February 23rd 1979 - "English Civil War" is released as a single

Featured on their second album, Give Em Enough Rope , English Civil War is derived from an American Civil War song called When Johnny Comes Marching Home. And has Pressure Drop as a b-side.
The song warns against the rise of far right groups, such as the National Front, which were gaining popularity in Britain at the time.
Joe Strummer said in an interview:
"War is just around the corner. Johnny hasn't got far to march. That's why he's coming by bus or underground"
