List of common themes & tropes in dreamcore & weirdcore that I've noticed. Beware, this is long!

-Eye imagery

   ↪ You’re being watched!!! Get perceived, idiot!!!!

   ↪ (Things that should not be near eyes, near eyes. I saw someone stick a crayon into their eye. eugh)

↪ A bit overused at this point... i do love me some eyes tho

-Improper lighting

   ↪ As in, both weird shading issues (floor is bright, the sky is dark), and poor lighting conditions.

-shadow figures

-Flowers and grass where glowers and grass should not be.

-Water where water should not be (often clean)

-ominous comments with no context

  ↪Often questions or warnings, in second person

  ↪Sometimes comforting? (You’re safe here, you can rest, it WILL get better etc.), sometimes mildly threatening

- Angels or angelic imagery

  ↪Wings, baby! wings on everything.

-generally things in places where they should not be

  ↪ Nature in urban settings (busses, train stations, etc) Or manmade things in natural settings (washing machines, computers, carpets)

-too many of one thing which there is usually only one of. (abundance of clocks (A LOT OF CLOCKS) 

-Balloons in dark areas or near dark areas

-Objects replacing other objects (the sun = peppermint candy, lightbulb an error message)

-computer themes! (error messages, bluescreens, you might be able to put improper lighting in this category?)

-Places that are usually filled with people being empty

-Random black voids (maybe in computer themes too)

-Generally lots of ‘something is wrong here’ themes

   ↪You aren’t supposed to be here, you’ve gone too far, you’re not from here, wake tf up

-Colourful or rainbow colour scheme, often hypersaturated or desaturated.

-FRISK UNDERTALE?!??!?!!! (why are they in so many images??)

-Object heads, how did I forget jobject heads?

-Unusual anatomy or proportions (big ass hands)

   ↪too many fingers, or hands, or arms, you get the deal

-Sky in places where sky should not be

   ↪Clouds too

-Mushroom imagery too? 

   ↪Usually paired with eyes, only toadstools for some reason.

-Uncommon, but i like it: Spider & spiderweb imagery

-Staircases

-Smiley faces 

   ↪Other emojis too, but less so.

   ↪Emoticons too!! I love emoticons.

-Cramped spaces.

-Body parts?

   ↪Mouths, Teeth, Unidentified raw meat (beef usually…???) (eyes are so common they’re their own category)

-Ferrots (More common than you think.)

-Static!! 

-Bad lighting.

-Stars & sparkles

-Traffic cones?

-Optical illusions

-Spirals

-normal things being turned wavy.

-Weird skies. (Static, error screens, other random pictures? Roblox-esque ngl)

-Video game-esque design choices

   ↪Dialogue boxes, choice buttons

-Trypophobia. Lotsa holes.

-It isn’t supposed to be comforting.

-Its surrealism. What were you expecting?

All in all, the most common themes are:

Being trapped, or being about to be trapped (Ex. Wake up before it's too late, There is no turning back, etc.)

Being in places you should not be (Ex. Turn back, you're not supposed to be here), Which also extends to OTHER things being in places they should not be.

And being watched and or known intimately by things you may or may not be aware of. (All that eye imagery, 'smile for the camera'-esque prompts, cameras themselves too, people or things knowing you when you do not know them.)

Introduction - I swear this is weirdcore related. Hii!!! I'm Study or Core, I'm here to poorly analyze images and attempt to work on a dreamcore-inspired project. As of now I plan for it to be one of those interactive youtube videos though i might make it a visual novel if I take the time to figure out any software.... idk More about me: I'm... a person. they/them. I like drawing, sometimes. I say wahoo unironically along with yippee and various other exclamations because at some point i copied Mario for some reason and it just spiralled from there. I like all bugs, cockroaches and stuff included, they are all very cute. I am also very and irrationally scared of blackholes. Yep, those are my ONLY defining traits :) very interesting I know.

More about the project: ... god idk. Just wanted to make silly characters and a silly world. I do want to lean into the actual aesthetic more than "EYES EVERYWHERE" and object heads, though. Not that theres anything wrong with that, I love me some eye imagery, but its a bit over used at this point yk. I'll update this when I get a solid idea of what I want to do, but for now! Suggestions are welcome. I'd like to mention, I'm also including weirdcore in this blog, because at this point dreamcore and weirdcore are used interchangeably. There isn't much of a difference in their core traits anymore. I'd love to rant about this, but on a different post. eventually.

Actual content on this blog: Mainly analysis of images and the aesthetic, updates on character designs and concepts, and rants about different topics vaguely relating to dreamcore like... liminal spaces! You guys still like those, right? Totally haven't completely forgotten the original meaning of 'liminal' and are just using it as a blanket term for backrooms-esque areas, right? haha. sorry that was rude.
