I have a love-hate relationship with being trans. I love that I'm sure of my identity, I love that I'm part of such an amazing community, and that I can understand the nuances of gender a little more than most people, but at the same time life is SO FREAKING DIFFICULT.
What do you mean I'm so happy and outgoing in college because I'm a guy to everyone around me and everyone calls me by my preferred name but then when I go home to visit, I'm stabbed 28 times with my legal, dead name and my parents and sisters know nothing about what's essentially my secret identity. It almost feels stupid, what am I, spiderman??
That's honestly what I mean when I tell people "I wish I was born a boy." It's not that I don't think I'm a real guy---I AM a real guy, my transness makes me different but not lesser. But, sometimes I think, wouldn't life be so much easier? Would I think about dying and being reborn as often as I do?
Would I have been happy?
I don't know. I really don't know.
