquatic settings, it’s unbelievable:
Seaside Cliffs
Archipelagos. Not just Tropical Island chains like Polynesia (Moana anyone?) but also Coldwater Archipelagos like the Aleutians.
Tidal Flats
Bayous/Cypress Swamps
Tropical River Basins, AKA Seasonally Flooded Rainforests
Mangrove Swamps/Deltas/Beaches
Kelp Forests
The Open Ocean
Coastal Seabeds
Rocky Beaches with Tidepools
And there are a LOT more I could name but this post is already obscenely long as is, if you’d like to toss in your own go right ahead, but my point is if you limit yourself to European Deciduous Forests you’re a wimp.

guy who’s stuck in a timeloop for so long he stops wanting to leave it. guy who started out trying to escape but slowly grew used to and became comforted by the familiarity of the repeating day. guy who is no longer who he was before the timeloop. guy who is offered a way out and violently refuses it because he can’t leave, doesn’t want to leave. guy who escapes the timeloop by chance or force or accident and doesn’t know how to live anymore. guy who keeps going through motions that don’t match the situation and keeps having conversations that aren’t actually occurring. guy who panics every time he realizes he can’t predict the next instant. guy who left the timeloop but still lives with it.

[Image ID. The first image is a screenshot of a poem titled "Kupu rere kē". Poem text:
Kupu rere kē
My friend was advised to italicise all the foreign words in her poems. This advice came from a well-meaning woman with NZ poetry on her business card and an English accent in her mouth.
I have been thinking about this advice.
The convention of italicising words from other languages clarifies that some words are imported: it ensures readers can tell the difference between a foreign language and the language of home.
I have been thinking about this advice.
Marking the foreign words is also a kindness: every potential reader is reassured that although you're expected to understand the rest of the text, it's fine to consult a dictionary or native speaker for help with the italics.
I have been thinking about this advice.
Because I am a contrary person, at first I was outraged — but after a while I could see she had a point:
when the foreign words are camouflaged in plain type you can forget how they came to be there, out of place, in the first place.
I have been thinking about this advice and I have decided to follow it.
Now all of my readers will be able to remember which words truly belong in Anteoroa and which do not.
End poem text. All of the words in English in the poem are italicized; only the title and "Anteoroa" are are in plain text, both of which are in the Māori language.
The second image is a gif of the Futurama meme where Professor Farnsworth is on the phone saying "To shreds you say". End ID.]

Alice Te Punga Somerville, Always Italicise: How to Write While Colonised - Kupu rere kē
#poetry#this poem gave me chills and makes me want to read the rest of this author's work#gonna ramble a bit in the tags as someone with a degree in writing#colonization is something so entrenched in lower and higher education that we don't even think about it#in numerous classes#we looked at different style guides for different purposes and audiences#and every single one of them that I can remember mentioned italicizing or otherwise pointing out 'foreign' words#and since i'd seen it in books since I was four or five#I didn't question it#or even stop to think about why we needed to distinguish 'foreign' words from familiar#it was only until a couple months ago that someone pointed it out to me when I was working on a zine with them#and I realized#you know what#this IS kind of weird#so basically. really critically think about some of the stuff you've been told is 'proper' writing style or whatever#even if you think you're already doing that. I know I thought I was#anyways. this is now one of my favorite poems#and i'm going to be looking into this author

I died but I came back exactly the same. You though, I came back and you were wrong. Did the fact of my dying really damage you that much? Was bringing me back worth what it cost you? Would it have been better to just leave me?

Alright.
You ready for a hard 'tag your oc' challenge?
Tag an oc who doesn't have childhood trauma. At all. Who's family is still alive.
I'll wait.
#i have a few that fit this description but i feel like sarah grace is most notable because a lot of her character and role in the story she#is in is reliant on the fact that she is just a normal teenage girl and has a loving family#worst shes really gotten is some homophobia from classmates bc she has two dads#now her adoptive brother on the other hand#oc: sarah grace sauer-kurosawa

Listen to me I am sick of your dumb ass reincarnating as animals over and over again and coming to visit me at my house as a supposed "sign of your presence" I keep killing the things you come back as every time on purpose I do not want a dog to live here nor a cat nor a beautiful bird nor that which crawls beneath the Earth. We're THROUGH. The relationship ended when your life as a human did. I get that you want to keep this "Twin flame" soul mate reincarnation bullshit afloat but 1. I will not be returning to the cycle of death and rebirth due to my dark heart AND 2. Even if I did come back, good luck being born a human around the same time as me once more. Asshole. I'm salting the earth around my yard so that from the ground no plants may grow and from there comes no germs from plants, no bugs from germs, no birds from bugs, no beasts from birds. No you.
