A serious (and seemingly obvious) problem with the implementation of the Online Safety Act is that it requires malicious actors to not exist.
Since the UK govenment in any form hates paying for things, especially things required for their goals, the current situation is that websites have to work out to do age verification themselves. There is no government-approved or provided service for this - it's a free-for-all of third-party verification providers.
Now, some people are pointing out that depending on how these companies handle the data given to them to perform verification, it's possible this data could be stolen or leaked. This is a worrying possibility. This danger is primarily one of passive incompetence, although if your driver's licence gets leaked, you won't be happy either way.
But passive incompetence probably isn't going to hurt anyone before active malice does.
Normalising showing your face or identity documents to random websites is an incredibly stupid thing to do. You know who benefits from this? Actual criminals! Phishing attacks continue to be successful because people will put their banking details into websites that are very much not their banks. And while random websites asking for your banking details is suspicious, the OSA makes it so that random websites asking for your driver's license or passport or other such things will now be expected.
Meaning an enterprising criminal can set up a website, stick a fake age verification pop-up on it, and harvest a whole bunch of things that come in useful for committing identity theft. Or blackmail perhaps.
The overall point here is that in this respect, the Online Safety Act is going to make the internet more dangerous, in a way that should be obvious if you actually think about the potential negative consequences.

thanks dawg
honestly my blog an art blog mainly and out of my 170 posts I only have three posts about asexuality so that only makes it weirder. Unless they’re stalking me in the lgbtq communities I’m in lol
Asexual = mentally ill attention seeker
….
I have no words to respond to this, so I’ll just let the context speak for itself

Rue is not very concerned about her health. She eats just enough food and sleeps just as much she needs to function at all and not much more. She has some medical knowledge which she thinks justifies her not getting the medical care she needs from other people when she gets injured. And she also regularly throws herself in extreme physical danger due to the current circumstances of her life
Rosemary is pretty self-destructive; chronically sleep deprived, dehydrated, not eating enough, and smoking as a teenager. She’s very, very reckless about safety and just in general. She has a high pain tolerance and often ignores injuries unless they impede her in some immediate way
of course, this is before they gained the ability to magically regenerate from injuries and heal quickly
how concerned is your oc about their health? do they need to get almost everything checked out by a professional or are they the type to have their arm ripped off and go "I'm sure it's fine"?

IDK CAN I???
alright tell me about your webcomic
Alright, so my webcomic (which I don't have a name for yet) follows Rosemary Maxwell, a teenage girl who has just accepted an offer made by a mysterious book to come to a different dimension/world in exchange for magical powers. This other dimension, Iuxta, is being much different from her expectations and is the midst of political tensions and under very oppressive rule. Rosemary is very out of her depth and gets in trouble, and though she quickly adapts and finds allies there, she ends up joining an extremist rebel group that wants to use her powers for their cause.
Personality wise, Rosemary has never been a saint. At the beginning of the story, she's moody, impulsive, and doesn't really care for anyone but herself, but she did have some standards and weak morals. This... changes during the course of the story, as she's surrounded by bad influences and her magic and circumstances lets her escape most consequences for her actions.
Fast forward five years and the rebel group is engaged in a civil war with the government of Iuxta. Rosemary is very involved in this and due to her rare magic, her and several others in the group who also have magic are some of the most influential people in the world
**
This is where the story starts, then after the first part, it flashes back to the past and moves chronologically from there.
I haven't explained the other main character, Rue, even though she has a chokehold on the story, but she's like a walking spoiler and has a more complicated relationship to the world and Rosemary than I care to elaborate here. If you want me to tell you about her let me know. :]
I only have a detailed outline and character designs done for a few chapters of the story; the rest of the lore is stored in a gigantic rambling google doc. I started working on this when i was *twelve* and it's undergone three major rewrites within the premise. It's probably overambitious for a project, but I've gotten too attached to the characters and lore to let it go.
The first part will probably be done in a year or two, the whole project who knows how long.
Sorry if i didn't explain this well. Feel free to ask follow-up questions :)

Oh, and Iuxta is somewhat stuck in the equivalent of the late 1800s to early 1900s, while Rosemary in the human world came from 2009 (boo! millennial >:(), so that makes designing characters fun. early 1900s fashion is so interesting
Here's a bit of art of the characters (img 1 is Rosemary, img 2 is Rue)

wow. That sounds so interesting and complex and I love the names. I’ll definitely read it when you’re done. 😆
what's your webcomic about? Also, I see you like death note?
hi yes i do like death note So! My webcomic, The Sins We Can't Erase, is about two transgender men, Malcolm Griggs and Martin Jones, who work for a demon-Elder God-thingy called A'kzth the World Eater (they work for xem because they were compliant in xir last host's death), banishing other supernatural entities. They're tasked by A'kzth to hunt down a demon known as S'zjr, to prevent her from summoning the Big Bad, known as Darling. There's like a whole thing where this depressed college student is dating Darling/might BE Darling (unclear), and Malcolm's roommate Snowflake Nutmeg (Snow/Snowie) gets possessed by A'kzth, also Martin throws hands with his twin brother in a Denny's parking lot at some point but thats later in the story, I'm currently a quarter done with the first chapter (i have all the sketches done i just need to color it) and im hoping to have it out by late August/early September
