i think maybe a better word for ai-generated art than “plagiarism” is just straight-up “fraud”. because calling it plagiarism allows ai apologists to split hairs and hem and haw about “oh but what is plagiarism REALLY? doesn’t EVERYBODY create art by cobbling together ideas from a million different places??” and admittedly trying to legislate things based on copyright and ownership of ideas has the potential to lead to some real bad places for transformative works like fanfic and stuff.

but the thing is, when you post ai stuff like it’s art you created, even if the algorithm is just “taking inspiration” from other works in ethical ways like a human does (it’s not), it’s still not YOU that created it. it’s the hyped-up autocomplete software that made it for you based on a question you asked. i don’t care how specific the question was, you did not write that book or paint that painting or whatever. you’re trying to profit off work that you didn’t create, and make it look like you have a skillset you don’t have. that’s fraud. and whether it’s for money or just internet attention i think it’s scummy as hell and you should be ashamed of yourself.

seriously, think to yourself about why everybody hates ai art. it’s not because artists are “jealous” of you for being able to hit refresh until a gross shiny anime girl shows up. it’s because art is about human connection. nobody wants to look at art that nobody made because the act of MAKING it is the POINT. even if your plastic robot content is somehow good (it’s not), it’s a million times more shameful and disgusting than the worst, ugliest art a human being ever made with their own hands.

Daily Check in 08/03/2025 Been a full week of calls now. Hope you all are keeping at it too! Visa was it's usual spicy self, but I managed to keep them on the line for a while trying to get some plight clarification which they ultimately did not provide. PayPal was VERY SPICY with me today. The first guy I got hung up on me when I refused to tell them my paypal account because I was calling about a policy affecting a lot of accounts. I ended up calling back because I really seemed to under his skin, and the lady I as my second rep ended actually issuing a complaint ticket to her supervisor about my questions for the first time with PayPal. So now that I know that's possible, I'm definitely making that my goal with them. Stripe still won't pick up the phone. MasterCard was a definitely the most interesting experience today. I went into all my calls this time armed with some new information about which MasterCard Rule was the supposed reason for this mess, which is 5.12.7 btw, you can find out more in this great article.

But anyway, when I called MasterCard asking for clarification about what was "damaging the goodwill of the Corporation" they guy I was talking to started saying that the ACTUAL reason for the rule was because people's identities were getting stolen. Which I know was just a thing he completely pulled out his ass, because when I asked to talk to his supervisor the supervisor also had no idea

what on earth he was talking about. This started the conversation very apologetic towards me, and he ended up writing another complain ticket for me scientifically requesting clarification on what was "damaging the goodwill" of the company. MasterCard is clearly very tired and the supervisors are getting very good a writing these tickets, so come with specific requests for what we want when you talk to them so they can include them in the tickets.

We are making progress, but we can't relax yet! Make your calls and writer you letters! We're gaining ground, but haven't won yet!
