As I was conducting the community walk, I tried to look for places or objects that may be hazardous, however, to my surprise, there are not many hazards that could be found. The village is very serene and peaceful and almost everyone is inside their homes, as much as I wanted to get in touch with my neighbors and other citizens, there was barely anyone outside at all, and the neighborhood only had a few cars passing by. Nevertheless, this made it easier for me to focus on my environment as I carefully observe my surroundings.

As I roam around, I saw that there were plenty of warning signs on places that may impose danger. Moreover, if there is something that really got stuck on my mind, it is the fact that the entire community is really clean. Attached below is a picture that shows that there are designated drums that serve as trash bins around the community to prevent any form of pollution. I have noticed that there is also a river beside it and the water is flowing freely and there aren’t any trash present which is a sign of how much care and maintenance are present around the community.

With that, I really enjoyed this activity and it made me realize the importance of being aware and active in the community. I have also learned to be careful with my surroundings and I have learned that it is important to always stay safe wherever we are. After doing the community walk, and after interviewing one of the barangay officials, I was able to realize how everyone should be an active agent for change and development even in their local community. This activity inspired me to become a better citizen by not only relying on the people in charge but also taking part in contributing to the common good.

BDRRM KWENTUHAN
P A R T 1
Going out to keep in touch with the things that are happening in my community by having a talk with a barangay official is something I would have never thought of doing. I have always been so busy doing other things that I sometimes do not have enough time to stop and be concerned about the state of my environment. Especially now that there are a lot of requirements in school, and there are a lot of tasks handed down to me, I am really grateful to have an opportunity like this as an avenue to become knowledgeable and more aware of what is happening in my own community. A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting with Mr. Arcadio Castro, the local barangay official of Barangay Lambakin, Marilao, Bulacan.

Before I walked around the streets of Lambakin, I asked him a couple of questions regarding the current situation of the community. I found out that they conduct DRRM seminars in different schools in order to raise awareness about the possible disasters that could come and also to educate and prepare them on what to do in times of calamities and natural disasters. According to Mr. Arcadio Castro, conducting such seminars are important in order to prevent any accidents and casualties in the future, and this is one of their strategies that would ensure the safety of the citizens. I also asked if there are any problems or places in the community that could possibly be hazards that may bring harm to the community in times of disasters, however, he said that they always roam around to check for such hazards, and fix them immediately if ever there was one. He also mentioned that the barangay officials go around the community to spread out warnings and updates whenever there is an impending typhoon, that way, the citizens would all be informed from time to time.
