okay but the real comedy of 1D’s rise in america is how the label tried so hard to package them for the conservative teen girl market. like “these british boys are SAFE. they date girls. they wear blazers. they smile a lot. moms will love them. daughters will love them. no gay stuff here, folks.”

they tried to closet the queer and sell the clean-cut. all to make them palatable for midwestern walmart aisles.

and then—and then—they wrote the gayest songs known to man. like “i can’t love you in the light so i’ll suffer in the dark” levels of gay. they slapped the word ���girl” in there like it was a get-out-of-closet-free card and called it a day. whole albums that are just “everyone else thinks it’s wrong but i don’t care” and “this love is forbidden but i’d burn the world for it.” sir. what.

like imagine trying to sell your product to traditional families and instead creating a generation of gay girls who heard "they don't know about the things we do" and went “wait. oh.”

congratulations. your conservative brand campaign just made the soundtrack to thousands of sexual awakenings.

the corrupt industry works hard but gay subtext works harder.

ONE DIRECTION have rejected an offer to reunite at the Brit Awards and pay tribute to late bandmate Liam Payne.

I can reveal that Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were formally approached by the Brits about appearing at the event on March 1.

However, all four members decided against the idea and it is looking increasingly unlikely they will attend London’s O2 Arena for the biggest night in British music.

It is felt that a reunion by the boys may distract from remembering Liam himself.

As the summer goes on, the adventures and day to day happenings allow Harry and Louis to spend a lot more time together than either of them ever anticipated and Louis finds it more difficult to keep his growing feelings in check than he ever thought it would be. After all, there wasn't a chance that Harry would ever be interested in Louis... right?

My cousin asked me about Liam this weekend, and all I could talk about was how the fandom has somehow come back together in the wake of his death.

She did not understand. She didn’t get the comfort baked into seeing old usernames and favorite fic writers, an online version of the way familiar faces you haven’t thought of in ages come to a funeral, and you suddenly realize the depth of their indelible mark on your life — how you wouldn’t be who you are today, personally, emotionally, creatively, without these names, these stories, these references, these inside jokes; all weighty things that hold a level of nostalgia you could never possibly explain.

Grieving with a community of intimate strangers is… odd, and yet, so, so special. It is perfectly consistent with what fandom is like, both in good and bad times: a lifeline, invisible and unspoken to many but the lucky, lucky few.
