heck yeah tag me in anything!
as i’ve said,
anyone can do anything and if they say it’s platonic, then it is.
a relationship is defined by the people in it, not outsiders with bias
Tumblr media
I haven’t platonicposted in a while

yes! there is almost always an explanation. a relationship is defined by the people in it! not by some random tumblr users
(also it’s totally cool to tag me, keep doing it if you want)
every time you say there 'is no platonic explanation' for two characters interacting in any way, you owe every aro and ace person on the planet 200 dollars

Yes, actually! There is no romantic relationship implied here.
“You are close enough to count” (as perfect)
This just shows that person B looks up to the first person and sees them as near perfect. There’s nothing inherently romantic about that.
Thank you so much for the tag!
“we can’t all be perfect”
“you are close enough to count”
like PLEASE?????? there is NO explanation for this

Friends can do whatever they want. If you think friends can’t look at each other or touch without it being romantic, you are a coward and a fool.
shipping characters who are just friends in canon is more than okay but what’s annoying is when people take screenshots of them touching and say “friends don’t do that!”. i hate to break it to you but friends do hug and hold hands and cuddle. saying ‘friends don’t do that’ is reenforcing the idea that physical touch is reserved for lovers

There is always a platonic explanation. If you both say it’s platonic, then it is. Love your friends.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
I fell asleep in my friends' arms. It was eleven at night, we were tired, curled up in a small pile on my tiny bed. I had my head buried in my roommate's side, and one of my closest friend's hand on my shoulder, steadying me. It was quiet and nothingness and peace and their heartbeats in my ears, my hands in their hair.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
We pack four people to that little bed, you know. Laps used as footrests, collarbones as pillows, little lights like moonlight in rustic yellow bathed on their faces. The TV plays an anime. The words are repeated by my dear friend on my shoulder, curled close. My legs are asleep; my roommate may be, too.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
The cat curls on top of our criss cross mess of legs and arms and heads on chests to absorb the warmth of us all. She purrs in contented peace. When my roommate and I are left alone in the quiet, she cries, and watches the door for our friends' return.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
I will never kiss them but the top of their heads. I will never touch but the warmth of their arms. I will never take more than what's freely given, and in return I put my glasses on the bedside table fashioned from a guitar amp, and when I lean into their sides, I pick up my vulnerability and place it in their capable, tender hands.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
I sing for them. I cry for them. I work and I run and I withstand the worst of the world for them, because some days I get to cradle their forehead on my shoulder and some days I get to see their shining eyes.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
Maybe to you. But look beyond explanation. I love them. With my heart in my unsteady hands, with my nose pressed to the side of their head, with the buzzing in my feet and the warmth all around Iike the sunset pushing into the window.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
Is it enough to say I love them? With no strings attached? With reckless abandon and utter devotion and freedom and kindness and fear?
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
I cannot explain it any clearer. I love my friends. There is no more to say.

I hope this isn't too much but pls tell me there's a platonic reason for this chapter😭😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My heart was shattered when I read this because I genuinely headcannoned kou as aro and absolutely loved his friendship with mitsuba since they seemed to really care about each other. But this chapter genuinely made me start to think they might be a cannon ship
Mitsuba Kou
Tumblr media
Don't laugh but I litterally cried after this chapter because of how romantic it seemed. Pleaseeee give me a platonic explanation 😭🙏🙏
Toilet bound hanako kun: chapters 98-100
oh i’ve read tbhk haha anyway here i’ll be all proper about my response
You can believe whatever you like. something being canon doesn’t mean you have to agree. just look at the marauders fandom. I do know that it would always be amazing to have it be canon and get that representation (TRUST ME).
Alright I have some context for this so here my biased view: There is a lot of implication about their relationship, more so than other “just friends” characters. Those two are parallels to the main (canon) ship. BUT this does not mean they are romantic. I personally believe they are more qpr but i will provide evidence for just platonic and qpr
Now i’ll give my unbiased opinion
Signs that could be interpreted as romantic and why they are wrong:
Quotes
“You’d get lonely without me” idk about all those allo people but i’d be REALLY lonely without my friends.
“you’d be sorry to see me go, just like you would for anyone else”
i mean i don’t want my friends to die? or anyone really
‘blah blah blah i don’t want anyone else to kill me thats why i came to you blah blah’ (i didn’t feel like writing it all out)
thats just fair. wouldn’t you prefer someone you know to take you out if necessary? then you can be in complete control of the situation.
then Kou offers to go to the school festival together. This is (i think) him trying to get Mitsuba to keep living (un-deading?) and at least be shown some more good in the world. TRYING TO SAVE SOMEONES LIFE IS NOT INHERENTLY ROMANTIC
then there is some playful banter - again not inherently romantic.
actions
Kou cries. yeah well that’s a fair reaction to your close friend saying they want to die
lots of closeness and contact. That doesn’t mean a whole lot on its own, but also doesn’t imply any specific kind of love (platonic, familial, ect)
the little smile at the end. Mitsuba is being shown how much Kou cares for him. In ANY context i’m fairly sure they would smile.
IN CONCLUSION,
There is nothing outright stating romance. there’s no confession, no “god hes hot”, nothing. It only seems romantic because some writers (ESPECIALLY in manga) don’t know how to write a proper friendship, and two people even caring about each other is seen as romantic.
I didnt spend too long on this (obviously i spent some time) so I could have probably improved the phrasing
anyway this was fun to do! anyone else dont be shy about sending in something similar

Note
this? (too lazy to find original)
Tumblr media
They are simply holding hands, which friends do. the background might suggest romance in certain contexts like two characters about to kiss or a meet cute, however i don’t believe it has to imply romance here.
also thank you so much for the ask!!!!

there are NO romantic connotations here! there is a threat of death which is sometimes romanticised (for some reason)
so yes, there is a platonic explanation
i summon thee, gimmick blogs, to bring me the fruits of your gimmick. failure to do so will result in death.
