A thing that deflates writers, but also, a thing that shouldn’t hold you back
Not getting the attention you want on a piece of writing that took you ages to write, and even longer to post because you’re afraid of what others will think about your writing.
Don’t let the amount of notes tell you about your writing.
They mean nothing.
Getting feedback is a nice thing, getting notes is a nice thing, getting likes and reblogs, but don’t let that defeat you, and don’t let it beat you up when a piece of writing you put a lot into doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
Don’t say to yourself, “well, I’m not going to post my writing anymore.”
Don’t say, “It isn’t worth it.”
Everything you write, everything, is a passion, whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, fanfiction, short stories, etc.
Writing itself is a passion, and though attention is nice, the one thing that’s going to matter in the long run is how you view your writing.
So, sit down.
Write.
Talk to that fanfiction writer you admire, tell them how they inspire you. Ask for advice, don’t be afraid.
Brainstorm ideas with your friends.
Outline stories, leave them sit for a while, then come back to them when inspiration hits.
Write down sentence ideas when the inspiration hits(it happens anywhere), and then sit down later and write it out.
Read your favorite book, if that’s what helps you.
But, please, don’t think the amount of notes your writing gets on Tumblr/any forum you post on, is your worth as a writer.
Nobody can tell you your worth. Nobody, but yourself.

writing fanfic more like:
have I used that word recently *ctrl + f* shit
“are you still working on that fic?” last edited: 24th January 2005 “haha of course”
that feeling when someone comments
planning a fic down to the words you’ll use without anywhere to write it down and getting home and remembering none of it
it’s just a fic no one will care about inaccuracies *spends four hours researching a 2000-word one-shot*
grammar
*sees word in advert* yes that’s a good word I’ll remember that word *never uses word*
my last four fanfics are centred around this character and while it means their characterisation is perfect, people are yelling at me
“oh you write? can you name a character after me” “ummm”
is that a real word *red line appears* well why isn’t it

A few weeks ago I went to the Milwaukee Art Museum with a friend and we got to go into this glass box called The Infinity Chamber. Inside there are mirrors and lights and together they resemble the stars and constellations; outer space. It’s probably one of the coolest things ever. Imagine introducing Henrik to Smosh.
“Hey, what’s Smosh?” You looked at Henrik to see him looking at your notebook, specifically where you had written down what thing you were going to show him and his siblings.
“Oh, I forgot that I had planned to show you them.” You opened up YouTube on his laptop since Finn still had yours. “Basically these two guys just make a whole bunch of humorous videos. My favorites are the Assassin’s Creed ones.”
“Oh, so they’re like the people that we’ve been showing my siblings.”
“In a way, yes.” You shrugged and passed the laptop to him. “Here, watch.”
After one last Smosh video, Henrik was staring at the screen intently. Then, he grabbed your notebook and furiously began writing.
You blinked in confusion. “What are you writing?”
“Ideas.” He paused to grin up at you. “We have to make some videos like this!”
You smiled. “It would be fun.”
His grin grew even wider. “Exactly! Especially since everyone can go all out and use any of their abilities. We could just say everything is special effects.”
“That’s,” Your eyebrows raised in surprise. “That’s perfect actually.”
With an excited shout, Henrik ran while screaming out everyone’s names as loud as possible in order to tell them about his brilliant idea.
