there’s absolutely something to be said about ‘booktok’ books being largely wattpad quality written erotica i’m certainly not reading them however having seen a guy on tiktok make a video like ‘all the women in your life are READING PORN’ about a book he picked up and read in his FEMALE FRIEND’S HOUSE in a tone of scandalised horror and disgust i actually don’t think men should be making those criticisms. he said he picked it up expecting a romance and was horrified it was GOONER SHIT he said specifically like ‘who are you getting your pussy wet FOR??’ in a tone of revulsion. idk man im not sure shes the weird one. i kind of wish you were dead

Magic the Gathering is doing an original outer space magical sci fi setting next and dropped preview art of what APPEARS to be the sickest fucking dragon that will ever exist in media ever again, and I know you're thinking, "nah, it can't be that cut and dry, there's a LOT of raw as hell dragons out there, and I, a more experienced dragon aficionado, already have a counter-example locked and loaded for the contentious comment I expect to leave once this dragon of yours fails to knock my socks off as much as the blorbo in question," but while it is okay to think that, you might actually stop thinking that and instead think the same thing I just said about this dragon once you have looked at it. at the picture of the dragon.

you tell any adult over the age of 50 that you're looking for a job and they're frothing at the mouth to offer insight bc they think your young and/or lazy ass has never even conceived what they're about to tell you. and it's printing your resume onto a very disposable piece of paper and walking into the workplace and handing it to a random employee

Fandom stats: word count on AO3
significanceofmoths asked me if I’d analyzed how fandoms differ in terms of their word counts. I haven’t broken it down by fandom, but I thought I’d do a quick summary of what I know about word count on AO3 in general (at least as of about a year ago).
When I did my initial survey of AO3 in May 2013, here’s what I found about word count:
Simplifying some of these categories:
about 36% of the fanworks on AO3 had <= 1000 words at that time (note that this includes most of the textless fanworks like fanart and podfics).
about 45% had between 1K and 5K words
only about 18% of the fanworks have more than 5K words.
I also looked at single-chapter vs. multi-chapter fics around the same time. Please note: there are way more single chapter fanworks than multi-chapter – somewhere around 85% of fanworks are one chapter. Comparing word count for these two different categories:
While it’s most common for single-chapter fic to have fewer than 1000 words, it’s actually most common for multi-chapter fic to have over 10K words.
That second analysis also shows that the longer the work, the more hits it tends to get. But I haven’t yet dug deeper into this relationship (other than showing that length isn’t the only factor that matters – for instance, rating also affects hits and kudos).

you CANNOT read too much old timey fiction because I was playing Raft with the lads this morning and without a THOUGHT said we could sail over to another island "if the wind would consent to blow" & let me tell you. This did not pass by unremarked.

I love how these are from an Unreality subreddit but to my eye they just read like regular Tumblr shitposts. Did we cross-pollinate or something
