Hey! All of your drawings do not need to be completely unique from one another. Do you know how many versions and replicas of his Sunflowers Van Gogh actually did? Just draw that naked guy ten times. Reuse that colour palette. Do that pose again. Follow your heart for real, no one can care as much as you do.

for some reason, "you can just do an art project" unlocked a realization that "you can just make art" wasn't able to access.

like yeah i know i can set aside an afternoon and sketch a still life.

but also i can, like. select a random marine creature from a hat and then research them and then spend a bit of time in the evenings and weekends over the course of a few weeks making a diorama.

or i can make an abstract sculpture out of scrap cardboard and masking tape, and then paper mache over it, and then paint it.

or i can draw something with markers and color it in with crayons.

i dunno why it took me so long to realize that, in the same way that i can revisit the games and hobbies that i enjoyed as a kid, and i can orchestrate "presentation parties" so my friends and i can flex our slideshow animation skills, i can also Make Art, Grade School Style (and not just Grownup Art/School Style)

I've been loving all of these en plen aire paintings. It was a struggle but I got there in the end!

I also finally figured out how to get black with my limited kit which I was really excited about. Before it kept pulling way too red but I have definitely fixed it now

The folly of painting outside: knocking over your paints which you honestly didn't secure very well into the dirt when they are really tacky bc you also didn't dry them very well and now your blue has rocks in it

Had breakfast at a cafe with a gorgeous view and decided to try my hand at painting en plen aire

Some people came up while I was working on it and complimented my art, it was kind of surreal

Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.

People often say to me: “You draw like some kind of inhuman machine.  If I eat your brain, will I gain your power?”  The answer is yes, but there is another way. The key to precise drawing is building up muscle memory so that your arm/hand/fingers do the things you want them to do when you want them to do them.  Teaching yourself to draw a straight line or to make sweet curves is just a matter of practice and there are some exercises you can do to help improve. If you’re going to be doodling in class or during meetings anyway, why not put that time to good use?

A lot of these style of spam posts also say that they are prompting art of children of different nationalities (typically Ukranian, Japanese, or Nigerian) which is extra weird and uncomfortable

The amount is also getting way fucking worse and I swear I can just report a string of 10 posts in a row between seeing actual art posted by real people

I went into the watercolor tag because I like to scroll through and reblog the gorgeous art posted there and holy fucking shit was it botted to hell and back with fucking AI image generator spam accounts. I reported dozens of them but they all had basically the same name and then a number at the end and there were hundreds of them and I guarantee that they are flooding other art tags and it is just so frustrating because I go on Tumblr and into art tags to engage with artists, not with people who can't even be arsed to pick up a pen or pencil

There is a part of me that wonders if Tumblr is going to get made at me for reporting so many things bc I'm reporting dozens of posts at a time

Also I finally accidentally clicked on one of the links bc my hands suck and the prompt that was loaded in was 100% an erotic fantasy and the image generated had nothing to do with the image that they claimed wad being prompted (this was specifically one of the spam accounts that is literally just key smash as a username)
