The story goes that when the 4th dynasty of celestial kindness fell, the sagi factory slaves became roving revolutionaries. When the word of the emperor's death came, they gutted their shop fabricators, turning them into the weapon now known as the flash-cutter. This is likely historical exaggeration, but it highlights the cultural importance of the weapon, and the pride with which they are carried.

As a weapon, the flash-cutter is capable of projecting an extraordinarily high-energy cutting edge, but only for a fraction of a fraction of a second, at which point it must be sheathed to recharge. They are quite difficult to use, requiring dedicated practice and nigh-superhuman dexterity.

However, Sagi shop slaves were often augmented for factory work. The first sword saints of the 4th civil war were those that repurposed their implants for war.

Autokata is a sword art developed by and for the artificially augmented. It strives for a perfect harmony between flesh and machine, combining the mechanical perfection of combat augments with the decision making wisdom of the learned flesh. It's practicioners actively train to resist prosthetic shock, as many advanced autokata techniques require rapid connection and disconnection of synthetic nerves and sensory organs.

It's foundational technique, "Driving Wedge", harkens back to the simple wood-splitting wedge, which autokata masters believe to be the first machine, and thus the first union of flesh and mechanics.

As such, Driving Wedge is built upon the most basic firmware command of all combat augments. The simple act of drawing one's weapon. Done, in this case, with superhuman speed.
